Taking to an extreme? Not at all--at least from what I can hear a few thousand kilometers away with an ocean in between. Seriously though, I think you're onto something here--less is more, if you know what I mean. The tone you're drawing out is lovely--suave and poignant, and very well suited to this beautiful piece.

I loved this one! Just got my lute repaired after a nasty drop, got some new nylgut strings and finally able to keep them tuned after days of tuning. I like the light touch you mention in the description. That's definitely something I need to work on I'm three years in with the renaissance lute amd stull find myself getting those unseemly twanging sounds every so often and I find myself plucking too hard. Now I'm rambling, but lovely playing as always, thank you for the inspiration, sir!

Rupert, this is very good! I am a cellist in the US. The one dying to play lute but can't read the tablature! Probably going to sell it. Really, this recording is very well done. Why did you stop playing? Your cellos sound is so even...I guess the lute won your heart.
@Lutelover29 күн бұрын
Hi Catherine - thanks for your message. I gave up years ago - life events made me unable to tolerate music for a few years. Lute was a late barmy idea some 8 years ago that I've become obsessed by. Also, I have M.E> and just dont; have the strength to play the cello, but the lute is so low-effort..... :-) Have you really given tablature enough time? It becomes second nature very quickly of you start off with really simple pieces that inevitably ly repeat the same limited number of notes more often.. Go on......stick with it :-)
@joaquimbogunya26 күн бұрын
Hi Catherine. There are some transcriptions of luteworks in stave notation. But as Rupert says, the best is to start learning lute tablature little by little. The Neusidler 'Das Erst Buch', from which he often plays pieces in his videos, is a good beginner's tutor.

@LuteloverАй бұрын
You're right about dear Widor - and I am surprised more composers didn't;t put cello with organ - they tended to steer away from it thinking the sound would get lost. We did a whole recital programme which showed otherwise :-) There are some other pieces somewhere here on KZread including a sonata by - oh god, who was it - one of the early 20c French organ composers, begins with D......
