Jumping in to defend the decision to put playable unique cards in armory decks. I don't think it's just a way to extract money out of existing players. The deck needs to be reasonably competitive out of the box, and I think the new equipment and cards served that purpose without asking the new player to go out and spend money on L equipment. Can't put expensive L equipment or high numbers of expensive M's in the armory deck or they'll just get arbitraged and none will be left on the shelf when a new player comes in. If you make a deck of all reprints with lower rarity equipment then no existing players will buy them. They'll sit on store shelves for long periods of time and become a liquidity sink. This will discourage stores from supporting the product line and you'll have a dead product. It would also be hard to make something reasonably competitive out of the box. The ideal armory deck product is something that is reasonably playable out of the box, will sell at least SOME percentage within the first few weeks so retailers will support them, but that there will be some product left on the shelf for new players as they trickle in to the game. That seems like an incredibly hard balance and I think the unique cards was required to pull it off. Ultimately, I think this has been the best onboarding product that LSS has created yet and I think it's unfair to portray it as a money grab. P.S. Love the pod. look forward to it every week.

In the UK "This or that" is called "Would you rather" which seems a bit of a better name/term for it imo :P
We also call it "Would you rather" in the States. It might be a regional based difference. I'm from the East Coast. Maybe out West they call it "This or That"

You know what, you dont want to buy all these first strike decks. Buy the singles. There is an order of magnitude difference between them and mtg. Also new market pandering is how games expand.

Great podcast. Just wanted to give a Brute shoutout: I played Kayo at the calling and me and a buddy also on the deck got to a 10-3 finish. The most important reason for me (besides reps) was that it has an okay matchup into the whole field. Zen and Nuu might both not be favoured, they’re definitely winnable and Kayo has no real auto-losses, which is nice into an open field like a Calling. I played against 5 Zens and 0 Nuu’s, my buddy against 0 Zens and 6 Nuu’s. That’s a rough field to target so having a comfy pick that always has game is a nice place to be, at least for the Calling.

Command and Conquer, Art of War, and Enlightened Strike still see tons of play. These cards have been around forever, and if we had a rotating format they'd probably be gone by now. Likewise, lots of cards are designed to not powercreep these cards. If LL becomes a premier format, could you see these "power 3" being retired into LL only so that we see some more unique designed cards for CC? PS I have my copies so this isn't me complaining about the cost of core cards.

OG FABer here. LSS and James have went back on a lot of their early promises. I think it was for the better, for the most part. I'm super frustrated though they are starting on this multi-product road which WotC are pioneering. If I'm having a full FAB collection, I need to buy so many products now. Armory Decks? - Yes because of the unique cards there First Trike Decks? - Maybe because there might be unique cards there. Mastery Packs? - Yes 3 sets per year? - Yes Even if you play 1-2 classes, or 4-5 heroes, some years you will need to pay so much (when the products align with your choices) which still isn't ok. 3 sets per year was just fine, especially with the way expansion slots work. I hope they don't for further down that road and introduce dozens of products every year like WotC. P.s. I'm not even going to start my rant on the excessive FOMO they are creating around the events in Japan. They made something very unique for the first set released in Japan (giving them the anime alt art within the product), they made something very special for the first event in Japan - giving them the alt art RF enigma and playmat. Ok, you want to appeal to that market it's fair. However, release your 5th year special IN THE MARKET which has THE LEAST contribution to you making these 5 years ... is just a slap in the face
Very excited for a guardian supplemental set, i am incredibly biased but I'd argue the fundamentals of flesh and blood are taught really well by learning guardian. Plus a lot of the draft chaff in Heavy hitters doesn't see any play in Guardian, and was really hoping for that set to overhaul some archetypes that didn't get as much love in previous guardian printings.
Same here, I hope in 150 cards there will be something playable. Now all guardians are based on CnC. Even Terra looks already bad without 3 block earth attacks, I never understood the design nerf on the guardian class

Guardian set is not taking the place of a draft set. They also said it will be majority new cards
The 5 year Anniversary pack is only available and exclusive at Worlds in Osaka.
Guardian Master Set is non draftable and is an additional set that does not take the place of a regular full set, much like a supplemental set.

LSS was being careful on the power level resulting in heroes that made essentially zero impact to the meta. Result was people not looking to play these heros for any extended period.

At medium and low levels of play, the limited format was very weak, overly simple, and generally went to fatigue. Not engaging for the average player

I agree with you around 31:15. Zen isn't a fun matchup, but he's just the Mascot for the current meta. Yes, you can play smart and wait out and plan for his big turn. But no matter how you block, it'll feel bad. And that's where I think the meta hurts now, because even with a handful of 4 block 0 cost D-reacts, you're still having 5-10 leak through each turn. Then having a turn where you can't take any cards from their hand and doing it again.

I feel like having conviction on what your deck wants to do, where it may deviate from others ideas or goals is key. Also understanding that these top players and decks can be improved upon. Take Aim in Azalea lists for instance. It always seemed odd to me that it was missing, but one sound bite from Brody and I followed. 6 months later he's on-board and questioning how it wasn't included before now. Tech space can be the issue, but allowing others to lead you can be the issue.
I played prism into Zen and really tried, I died turn 3 without getting to play with 1 art of war at turn 2. He killed me through figment of triumph -1 reduction on the art of war turn and stonewall turn 3. I still don't understand how Hayden Dale still think its not bonkers with the play pattern. I have to cut all my no blocks to even get to turn 5+ and in a situation where I have to have ALS before they draw Art of war. The Zen player felt so bad that I didn't get to play that he just said "Sorry, Zen is busted".

After day 1 in Amsterdam. If im right, there is 4 Zen's in top 23after the first 4 cc games that went 4-0. 23 players went 4-0.

I'm very, very down on this current meta. My hero is nigh-on unplayable and it's extremely discouraging, it's at least made me branch out to another hero until Nuu and Zen leave, which has been interesting, but my heart belongs to Teklovossen.

Id rather watch flys f**k then watch Kano on stream. Kano on stream is fun for Kano players. Just like Kano in game. Its not fun for anybody else.

@@ajwebber that's cool. We're allowed to disagree. I just really hate the hero, doesn't feel like Flesh and Blood when you play against him. Feels like the only decisions you make that matter during a game against Kano is the turn he is going off.

As a Levia main I understand why Hayden is down on the hero as a design but Shadowrealm Horror is a busted card which opens up a lot of deck building puzzles. The larger issue is that it was released in the same set as Nuu which is a nightmare matchup. It isn’t only Nuu playing Levia’s blues out of banished, it’s the passive hero power that prevents blocking attack actions from going to the graveyard.
