Hmmm...if you are ever on vacation in Manila visit the St. Michael center in the Philippines and show them this video...very curious to know what Fr. Jose Francisco Syquia would say regarding ringing the bell and bowing before the shrine. 🤔 Hiking the trails is one thing but this is not Lourdes if you understand what I mean?

I understand what you mean. As for me, I’m NOT Catholic. I love to travel and immersing myself in the local culture while traveling. Bowing in front of Shrines is how I show my respect for their religion and culture. When I am at church with my wife and kids, I too bow to show my respect.

LOL that’s why I adopted “slow and steady”. I’m always last into town, Caminos and Kumano Kodo. As long as I have a bed at the end of the day, I’ll savor every moment on trail. Like you I’ve tried just to see how long I can stay ahead, 10 mins max for me and I’m left struggling behind them. Back to slow and steady LOL.

@@neilwatkinson22 “octogenarians” you can’t beat them, they trained year round. I met a man in Santiago de Compostela and he did the entire camino Frances in 28 days in rain and snow. Half of his backpack was filled with medicine and medical devices. “octogenarians” they are such an inspiration for me.

@@Gettinglostonthetrail Kumano Kodo, that’s quite a shortish pilgrimage route near Kyoto, am I right? They also have a much longer one Shikoku. I once read about that one … is quite tough, I think. Kumano Kodo is shorter, but also contains mountains. I once did a very super dhort short pilgrim’s trail near Kyoto, but cannot remember where exactly. It involved a waterfall under which the pilgrim should wash off all the sins or whatever. It was far too cold 🥶. It was early March. Anyway, I then rented a bike and toured lots of beautiful temples outside Kyoto, where Roman letter style street signs had finished. It was as jute an amazing little tour through all those bamboo forests. Also I went hiking on an island opposite Hiroshima. I was the only hiker, and there were supposed to be some monkeys in the hills 🐒. Fortunately I did not meet any there, but I had a monkey problem near Kyoto in Arashiyama park. It was scary. A bunsh of monkeys tried to attack me and I was saved only by a large family also out for a walk here so we outnumbered the monkeys and they then withdrew. So, beware of the monkeys … wherever. I have had it with them. I don’t want to put you off, just beware of the monkeys. Otherwise I found Japan a true pearl. If you do go to Kumano Kodo, please post your beautiful videos!

The Kumano Kodo is a series of ancient pilgrimage routes that crisscross the Kii Peninsula, the largest peninsula of Japan. A “Dual Pilgrim” is someone who has walked both the Kumano Kodo and the Way of St.James (Camino de Santiago). To receive the Dual Pilgrim status, pilgrims must complete one of the options for the Way of St. James, and one of the options for the Kumano Kodo, then register at a designated site. I’m interested in being a dual pilgrim. The Kumano Kodo looks amazing from my research online.

Wow Anton, one after another. I’m envious, excited, and happy for you. Based on your performance on Camino del Norte, Sir you are a veteran hiker, a pro now. Yes, Primitivo is a little challenging from Oviedo to Lugo. Lots of up and down, but doable. Mind you I did it with two bad knees and a swollen ankle. Advice, slow and steady my friend. There’s no need to rush it. You don’t like hiking with the headlamp, there are lots to see. Enjoy the journey. Always have snack on you, some section/town are farther apart. 1.5 liter of water was good enough for me since I did it end of March. Definitely do the Hospitales route if weather permit. For Hospitales route, make sure to carry extra food and water. If you’re not in a rush, stay an extra day in Lugo, big city to explore. You can make up distance after Lugo because it’s relatively flat and lots of road walking after Lugo to Santiago. Best pulpo (octopus) in Melide (Primitivo and Frances meet). Can’t get lost on the Primitivo, arrows are well marked. I’m excited to follow another of your grand adventure. Buen Camino my friend.

It was so delicious 😋, especially midday, tiny town, and there were no other restaurant/bar, but just this one. Owner was very nice, when asked, she served me coke with ice, wow ice 🧊. It was a slow and steady day today. Beautiful weather, a little warm for this time of the year, but got to appreciate the warm Mr. Sun 🌞.

Great to see you are happily hiking … and you met some 🦕 🦖. Yes, Farmer said it: the lovely coffee con leche ☕️! Enjoy them while you can.

Everyday is a grande cafe con leche with little sweet to go with it. Today was a slow and steady day. Managed to squeezed in a nap midday LOL. That’s the beauty of solo hiking, you’re on your time.

No heavy rain to test it out on the Camino, so I used it as a mat to lay down to take a nap on the Camino LOL. I did a post Camino gear video (will post it soon), I will list what was used and didn’t used on the Camino ingles. Thanks for watching Toura.

Congrats James!!! Hope you had a successful Camino. Some sections are difficult, but when overcame it, it’s an amazing feeling. I got lucky with the weather and only light rain one day. Overall, it was a beautiful Camino. Another Camino in store for you in the future? I fell in love with the Camino and can’t seem to shake it off. Again, big congrats James. Buen Camino.

@@Gettinglostonthetrail Thank you! Congrats to you too. Definetly! My studies end in spain in June but I am pretty intent on working out here in the future. Even so if I return for vacation I will get another Camino under me. Camino Ingles was a good starting point, it was my first time doing anything really like this so it helped me understand what to expect/ how to prep. The weather was rough but it made the sun we did get all the more glorious! I think everything is a little more romantic when walking the Camino anyway. Buen Camino!!

@@jameswatkins1367would totally recommend Camino Primitivo for you. A challenging trail indeed, but also the most beautiful in my opinion. If limited in number of days on the Primitivo then just do the start (Oviedo) to Lugo. This section is challenging, but so much to see. The last 100km from Lugo to Santiago is relatively flat and lots of road walking. Each Camino has something different to offer. Whichever one you decide will be a unique experience. All the best James.
