    Are there any replacement for the rubber thumb sticks? I have seen the whole thumb stick on Amazon but I don't if it will fit

  • @KylesTinkering

    Unfortunately, none that I've seen for these. You might be able to swap the entire analog stick, desolder the old one, with a replacement that would fit the aftermarket replacement gameube thumb caps. The depth of the replacement caps might be too high or low though

    cheap sticks that you find on amazon do not work properly, they feel too gummy. and, the stick rubber tends to wear away very quickly.

    They aren't perfect, they're not like the original ones, but you can't get OEM thumbsticks from Nintendo. The alternative is keep using the original thumbstick that has no rubber at all left, or torn/missing chunks. They still look nice (color slightly off) and feel fine. Only real problem I've had is the internal hole is deeper than the original, which is why I'm using the UV curing glue to add a little bit of height to the stick. Also gotten away with using a little, tiny, ball of blu tack. Also helps to prevent the thumbstick from lifting up and down

    My Xbox one X no longer wants to boot to mainscreen... Stuck on 26016.1002.amd64fre.rs_cbox_dev_flight.231211.2030, which is OS 10.0.26016.1002 Official one released now is 10.0.25398.4478... So does this mean I need to wait till an OS higher than 10.0.26016.1002 is released till I can restore the Xbox again?

    Not sure about that one. Usually if it gets stuck on doing an update just wiping the HDD and rebuilding it fixes it. Don't think waiting for a higher update would do anything

    Tried this a few days ago. It didn't go well. First i couldn't get the solder to melt to remove the port. Eventually i got it by ripping it the rest of the way off. Then the holes where it seats had too much solder in them and i couldn't get the new port seated properly. I barely got it attached finally but it's still not in the holes as good as it should be. I'm just gonna put it back together and hope for the best but yeah i probably screwed it up worse. What heat gun is that your using? I think i ordered the wrong one. It was a mini heat gun and it wouldn't even melt the solder at all. For my first attempt at soldering id say i pretty much blew it.

  • @KylesTinkering
    @KylesTinkering5 ай бұрын

    Those ground pins suck up a lot of heat, so it does need a good solder iron with a good tip at a pretty high heat. I was probably doing the soldering iron around 400C The hot air station is some generic 858D. Been a while since I bought it but you should be able to find one for under $40 and it's been worth the investment

  • @jasondillon2462
    @jasondillon24625 ай бұрын

    @@KylesTinkering I also thought about buying a solder sucker. My problem is there's still hard solder stuck in the pin holes and i can't for the life of me get it out so i can Seat the port correctly. I tried poking the soldering iron through the holes but a couple of the anchor points got a little tore up. Now i have a feeling the whole board or at least the part where you put the port is trashed. If i could just get those holes unplugged. At least if i attempt this again I'll have a better grasp on how to properly do this. The soldering part is easy. Removing unwanted solder, that's the tricky part.

    @@jasondillon2462 Solder wick, flux, and a hot iron should get the ports out. If the wick isn't getting it add more solder till it's filled the hole and just keep trying

  • @jasondillon2462

    @@KylesTinkering Been trying that. The solder just won't stay melted and almost immediately hardens again. I've tried flux, and solder wick. I got the anchor points cleared out but those little tiny holes you plug the hdmi port into won't come clean. Only thing else i can figure is maybe a solder sucker might do it.

  • @KylesTinkering
    @KylesTinkering5 ай бұрын

    @@jasondillon2462 Worst case, if the holes don't clear out, just let them stay filled and use the hot air to melt the solder in the holes while you insert the new port into the board.

    The xbox controller has a pretty big ground plane, which sucks up a lot of heat. I've taken them off with hot air, and then cleaned up the holes using a solder sucker or braid To make it faster, I just use the soldering iron (about 400C) and solder sucker. Otherwise I'd have to take the green PCB off the board to use the hot air. Plus the hot air might melt the plastics, and I was trying to just swap the button on this

  • @KylesTinkering
    @KylesTinkering Жыл бұрын

    There are people that offer this repair service on eBay, ship it, they fix it, and gets shipped back. I believe Microsoft will also do it, just not free under the warranty You could also call some local shops (electronic repair/phone repair/game stores) and see if they are able to do it. Just look out for reviews before going with them The last ditch effort, sell off the controller as parts/not working on eBay and buy another. See which option is easier/cost effective
