  Imagine the forces of the wind generated by flying hitting the nose of that flexible surface. If a small actuator can deform it, so can the air stream.

  предлагаю схему эксцентриков (изогнутых стержней) с шагом нервюр(или реже) при вращении они сдвигают вверх или вниз стрингеры что образуют форму "носка" крыла. Если програмно разнести вращение эксцентриков (через шаг) можно удвоить эффект или в принципе обратить "носок" в другую сторону. Если сделать програмно вращение эксцентриков независимым то по длине крыла носок может менять профиль произвольно

  If you mean the total surface area, while I am not particularly knowledgeable on the subject, I would be willing to bet it would remain the same. If you mean the frontal surface area, I am not certain, but maybe.
