I love how this video acknowledged that viv isnt god, and how so many people will try to claim hes not confirmed aro or how "its a spectrum" to try and make their ships fit cannon, when they should just accept cannon and then do what THEY want in fannon (this also fucks up tagging and drives me insane). At the same time, though, there is so much unnecessary hate towards Alastor shippers when the whole point of fannon content in the first place is to alter cannon into something new and many aroace people ship him in fannon themselves (myself included). Trying to prevent people from shipping him will never work and only makes people resent the character for being ace/aroace, but acknowledging what is cannon is definitely very important to me, and while I'd like more ace/aroace Alastor content, people should be able to make what they want without getting hate for something they went out of their way to make and share

Even if Gaster himself was not directly related to them or from the Delta Ruin Alternate timeline, it certainly hints that Sans and Papyrus may have been. Further, if he accidentally caused them to cross over, he may ahve worked harder to bridge the portal since they inferedlt came from the timeline where humans/monsters coexisted peacefully to free eveyone in the UT timeline or at least send them home. If you have ever read Marvel Zombies, it has a similar feel to how Tony Stark, Mr. Fantastic and Reed Richards atte.pt4d to build iterdimentional transport devices to escape from the Zombie plague to a reality where it didnt take place..or rick and morty..of course, Reed Richards surprises no one in revealing himself to be a GIANT FUCKING DICKand ruin all that except for Doom who accidentally semds Ashly Willaims from yhw Evil Dead franchise to a werewolf infested Marvel alternate reality..might have gotten derialed there by convoulted BS comic book plot but the point is that there are hints Sans and Papyrus being in the UT timelines was not natural and may have to do with Gasters experiments trying to open a path to the DR timeline. Gaster's theme is VERY close to the backbeat of the water stages in Donkey Kong country. Not surprising as Toby is clearly a fan of old school Nintendo and video games as a whole. Once Upin a Time shares some bars with Zelda songs, the cutscene of Sans/Papyrus riding on a street is a clear omage to parts from the Metal Slug franchise complete with near identicle assets/animation patters and there are a lot more. It can make things a little more tricky to connect these things to others in in game lore when he loves to sprinkle these refrence easter eggs so liberally. Is it connected to Gaster because the associated music shares a part resembling gastors theme or because both were inspired by the same Donkey Kong level music? I had to note that i adore the Sans/Papyrus scene as they are some of my favorite characters and I LOVE Metal Slug. It is one of my favorite game franchises ever and gets the short end of the stick when it clmes to credit for being an amazing classic game franchise. With the goofy surface level theming, characterization and events can be with SERIOUSLY dark overtones, I can easily see Toby gaining inspiration for his games from that franchise. We are talking a series with grey penis jellyfish martians, a fiscount Mr. T. parody who keeps mysteriously showing up despite ebing killed more and more brutally every game and a power-up that is litterally just you getting fat from eating a certian number of food themed point pick-ups in a limited time. Also, Yetis, discount Xenomorphs, mummies and monkeys with rayguns. Also blood vomiting zombies, body disolving acid grubs, paracitic plant spores and a demon god so massive you can only see his entire sprite in lightning flash silhuette from distance attacks who also has a cosmic skull in his chest, glowing red eyes, a giant scythe that sparks blue fire balls size of your head when it strikes stone and is so powerful you cant actually kill or greiviously harm it..just deter it from detroying the world at this time.

One can adore a character or person, consider them gorgeous and attractive, and simultaneously respect their boundaries. It's certainly one thing to explore AUs of Alastor in fanfics (can respect that, within reason)...buuuuut, part of what I appreciate about him is that he's this dapper, charismatic and badass demon, who don't need no romance or sexuality! Would I classify him as sexy? In what reality would my crazy, pan goblin arse **NOT** ??? 😆 Am I gonna whip up fanfics involving AUs of Al? Naaaah, I got other blorbos with indeterminate sexualities to explore that crazy stuff with. I leave those AUs to everyone else that want to explore those, because I'm more than happy to witness the radio demon enjoying what he does best; THAT is the sexiest bit! Sometimes it's just a breath of fresh air to see characters like Alastor just doing their thing, not needing sex and romance to be fabulous and captivating figures in the story. He's just lovely to watch as he goes about being the demon that he is; no shipping required! 😆 ADDENDUM: I am also ALL for the headcanon of Jessica Rabbit as ace! I even love the meme of a diagram showing ace qualities shared between her, the Ineffable Husbands of Good Omens, and Barbie. I ship quite a few characters in different fandoms, but I also love exploring other relation dynamics beyond romance and sexualities; there aren't enough fanfics out there exploring members of Found Families that bond like siblings, parent-and-child dynamics (Arcane's Silco and Jinx), etc. And, in equal measure, I do enjoy the occasional angsty conflicts between characters that cannot find reconciliation, leading to multiple battles and penultimate showdowns. I say have with it let the fans go crazy . Myself like the idea of Alastor trying to have a relationship, but feels like he hasn't found the right girl yet . I say girl because back in the day having opposites sex Romantic couple was taboo. We also know he dosnt mind talking to people, so we know his not shy. Hey. Aro-ace here. I don't ship Alastor with anyone, he's not even part of my fave characters. That said, just let ppl have fun with their ships and drawings, it's not hurting anyone, Alastor is still canonically Aroace, and we have the rep we wanted. Yes, ppl using "it's a spectrum" to ship him are stupid. They could just say "well in this setting he isn't", because that's what headcanons are here for. Making cishet characters queer is one of the most popular things on AO3, and changing the flavour of queerness is okay imo. Hell, they could even make him straight I wouldn't care. The fandom is here to explore possibilities and alternate universes. Maybe in an alternate universe, Alastor isn't aroace, and guess what? Even if this alternate universe is popular, at the end of the day, in the show, Alastor is aroace. So pls just let ppl have fun and use stupid excuses. They just draw character who don't exist for fun. If it doesn't fit into your definition of the character, just let go and block the tag.

Making a seperate comment because it‘s a seperate point but: I think a lot of the fighting (that I have run into) also stems from people going around speaking in absolutes like „Alastor is ACE/AROACE, he *cant* have a relationship“, rather than basing it on Alastor‘s characterization in the show. That‘s where a lot of people will start feeling erased because it remains a spectrum, and that is what sparks a lot of the comment debates where the spectrum argument gets brought up. It‘s less about *Alastor* being in a relationship and more the fact that Ace people can absolutely still have relationships (or even sex), and that Queerplats exist.

I really appreciate this take on it! There‘s something I‘d like to add: I think because there isn‘t much ace, aro or aroace representation, when there is any everyone on the spectrum tends to jump on it, which doesn’t the conflict created by people ignoring the sexuality alltogether. You kind of touched on it in the video with people using Alastor to explore their own sexualities, or use Fanworks to create their own representation, but because it‘s such a big spectrum those works clash a lot. And as you said, that would be fine if everyone was aware of the nuances of asexuality and aromanticism, we could all just go about our day and avoid the content we don‘t like. But 1)the majority of people not on the spectrum or close to people on the spectrum see the multitude of works and then get confused, building assumptions about what asexuality and aromanticism is based of fanworks and then, often in an attempt to „stop erasure“ start fighting about it. 2), When there is so little representation, sometimes any interpretation that doesn’t fit your own experience can feel like somebody trying to erase you. I‘ve seen people who are on the spectrums fighting each other over Alastor representations because it doesn‘t fit with their own experience. I think it‘s just hard when the spectrum is so wide that experiences can completely contradict each other and representing one might feel like it somewhat erases the other. In an ideal world, we would all just co-exit, but I‘ll be the first to admit that I felt erased when people started being so insistent Alastor couldn‘t be in any form of relationship because of his sexuality, and then started my spectrum counter argument which might have accidentally talked over the people who did feel represented by that take (I‘m trying to be more mindful about it but we‘re all human and just trying to have fun with our fiction, we‘ll make mistakes). When that argument gets tangled with the people just ignoring the representation alltogether, it turns into the mess we now have…

I don’t understand shipping culture at all. I get that people like fantasizing but I want no part of it. It just makes me uncomfortable. I am on the ace aro spectrum so I guess it makes since. That being said I’m not fully ace and aro and my friend who is fully ace, loves to read ships that are very graphic. I do find it funny that she reads mostly gay ships while being romantically a lesbian. I don’t think many would understand my sexuality so I just say I’m straight, it’s easier. I find it very hard to have romantic attraction and even harder to have sexual attraction. In fact the idea of sex disgusted me until I found one man who I do have sexual attraction to. I’ve seen asked before who my celebrity crush or cartoon crush is. I don’t have one and never have. I related to Data from Star Trek The Next Generation a lot as a kid because he was odd. He thought logically and wanted to understand others. He had one romanic encounter and was loyal to her even after her death. It became an important detail when he had to prove that he is alive in a different since of the world.

I ship quite a few characters in different fandoms, but I also love exploring other relation dynamics beyond romance and sexualities; there aren't enough fanfics out there exploring members of Found Families that bond like siblings, parent-and-child dynamics (Arcane's Silco and Jinx), etc. And, in equal measure, I do enjoy the occasional angsty conflicts between characters that cannot find reconciliation, leading to multiple battles and penultimate showdowns. I don't give him sexualities in my AU- I understand LGBTQIA+ probably just as much as Alastor does, and whenever somebody asks me his sexuality in my (just a fun thing to think about) ship dynamics, I honestly just say- "Giving Alastor a sexuality is like giving a sexuality to a nine year old" Cuz he has literally no idea (neither do I) what it is.
Hey. Aro-ace here. I don't ship Alastor with anyone, he's not even part of my fave characters. That said, just let ppl have fun with their ships and drawings, it's not hurting anyone, Alastor is still canonically Aroace, and we have the rep we wanted. Yes, ppl using "it's a spectrum" to ship him are stupid. They could just say "well in this setting he isn't", because that's what headcanons are here for. Making cishet characters queer is one of the most popular things on AO3, and changing the flavour of queerness is okay imo. Hell, they could even make him straight I wouldn't care. The fandom is here to explore possibilities and alternate universes. Maybe in an alternate universe, Alastor isn't aroace, and guess what? Even if this alternate universe is popular, at the end of the day, in the show, Alastor is aroace. So pls just let ppl have fun and use stupid excuses. They just draw character who don't exist for fun. If it doesn't fit into your definition of the character, just let go and block the tag.
Making a seperate comment because it‘s a seperate point but: I think a lot of the fighting (that I have run into) also stems from people going around speaking in absolutes like „Alastor is ACE/AROACE, he *cant* have a relationship“, rather than basing it on Alastor‘s characterization in the show. That‘s where a lot of people will start feeling erased because it remains a spectrum, and that is what sparks a lot of the comment debates where the spectrum argument gets brought up. It‘s less about *Alastor* being in a relationship and more the fact that Ace people can absolutely still have relationships (or even sex), and that Queerplats exist.
I really appreciate this take on it! There‘s something I‘d like to add: I think because there isn‘t much ace, aro or aroace representation, when there is any everyone on the spectrum tends to jump on it, which doesn’t the conflict created by people ignoring the sexuality alltogether. You kind of touched on it in the video with people using Alastor to explore their own sexualities, or use Fanworks to create their own representation, but because it‘s such a big spectrum those works clash a lot. And as you said, that would be fine if everyone was aware of the nuances of asexuality and aromanticism, we could all just go about our day and avoid the content we don‘t like. But 1)the majority of people not on the spectrum or close to people on the spectrum see the multitude of works and then get confused, building assumptions about what asexuality and aromanticism is based of fanworks and then, often in an attempt to „stop erasure“ start fighting about it. 2), When there is so little representation, sometimes any interpretation that doesn’t fit your own experience can feel like somebody trying to erase you. I‘ve seen people who are on the spectrums fighting each other over Alastor representations because it doesn‘t fit with their own experience. I think it‘s just hard when the spectrum is so wide that experiences can completely contradict each other and representing one might feel like it somewhat erases the other. In an ideal world, we would all just co-exit, but I‘ll be the first to admit that I felt erased when people started being so insistent Alastor couldn‘t be in any form of relationship because of his sexuality, and then started my spectrum counter argument which might have accidentally talked over the people who did feel represented by that take (I‘m trying to be more mindful about it but we‘re all human and just trying to have fun with our fiction, we‘ll make mistakes). When that argument gets tangled with the people just ignoring the representation alltogether, it turns into the mess we now have…

I don’t understand shipping culture at all. I get that people like fantasizing but I want no part of it. It just makes me uncomfortable. I am on the ace aro spectrum so I guess it makes since. That being said I’m not fully ace and aro and my friend who is fully ace, loves to read ships that are very graphic. I do find it funny that she reads mostly gay ships while being romantically a lesbian. I don’t think many would understand my sexuality so I just say I’m straight, it’s easier. I find it very hard to have romantic attraction and even harder to have sexual attraction. In fact the idea of sex disgusted me until I found one man who I do have sexual attraction to. I’ve seen asked before who my celebrity crush or cartoon crush is. I don’t have one and never have. I related to Data from Star Trek The Next Generation a lot as a kid because he was odd. He thought logically and wanted to understand others. He had one romanic encounter and was loyal to her even after her death. It became an important detail when he had to prove that he is alive in a different since of the world.
