Newcastle Local Interest

Newcastle Local Interest

Housing developments are planned for green fields on the outskirts of Tyneside but the green areas are liable to flooding. The environmental costs of house building could encourage people to leave Tyneside. It is a shame that the inner city areas of Newcastle and North Tyneside have been overlooked.

Residents in Benton could be surrounded by hundreds of new homes. Persimmon Homes is seeking permission to build more than 500 houses on farmland.

There have been plans for housing in the Hazlerigg area in the north of Newcastle. Thousands of new homes are being built across North Tyneside in places including Backworth, Benton, North Shields, Wallsend and West Monkseaton. A planning inspector is looking at the council’s 15-year Local Plan, which is proposing to earmark Murton Gap and Killingworth Moor for around 5,000 new houses.

    great work here & thanks for it, agree with a lot, & disagree with some. I work in construction and have worked with NCC. We don't always get it right, cause we can only do our best at the time, but videos like this/ interest like this (your work/efforts) is the only way we'll get it right next time! Please keep going - it's the only way you'll hold us to task!

    I moved up Newcastle in 2009 with my wife from Hertfordshire, and never looked back. Newcastle is a wonderful place to live in. The history is brilliant.

    It’s amazing to see how with progression, all we have managed to do is construction buildings that’s are not only vulgar but poorly constructed compared to ones from the 1800. Nothing is built to last now

    One of the pictures shown is taken from Eldon Square looking down to Percy Street and it was in this location that Farage ( of Farage Hall) deported himself and his toad like face on a visit during which a quick thinking local Geordie lad took the opportunity to introduce ‘Toadface’ to a milkshake. - (dead accurate). I saw it coming, you saw it coming, we all saw it coming - except Farage. To this day I can still see a crestfallen and irate Farage beating a muttering retreat along Percy Street followed by his minders. I lived in Newcastle for five years and have many happy memories of this time not the least of which is this ‘Farage’ episode. (Howay the lads)

    Agree with some of this - T Dan Smith era was pretty devastating, and the failure to include the west end on the metro was bad (but probably too expensive, despite it being the area that would have most benefitted). I lived in Cradlewell when the bypass was built - yes, some trees were lost but the road had been a pretty bad bottle neck for years, and the bypass effectively 'lifted' the road out of the Dene, so it wasn't all bad and made sense with the existing traffic flow from central motorway to coast road. I do miss the toon.

  • @stevecarr3019
    @stevecarr301910 күн бұрын

    Yes, he was a teacher at Highfield. I've lived in and around Felling for over 60 years, most of Felling and Windy Nook are good places but I probably would agree that there are some nutters knocking about now. However that's probably only the last 10 years or so when people began to loose all respect for the police, their neighbourhood and I'd probably suggest that was when drugs became commonplace.
