  Nowadays he doesn't talk like this because criticizing Star Wars was strategically associated with racism, sexism, and other forms of bigotry. As a public figure he wants to stay away from that. John Boyega however has no issue with it, because due to being part of a marginalized community, it's hard for people to call him one of the "isms" without seeming so themselves.

  I get what she was saying. Basically, a character doesn't have to have inherent or obvious character flaws, in order to be compelling. Chris Evans' Captain America, is a great example of that.

  @@JarJarAbrams He did. But even before Steve Rogers' physical transformation. They establish his admirable character traits. He doesn't come off as a goody two shoes, he just comes off as a heroic protagonist, that you're rooting for.
