@iaincampbell_Сағат бұрын
Hey bru. You can do the lighter method but like 5-10 seconds at a time and then let it cool... I usually burn it a bit and then leave some spit on it for a few hours and then clean it with a micro fibre close a few times... Takes a bit of work but it comes eventually...

In 2012 I was in Central Java to kayak some whitewater. At the end of the trip I took a trip to Karimun Jawa, a group of islands about 85 km offshore. We stayed on Wisma Apung which is basically a simple hotel on stilts on the ocean, with an enclosure that housed white tip reef sharks and you could swim with them, which I did. They were 1.5m at most. That evening a guy threw in a blue spotted stingray to feed them. It was a fair size, maybe 50cm across. That ray vanished in well less than 10 seconds. The sharks went nuts. I decided right there and then that I would not get in again - quite an eye opener! P.S. it has no waves.
@iaincampbell_51 минут бұрын
For sure an eye opener... I prefer to avoid them as much as I can!

Caves always has the eerie feeling! Luckily it was just a bronzie. Even spearfishing they aren't terrible but I'd also have gotten out right away, no doubt. Unless you're diving you cannot see what may/may not come so bodyboarding you're a sitting duck. Earlier this year I was bodyboarding Woodbridge Island in some very dirty water. About half an hour in something hit my shin just above my ankle. It was a solid hit, some a friend doing an open palm ninja chop - not kelp or anything as I wasn't getting worked just gently paddling. I would assume it was the pectoral fin of a bronzie but I crapped myself and exited immediately 🤣 I've been windsurfing 25 years now and seen many many sharks. Because we cover ground you do see them. What I can say is that you'll only see them if you're one of the first people on the water. The minute you have a few kiters and windsurfers out, the sharks move off right away. They don't bug me, but when I bodyboard I do feel way more "at risk", if one can call it that. Brilliant footage by the way! Falling off definitely not ideal. The sharkiest spot (apart from Caves) that I have experienced is Platboom. I guess it's mostly spotted gulley sharks and bronzies, but still.

Keeping the board close is easier if you are keeping your elbows close to you side. Will keep everything compact and tight. When you go to spin out you should already be close to where you need to be and just moving your head should be enough.
