    I agree, it is very close and a great controller for the vast majority of use cases. And if you are not used to playing on the elite controller, you would never notice this. But without those back triggers being setup the same way as the elite controllers, it is not a 1:1 replacement that I would be looking for, for games like Halo. I want to be able to play the same way on all of my devices instead of needing to fight muscle memory on different platforms for the same game.

  • @beyondtheringgaming
    @beyondtheringgamingАй бұрын

    I don't have my steam deck on me right now to check the exact size but I gave the majority of the space to Windows. Probably about 70%. My reasoning was that a lot of the games on Game pass were close to 100gb. Where I used SteamOS was largely smaller games that I more want to pickup and play for a few minutes. Yeah you can install games from Wndows on the SD card. For this you follow a similar setup you do for installing Windows. You format the card for SteamOS on the SteamOS side. Then you use your partition tool to resize it, and then add the Windows partition there. So your SD card will also be split.

    You can choose to run whatever you want on your device, but there is some legit errors in this monologue. Testing one game and seeing a FPS difference and assuming that is a good enough test to tell the whole story is whole inaccurate. Some games run better on linux, some do not. 95% you can't even tell the difference without running some FPS overlay. I have actually read 2 articles just this month talking about how linux is starting to surpass many benchmarks. The funniest ones were how Microsoft titles were some of those that preformed the worst against linux. The point you made about Epic Game store not working is just wrong. Half my library is non-Steam through mostly Epic but also GOG and Amazon etc. Those are all installed through the Heroic Games Launcher, which after installed, has a setting that auto adds it to the Steam OS with art and all. The only real issue left for the most part is anti-cheat third party crap. If you are into those games, right now, the steam deck just isn't for you. Yes, there are (more expensive) alternatives out there that run windows out the box, but it is extremely arguable that it is a better experience. The UI sucks for hand held gaming arguably and the battery drain is so much worse that you end up just turning the dang things down so much that it's odd seeing the point of paying for that extra power when you just turn it down to what Valve already figured out was a sweeter spot. Speaking of adjusting settings for power, ALL built into the Steam OS for easy access. Linux really could be gamers best friend when it comes to cost of ownership if they could just get away from the cult of windows and its power hold. Everybody hates it, but everybody also has Stockholm Syndrome. You hear the same excuses over and over with the cool kid one being compatibility. I have a folder set aside for those not compatible and all of those dump into Steam OS at about a 1/3 non-steam and 2/3 steam with around 900 games. How many are in that folder? 5. Five! Oh my lord, so un-compatable. LOL Granted, I don't play competitive FPS or Fortnite. But like I said, if that is the only games you play, I concede that Linux is not for you... yet. But to keep saying there is some major compatibility issue is getting further and further from the truth as the years go by. Also--- great Board Game Collection

    Most of the Legion Go issues could be solved if we could buy replacement controllers. I was hoping a 3rd party from China would have made one by now but I don't think the Legion Go will get that kind of 3rd party support the way the steamdeck does. Even indi games play on the steam deck with out using steam. It's the developers that need to press a few extra buttons or type a bit of code for them to work on steam os/linux. The more people reject using windows the more developers will make their games work on steam os/linux.

    Not wanting to use and support Windows is valid, I am not particularly inclined to want to use it either. It isn't my OS of choice and they do a lot of things I strongly dislike with Windows. But for me, similar to how I have a PS5 even though it is not my console of choice, what matters to me is the games. On my gaming PC and this the only thing I do on it is games, I use my Mac for the rest of my general computing. So personally, compatibility wins out. My problem with the Windows discussion is the narrative that it is holding handhelds back or that it somehow doesn't work. Which just isn't true. SteamOS is great and the work they have done with Proton should be celebrated. But it also isn't a perfect solution for gaming. It is all pros and cons to me.

    I like the idea of the FPS mode, I'd like you to review how good gyro aiming works on it. My main issue with Steam Deck competitors is that they run full Windows and not a gaming dedicated OS. For a gaming device this is really clunky.

  • @beyondtheringgaming
    @beyondtheringgaming3 ай бұрын

    FPS mode was one of this, great in theory but in practice un-usable for me with games like Halo. So it just didn't matter for me. I will be honest on Gyro, I ignore it here and on my Steam Deck. These devices for me are meant to augment how I play games on a PC or Console that don't have Gyro gaming so the feature is kinda meaningless for me. I could talk about it but I don't feel like I can talk about it in any informed manner since I don'y use it. As far as the OS being clunky, your right that Windows is clunky but like I have mentioned it being a gaming device you should be spending most of your time in a game anyways where the OS doesn't matter. Windows gets you all of the compatibility with games that SteamOS just can't offer at this time. Proton is great, but it's not perfect. Then you could even add in Steam Big Picture mode or Playnite and it is even closer to working like a dedicated handheld.

Windows is for sure both a pro and a con. As a long time pc gamer, windows jank is just background noise, but for people coming from console, i can see it being a hassle. The best comparison I've heard between the deck and the Legion Go/ROG Ally is that the deck is a console first, a computer second. The LeGo/Ally are computers first and consoles second. You can consolize them by putting in a steam os build like Bazzite or Chimera, or have steam run in big picture mode on startup (which is my current setup), and you can computerized the deck using desktop mode, but in the end, windows just runs everything, while a console is going to play what is meant to play and you still have to do some tinkering to play things outside that.

    Um you know Sony gets a cut out of everything sold on the Playstation store right. If Microsoft puts a game on the Playstation store Sony does in fact get paid some amount of that money.

  • @beyondtheringgaming
    @beyondtheringgaming6 ай бұрын

    I never made claims otherwise but assuming the high likelyhood that they would not have made a sale to that player in the first place, that is still 70% of the money on a sale compared to $0 Third party publishers like EA and Ubisoft seem to be doing just fine with this 30% cut so there is no reason to assume that Xbox wouldn't either. Steam also takes a large cut and Microsoft (and Sony) made the decision to publish their games there as well.

    Consoles dont sell at a lose over their life time, only for the frist few years after release. The worry is that if all games come to PlayStation then picking the PlayStation is a no brainer. Xbox sales will plummet to the point where there it makes less sense to produce. Once we have only one console Sony has no incentive to push tech forward to beat a competitor.

  • @beyondtheringgaming
    @beyondtheringgaming6 ай бұрын

    Normally that is the case, however given what has been going on with pricing this generation I am not sure if that is true this time around. They may both be selling at a loss. Regarding the second point, that is valid. I am not enthused with the idea of Sony having no competition due to their tendency of anti-consumer behavior when they are at the top. However there may still be a reason to get an Xbox console, like Xbox Game Pass which isnt on other consoles. Maybe you prefer the ecosystem, maybe that is where most of your friends are, you want cross saves between PC and Xbox, etc. There are ways outside of games that Xbox has differentiated itself from Playstation.

    It seems to me like it would be a win-win. Xbox still gets their money, we get more players. I feel like the only games that need to be exclusive are games that rely on a certain hardware feature of a console, like a lot of Nintendo DS games will likely be stuck there or require a lot of effort to move over which likely wouldnt be worth it. Or games that may be targeting a certain audience, like you could argue the Switch has vs other consoles.

    @@beyondtheringgaming You really think Sony would just let Microsoft put their games on Playstation and let them have all the money? Not going to happen. Both Sony and Microsoft take 30% of all purchases on their respective stores. A Microsoft game on the Playstaion would mean either Microsoft and Sony both take 30% and the dev gets screwed or Microsoft and Sony split that 30% and both get a lot less money. It's just not economically viable to take that massive revenue cut when you still have to pay for printing, shipping, royalties, licensing, etc.

  • @beyondtheringgaming
    @beyondtheringgaming6 ай бұрын

    @MrGhosta5 As I mentioned in my other reply, that simply isn't true (it being viable) or third party publishers like EA and Ubisoft would have gone out of business years ago. Developers also take that cut on Steam.

  • @torb-no
    @torb-no6 ай бұрын

    @@MrGhosta5 The main point being in the video regardless is that none of this should scare us gamers. Generally I have to say I tire of consumers being super worried about the wellbeing of giant companies. It's kinda strange. Either way, I think there are situations where it will make both of them money and in those cases they will, in other cases they would consider it not viable and then they wouldn't. 🤷🏼

  • @beyondtheringgaming

    I think there is value of concern over a game publisher, if for example Microsoft leaves gaming that could mean the end of Halo, Gears, etc. But them expanding to make more money isn't a sign of concern. This is not a cause for concern and isn't something that has a negative impact on gamers. Microsoft very well understands the importance of leaving their own products to make money. Windows may be a major product for them but that didn't stop them from releasing Office on Mac in 1989 and continuing to support and update it. That runs counter to them selling Windows but by supporting Mac they were not leaving money on the table. And btw Microsoft Office is also on the Mac App store, which takes a 30% cut. That is just one example of Microsoft not shooting themselves in the foot by supporting only their software. The exact same situation exists here.

    Is this the Steam Deck OLED? or the LCD version of it? I currently have the OLED and have been looking to get windows and the sound working properly on there. I already have Windows 11 installed, but there has been issues with the audio, where you can only hear something if you plug in headphones into it. Bluetooth doesn't work either.

    Great work with the various camera angles. It looks like you totally overcooked the chocolate custard and as a result the butter didn't incorporate properly. The next time you heat the custard and bubbles start to appear on the surface, stir for 2-3 minutes and then remove from the heat. Unfortunately, the cream was also completely over-whipped. With such a small amount, it is best to beat by hand or use a hand mixer and check for consistency. I look forward to more videos from you.

    You're the second person I've seen on KZread to actually unbox theme. They call them dolls mainly because it was the Disney princess characters that kicked off their whole "Limited Edit doll" line well over a decade ago. If it makes you feel any better the brown cardboard boxes they used to mail them to you in used to say "Girls Dolls" on them, and now it just says "Toys and games". Personally, I'd consider these to be more like poseable figures than dolls. They've sold non-park looking limited edition Minnie mouse dolls in the past, and they had rooted hair covering both of their ears, and they had rooted eyelashes which these don't have.

  • @beyondtheringgaming

    Personally I don't really care if its "Doll" or "Action Figure", more just commenting that it isn't something I would have normally done on my channel. But I still stand by my opinion that there really isn't any difference between a "Doll" or "Action Figure" other than who they are marketing too.

  • @ryanb4940

    No, they’re definitely dolls. Like 100000% could not be considered anything else. They are dolls. Is that bad? NO! Should a guy be embarrassed by them? NO! If you’re too uncomfortable with yourself to buy something you like because it’s a doll, you have some issues to get over. These dolls are awesome and shouldn’t need to be “oh, no, they’re def posable figures!!!” Noooo bro, they’re dolls and that’s ok.

  • @TheLostWorldFanChann

    @@ryanb4940 No worries, I have well over 2,000 dolls in my collection, and most of them are proudly on display. Life is too short to be embarrassed by the few things that bring you joy. I still consider these to be figures, and not dolls though. For one thing dolls have rooted hair / rooted eyelashes. You can call a plastic posable teddy Bear that has an outfit on a "plush teddy bear" if it makes you happy, but it doesn't stop being a plastic posable figure of a teddy bear.

    So I just look a look at it and while it does seem interesting and likely a good option for some people, it also makes some choices that defeats the purpose for me personally. - Disabling the Xbox game bar: like I mentioned one of the key drivers for me to use Windows is Game Pass and the Xbox ecosystem, so I use the game bar - Defaulting to the Big Screen Steam view: similar to above, I have had issues with game pass games in steam and I don't restrict myself to just playing games with Steam. I have Epic, Game Pass, and others. It does seem like a great option if you are not as technical, but I would rather know everything done to my installation and if you go with the LTSC version you don't need to worry about debloating.
