Im having the same issue. what I'm up to is i checked the rotary valve clearance and its way out of spec. It's supposed to be .300mm and .350mm being the max. Im at .582mm and the rotary valve gear has some minor play. Fingers crossed addressing those two will fix my ski. Before learning about the rotary valve i was so confused. I had spark, fuel, compression and air and no boom. Before this problem, my check valve was bad and she refused to start. Just too many little things will make this ski not have combustion.

This is a simpler engine more like a chainsaw that a motorcycle or car. Valve timing stoke issues there as there are only 2 stokes per cycle. I think you are doing good except for maybe joining a sea-doo forum and downloading and printing out a proper service / repair manual. You probably should have at least done some research on 2 stoke engines , that may not have been as entertaining as it has been . I enjoyed watching you struggle. I purchased a not running 98 Xp with sugar in the gas tank that had not been run through the system only because the key was missing. It is now my favorite thing but I struggled too. the non genuine carb kit may be an issue you should at least be able to test the carb functionality with a small pump tester with an air pressure guage. I found one for $26 on Amazon. Good luck to you. I hope you get it running.

You should be able to run the 14's. You are limited with tires sizes though. I would run a 235/60r14 front and back.

  • @14shawn44

That was somewhat painful yet entertaining to watch lol. That’s a rotax rotary valve engine. There’s a valve plate that replaces traditional reeds in a 2 stroke engine. So long as nobody has been in there moving things, the rotary valve was probably ok. One HUGE mistake you were already warned about is the carb rebuild kit. I didn’t have to see it to know there was fuel just spraying out of the plug holes. That’s the cheap rebuild kit.. very bad material that opened the pop off valve way too early. They weren’t kidding about genuine mikuni ONLY. You had a great start though! I’m concerned with how hard it was to turn over even with a new starter, but you had compression, spark, and thankfully the dess key worked. That’s usually a big problem. I would have checked the rotary valve timing just to be sure and gone genuine mikuni rebuild. You were right there. If it started and ran off I’d do a leak down test checking the outer seals. At least you got your hands in it and gave it a shot. I like rescuing old skis!

I installed one very similar to that on my 88. That lead on the firewall did have a stock connector, but I ended up parallel-spicing the tach signal-wire into it. I confirmed it with a Volt meter…gave me a pulsating 12v signal.

I’ve had the exact same problem with a bombardier engine. They have rotary values. I was pumped watching this as I’ve been trying to get mine started. I’ve done everything you did. Ended up being the cables from the starter to the solenoid. Had built up corrosion over the years and not allowing enough amps. Awesome video, you are not an idiot. Bump those other guys. Boats and jet skis take a different set of knowledge. Keep up the good work. 🤙🏽

I have a '93 S-10, 2 door, 2 wheel drive, short bed. It came with a 2.8L EFI V6 and a 5 speed. It now has a carbureted 383ci V8 and a Muncie "rock crusher" 4 speed, as well as a Ford 8.8 rear axle. I didn't lower it. I wanted it to be drivable. I put 225/70-14 BFG Radial T/As on 14x6 Camaro Rallys in the front, and huge 275/60-15 Radial T/As on mid '70s 15x8 Corvette Rallys in the rear. Quite a few other things too, but that is the big stuff. I tried my best to make it look like an early '70s muscle car, and I think it turned out well. It has a true dual exhaust out the back, with glasspacks, and just over 400hp at the rear wheels at 5400 rpm. Burnouts are super easy. It's almost hard not to do one. You have to take it easy on the pedal. I bought all new aftermarket reproduction rally wheels, trim rings, and center caps. The 14x6 Camaro and 15x8 Corvette rallys are exactly the same other than size. All in all I have over $2000 into tires and wheels. Did you check the pinion angle? It needs RWL tires, trim rings, and a cowl hood.
