I might open a business soon because it looks like I can scale this side hustle with great success. In your case I'd try to go to Australia, they pay rly well, I miss Australia almost everyday. One step ahead of ya. I have a spreadsheet that calculates every single monthly expense of mine. It gives me my total expense for 1 month, 1 year, 5 years, and 20 years. We're talking electric bill, mortgage, Netflix, Prime, lawn service, car insurance, gaming services, everything and everything. Anything that is a annual payment, I divide by 12 and if it fluctuates like an electric bill then I take the average from my previous 12 months.

    Just curious how your getting the number so low, wouldn't you need to account for more years than the typical person (because you'd be retiring so early), also are you not worried about the S&p not netting 10%, past performance is not indicative of future performance and also considering if the S&p has a down year it would hurt you more because all of your savings are tied to it.

  • @Greinerdavid
    @Greinerdavid2 ай бұрын

    great question Eric. Yes exactly past performance is not guaranteed for the future, maybe it'll be -20% next year and after +30% or maybe just +2%. If I was retiring in a bear market I can also just keep working or pick up a side hustle. But overall I try to be optimistic rather then being pessimistic and "wasting" my best years. And my savings are not 100% tied into the S&P you always want to have an emergency fund for those scenarios.

    @@Greinerdavid So True. The reason I said that was on Monday I lost 350 dollars due to selling too soon. Plan was to sell regardless, and at a loss (wanted to move money from a pretty dead company to something better). Stock had already been going down for a month. Then came a report giving some bad news. I expected the stock to plummet even more as it had done with previous bad reports. Alas, it opened really low. Then it climbed to what I would call "morning glory". Then I sold it as it started to sink again, and usual pattern usually is a big dip. But no. Instead - after bad reports - it started climbing. For no reason. And stabilized slightly higher. I could have gained about 50-60 dollars on that. I know, small money, but it is the principle that annoys me. Same now with another stock. Got good report. Stock plummets.... Like wtf?
