National Goju Karate Brisbane

National Goju Karate Brisbane

Located in Norman Park, Morningside and Annerley, Brisbane Goju Karate facilitates Goju Ryu Karate do Seiwakai martial arts and karate classes to adults and children with an emphasis on building fitness, core strength and confidence. Students will learn proven Goju Ryu karate and self defence techniques first developed by renouned martial arts instructor Chojun Miyagi from Okinawa back in the late 1800s.

The Brisbane Goju Karate training environment encourages students to push harder to overcome physical and emotional boundaries, leaving them better equipped to deal with life's challenges. We believe working harder together in a group with a common goal provides for greater individual success.

Our promise to you is that every rank you earn will come with an unparalleled sense of achievement.

    I appreciate the mutual respect and control of technique. It is obvious that either could "scale this up" if need be, but having this control allowed for the ability to execute numerous techniques and explore / exploit strong and weaker points. (From an Isshinryu practicioner ... a blend of Goju Ryu and Shorin Ryu.) Nice job!

    Formidable opponent Good form overall, I believe he was trying to teach you to relax your shoulders. You need to stretch and drop them, it was good but it lacked the nuance of balance. Lower your stance about an inch or two. This is a key kata keep working it forever, and your core power will make you a formidable opponent.

    I find it interesting the differences in Sanchin. I studied Goju with AOGKF and our sanchin kata did not involve any turning. We did enjoy the same testing though :)

    Hi! There are more than one Sachin Kata. The first one is chojun Miyagi sanchin kata, and the other one is Kanryo higaonna sanchin Kata, wich came from China, by the way. Both have similar moves, but the difference between them is that in one of them there is turning. It keeps being an "heishugata".

    Also... I see many Sanchin tests/demos have the groin strikes accompanied with the slap strikes but this one has by far way more groin strikes than I've ever seen. I see some that dont do the groin strike at all. Why is this?

    In my dojo, our thighs are flexed and closer than his is, so that any groin strike is stopped by the flexed muscles, the sensei will do controlled yet firm kick. He can usually already tell if the kick will go through the legs or not by looking at your stance and controls it so as to not tap any of the men's jewels or woman's whoha.

  • @haiphucnguyen828

    Masters would usually kick their students in between their legs like that to check their form during the kata because your supposed to have a tension between your legs to stop groin strikes

  • @chara2038
    @chara20389 ай бұрын

    As far as i know, this is the reason: The leg position is, more often than not, the thing we mess up the most during Sanchin: The two ways people usually mess it up is by bending their knees to the inside (wich is clearly visible) or by keeping their tights too spread (wich is not easy to notice by just looking, especially since gi pants are quite loose) so a groin kick from bellow is the best way to make sure your legs are well positioned, the kick won't reach if you are doing it right. However, if you are not doing it right, you get kicked "right where it hurts" so to speak, so many dojos avoid doing it

    I would’ve stopped it at 0:44, probably even if they asked for more. Maybe not, if I was feeling particularly uncharitable. The man in the black gi is wild concussed from that brilliant overhand right. He was already incredibly disorientated from the vaso-strikes. No judgement, brilliant spar but rough.

    Greetings from the UK. Any advice on reducing rapid blinking during sparring? I find that when I want to move in close range I can't stop blinking like I'm subconsciously trying to brace myself.

  • @BrisbaneGojuKarate
    @BrisbaneGojuKarate2 жыл бұрын

    Slowing your sparring down initially can be a good way to feel more comfortable about sparring with contact, without the need to excessively brace for contact. We also do a lot of partner drill work to condition our students not just physically, but mentally. Drills with physical contact help to normalise striking with power (and control) and enable students to deal with the stress of sparring.

    As a karate-ka myself currently deep into another lockdown unable to train with anyone, what I want to work on more in my kumite is leading my partner into submission, trying to blend some elements to not rely so heavily on strike strike get back and repeat approaches, but rather, from more natural stance defend come in with smaller strikes that look ok on camera then do a take down like a hip throw for eg and hold into submission if necessary. I feel I can ask my training partner this favour and he'll dial down the intensity for me to build up to it, and also ask to emulate the predicted behaviour of someone who's received those first two strikes meaningfully which is another element missed from light sparring and fair enough, it's sort of for a different purpose. What I'm describing is more a combination of self defence with kumite and some influence of Japanese Jiu Jitsu. Not for the result of MMA and octagon fighting, but to really hone what Karate is and be prepared for real life physical altercations. It's also handy to add more emulated emotion into things once in a while because when confronted with screaming mad men or women you need to have come to understand your adrenalin system in those situations better in order to confront them effectively. These are words from a black belt who went on to work in Security for several years, not to fight! but to keep the peace and definitely to keep people and their belongings safe, the work ain't as easy as it can sometime look from the outside! So in the job you want to finish the altercation quickly and or peacefully ideally, it can be partly physical and still peaceful yet effective, this is the outcome of practice. The level of endurance you train for in the dojo can also be for a standard outside of this real work application too, no fight is going to go on as long as a scene from a Kung Fu movie. You're going to throat strike them and sweep their legs, something like this, 2seconds and that's one down. What you aren't going to do is bounce back and forth exchanging strike for strike for 60seconds.

  • @BrisbaneGojuKarate
    @BrisbaneGojuKarate2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, dojo sparring is certainly a very different process to a real life exchange.

    @@BrisbaneGojuKarate I'd recommend to any karate dojo/sensei to have some combat capable friend come into your dojo up to all your students with some padding and a groin cup under some real delinquent looking clothing making a REAL threatening aggressive approach on everyone. Have your students confront their inner workings much closer, all that adrenalin is something you can never prepare for quite properly until exposed to it. It'd actually work better 1v1 though, on the way to the car or something. I'm sure it's been done before, some crazy enough sensei organizing someone to harass their students lol..
