Like it's sibling piece "A Quick Note," this ostrich egg was dyed black after carving. This should be the last of the backlogged eggs that had yet to be posted online, so future uploads may slow down or change slightly in nature, depending on my work as it proceeds (I've been doing some illustrating and other forms of sculpture lately, along with designing a few egg carvings). A practical design: A lifegiving vessel! Why is there so much interest? Know this from my heart: My body is not all of me. Its not even my best part. This piece sits on a base of steel wool, and has an accompanying branch displayed in the vase (too tall for the video; images available on the website!) While continuing my own exploration into the human form, I found myself studying more classical pieces of a similar mindset. Wanting to try adapting these pieces, but not without my own twist, "Greek Yearn" came to be. I suppose my own attempts to understand the human body may have rubbed off on my subjects. "Disability - Mind" is the first posted entry into the "Disability" Series, which is still under development currently. Being constructed in a similar 'ship-in-the-bottle' style method, this piece also acts as a companion for "Behind the Wall." Inside the barbed wire, the figure is more visible than their walled-in counterpart; although perhaps they're more painful to help escape. With this piece, "Community," we're returning to the ostrich eggs proper. While carving this piece, a lot of time was spent at the local apiary and I was lucky enough to be given a hunk of genuine beehive. It now serves as the foundation for the egg's base, completed with honey-colored resin rings and puddle. Hand-Carved Eggshells and Other Arts by Cherie Lee - www.cherieleecreations.com

The final practice piece intermission -- more ostrich eggs coming soon. This piece was a first attempt at transforming a music staff into a structurally stable carving. This wound up being the most direct proof-of-concept from these practice eggs so far; what I learned from doing this piece was heavily leveraged in other pieces "Delicate Note" and "Quick Note," along with "Uplifting" and "Listen!" after I pushed myself into carving the human form. Eggs from emu and rhea birds are smaller, cheaper, and thinner than my usual ostrich egg canvas -- making them great practice pieces for both your wallet and your skills! With thinner walls, I can be pretty sure that anything I can pull off on a smaller egg will be possible on an ostrich one. The third of four practice eggs going up. Like the interlock practice piece from two days ago, this is one egg split in two with a single complicated cut. Different, however, is that this one can be separated while the interlock piece is still locked in place. With one half of the hug removed, it was simple to dye and replace. Some of these elements were used in later piece, "Behind the Wall," posted last week. --- Eggs from emu and rhea birds are smaller, cheaper, and thinner than my usual ostrich egg canvas -- making them great practice pieces for both your wallet and your skills! With the recent series finally covered, we'll show off some older works and practice pieces before moving into another one of the more modern series. For "Behind the Wall," both an ostrich and a chicken egg were used in a ship-in-the-bottle style; the chicken egg (only seen peeking through here) is carved into a person holding their knees. With the wall now built up, they are unable to be removed without breaking something down. Hand-Carved Eggshells and Other Arts by Cherie Lee - www.cherieleecreations.com

The final (bonus) fourth entry in a three-part series titled "Holding it Together." At the time this was my last egg, and when it broke I decided not to give up on making something special out of it. This was a first for me: a non-reductive egg sculpture, inspired by the Japanese kintsugi process but unfortunately in lieu of powdered gold in the creases -- if I can't afford the next egg, I surely shouldn't be buying gold dust!! Hi TOVRUSartSTUDIO. I didn't realize this was listed as public...it's raw footage that was not really supposed to be posted (kind of new to the media stuff, also). I used to use a regular household rotary tool, like a Dremel, but they vibrate a lot (hence your gloves) and can be very 'grippy'. Now I use a dental drill. I have questions about your work, as well. Feel free to reach out: • [email protected] • website: eggscapes.wixsite.com/CherieLee • facebook.com/CherieLeeImagery (or maybe it's CherieLeeCreations...I have both and they're all tangley) • instagram.com/CherieLeeCreations • twitter.com/CherieLeeArtist
