How can this incredibly interesting, informative, well put together video only have 165 likes?! I'm not a hard alcohol lover at all, w/ the exception of Grappa Mirtillo, a wild blueberry infused grappa, which I first had in the Trentino, and which is popular there and reminds me of my grandparents' roots in the Alps of Trentino... but this makes me want to try absinthe!

Wow, this was a VERY interesting and enlightening video! It's so interesting to know the history of absinthe in particular and how the wine industry used lies and disinformation to get their "competitor" absinthe banned in Europe. It struck me immediately how this is soooo similar to how the alcohol industry in the U.S. (and perhaps around the world?) used an analogous disinformation campaign villainizing marijuana/cannabis, which used to be legal everywhere, to get its competitor banned. A ban based on a campaign of lies from which we are only now crawling out from under! It makes me wonder if the U.S. distillers/brewers/vintners had knowledge of this European propaganda method used to get absinthe banned, and then turned around and used an analogous campaign to ban cannabis! I am interested in looking more into the roots of that U.S. disinformation campaign now.

Informative! I happen to love the taste of anise. I add it to my pho recipe at home. And recently I discovered Chichaito which is rum infused with anise. I can't find it in stores and, as far as I know, it is sold in Puerto Rico. So I am going to infuse rum or gin with star anise, fennel and maybe add some sugar. Thanks for the history!

I’m glad you liked it! Here you have: Braulio - Made near the border with Switzerland, this amaro is made from a secret recipe of over 20 mountain herbs and botanicals, which are gathered and used to create this one-of-a-kind spirit. Foresty, herbaceous, and piney, with a floral character and a distinct menthol note. Intense concentration with a touch of medicinal spice that speaks to the original purposes of these ancient potions. Very refreshing, with a pungent bitterness. Cynar- It's made by steeping 13 herbs in a neutral spirit. But what makes the spirit really stand out is its primary ingredient: artichokes. Fernet Branca - Fernet, a bracingly sharp and minty intoxicant, is a subsect of amaro-the broad category of bittersweet herbal Italian digestif liquors usually consumed at the end of a meal to aid in digestion-and counts a centuries-old history rooted in medicine. Aside from having an ABV that usually clocks in at 40 percent, the main difference between Fernet and amaro is that Fernet is less sweet, in fact, usually not sweet at all. Made from 27 herbs and other ingredients. It is known that the beverage contains aloe ferox (bitter aloe), gentian (a bittering agent), chamomile, angelica, quinine, chinese rhubarb, myrrh, peppermint, saffron. herbal bitter liqueur that tastes kind of like shoe polish and mint but in a good way. Amaro Montenegro - Made with 40 botanicals-their precise formula is strictly guarded-Montenegro is bold with orange and caramel, judiciously balanced with the bitter. Bright and extremely likeable, it’s delicious sipped neat or on the rocks after dinner, as it often is in Italy. Please subscribe if you haven’t yet to get new videos when I post. Hope this helps; Thanks!
