Shotokai was not founded by Gichin Funakoshi, who established Shotokan. Shotokai was an all Japanese "deviation" from Shotokan, albeit with some logic in rejecting the sports transformation of the original Okinawan karate. Egami unfortunately took an absurd path in imagining a no-touch form of combat which discredited him.

Bushi MATSUMURA lived in Fuzhou China for 20 years. He brought back his knowledge and reduced and simplified it to suit the shorter heavy short limbed Okinawa people. He kept his knowledge and favorite methods within his own family and passed everything down to his Grandson NABE MATSUMURA who then taught everything to his last surviving relative his nephew SOKEN HOHAN. SENSEI SOKEN called his direct lineage system; “ SHORIN RYU. MATSUMURA ORTHODOX” There is intense jealousy in Okinawa so you will not hear much about it especially since the practitioners won so many tournaments for 20 years and had almost exclusive teaching contracts on American bases because of the effectiveness and lethality of the system needed during the 1960-70’s SE Asian theatre

This video has pretty good (not great) information for those who do not know the history of Uechi ryu. Or have read many different (though similar) versions of the history. So please bear with me while I critique the 'video' itself. (Cause I woke up in that kind of crappy mood - my apologies for those with thin skin and on the hate bandwagon. Not trying to offend) This video left out the specific reason Kanbun left China and why he didn't want to teach for some years. And how he was really convinced by Ryuyu Tomoyose to teach again. Also missing is when the name was changed from Pangainoon to Uechi ryu. But as for the video itself, the calypso music in the background is distracting as is the A.I. voice mispronouncing certain simple words. Too many videos these days are using it and it's annoying. I'd rather hear a human voice. Also, I found the old film filter annoying and unnecessary. Especially when used with modern video (even though there is no correlation with the narration, but I get it). The old film filter serves no purpose. And the in your face "Like and Subscribe" popping up 3 times was also annoying. But as I stated from the beginning, this is a decent basic informational video of the founder of Uechi ryu. The internet is full of historical versions of Uechi ryu. And books as well.

This is mostly fantasy and not history. Kunoichi no jutsu is a technique described in the Bansenshukai, a collection of ninjutsu teachings from 1681. It’s not used to describe a female Shinobi, but is a technique of using a female agent to help an actual Shinobi infiltrate an enemy stronghold. In fact, that section speaks quite negatively about using females for Shinobi operations, and warns to be very selective about choosing a female to use for this purpose l, essentially stating that women are untrustworthy and of bad moral character.

"Kunoichi" is actually pretty derogatory, in the cultural context. It literally translates to "extra hole". The most accurate name for what we call "ninja" would be "shinobi-no-mono", which is unisex, and therefore is further proof that the term "kunoichi" was created as a slur. Not that it really matters, as pop culture (animé) has already married the idea of kunoichi being female shinobi.

Who put this crappy video together? It is terrible and WRONG. First of all, the Japanese terminology and pronunciations are laughable. Next they put a picture of me and my teacher Takamura Yukiyoshi up backwards, and timed it so the voice over makes it appear Takamura sensei is the Shindo Yoshin ryu founder, Matsuoka Katsunosuke. Third? What is this nonsense about Ueshiba Morihei and Aikido being somehow linked to Otsuka and Wado ryu??? That is complete fiction, it NEVER HAPPENED! If you want an accurate description of Wado ryu and Shindo Yoshin ryu history, buy the book written by me and budo historian, Shingo Ohgami. @@THEWISDOMOFTHEEAST Wisdom of the East? There is no "wisdom" to be found here. Look, who are you? Why are you hiding your identity behind a moniker? I guess it's because this AI generated garbage is just horrible and you don't want your real name connected to it. That you haven't taken this monstrosity down says everything people need to know about your buds accuracy or research. You schlep information from websites without any concern or awareness that it may be utter nonsense. You do not credit the sources for the information. Do you even bother to see if the sources you are stealing from are copyrighted? I doubt it! FWIW, Wado ryu practitioners who know the facts are passing this mess of yours around online and laughing their butts off at it. It's really that bad. Don't even get them started on the Japanese pronunciations of people and places.......That is whole other level of hilarity. Look, what you have posted is an insult to Otsuka and Wado ryu.
