    My Ring doorbell pro 2 comes with a plug-in adapter. I'm wondering if I should buy a transformer if this is the case?

    Thank you SO MUCH for clearing that up!! Really insightful. Aside from Tapo focusing on more niche products, I wonder if there's any 'philisophical' differences between the companies. For instance, does one embrace Matter/Thread more than the other? Sounds like the Kasa stuff isn't good for mesh networks, which is funny, because TP-Link sells a LOT of mesh routers! lol

    Thank you, thank you for describing a disgusting change of service from Amazon. I pay monthly and I can’t control Alexa to do what I pay her for. Hey Alexis, stop putting songs I don’t want to listen to tracks other than what I requested. I’m discontinuing paying for this service. It’s a disservice to allow Alexa and Amazon to screw up our listening to music. Amazon, you guys need to think about all the other people who are gonna bail out of your $12 a month plan. Rip off you can’t even deliver the songs I wanna hear anymore. I hate you. I hate you, Alexa.

    Ring doorbells and the like are garbage without a subscription! I just trashed it and all the shit they told me to buy and set it up as they said to set it up with the app they said to use. Without using security-compromising apps and a paid subscription, it is just useless garbage. I bought a security camera, night and day capable, for much less and use a Linux-based, open-source app running on a Linux OS on a SBC Rasperypie board connected to my PC by way of Ethernet. All of which is isolated from the internet and do not use any connections to WiFi or Bluetooth, or any other type of wireless connection. People who use any product that requires their proprietary software apps and a paid prescription are fools. They are lazy and hand over their private information and money for convenience. I do not need storage in any cloud! And I most certainly will not pay for it. I altered the doorbell camera of the ring crap and tethered it to the other cameras threw the SBC and to a conventional door chime. I have 24/7 video coverage with day and night vision and even an infrared camera. And all of it is less expensive than the ring doorbell and the other crap the company says to purchase with it. I never use apps on my cell phone! If I can not use it on my computers then I will not use them. The Apps and the information collected in the cloud are compromised. It is garbage and a scam. For the computer ignorant, technologically ignorant, and lazy people, this is the product for you. For those with the skills and an existing computer network, just do not be lazy and set up your own camera and doorbell system. This is my Beginner Friendly buying guide. If you resent this comment, that F**k you! You are an ignorant person and deserve to have your money and personal information stolen. I have no empathy for you. Have fun with your Ring crap!

    This is ridiculous. I wasn't paying enough attention and accidentally bought two tapo switches on Amazon thinking they were kasa (I think they were labeled as a "newer model" of the switches I wanted) and now I have to decide if I want to return them or try to integrate with my existing kasa setup

    Hello do you know of a way to set multiple light changes on the bar lights that go behind the tv I use to have 9 scenes set up that rotated in labs while I watch movies or play games . Like the prism effect. But the bar lights do not have the prism button to do this now kind of frustrating.

    I just canceled both of my ring subscriptions this morning. I wake up and $100 has been taken from my account. I never opted for autopay. Plus, I just bought my second camera in December. Ring took it upon themselves to just go ahead and “bundle” both cameras together and charge me the full $100 only after having the new camera for 6 months. The cameras are sub par. They take 10 to 15 seconds to load. Once they finally load, the person that caused movement is gone. Just a waste of money. When I bought my first camera it was $20 a year. Now it’s $40 a year per camera. And if you decided to buy another one, they’ll bundle the payments before the year is up. They are crooks. No wonder the FTC just sued Ring. One year of service is all it took for me to toss these pieces crap away. Eff you Ring! Your cameras suck and you suck even more!!!

    very very interesting. I have a question to you> how about Ikea products? I bought a Homey only to find out that if I connect the remote from Ikea to Homey, I can no longer use the remote, wich is not a good option. Is there a way to do this ? Conect to Homey but at the same time still be able to use the physical remote?

    I submit to you that your video does not stress local control or privacy enough. Any smart home devices or plug choices should always be made with a goal of not being cloud dependent. Generally speaking Alexa and Google’s entire business model relies on data mining your personal information and personal data via their cloud servers. We have become so desensitized to this fact that privacy seems to play only a bit role in many smart home product reviews like yours. This should not be the case.

    You explain all this by assuming that there was a merger or buyout without solid planning. That is certainly what's happening and your conclusion is correct. The track record of mergers and buyouts overall is pretty terrible. I knew the stats when working for my MBA. I remembered they were so bad it was a wonder why anyone tried. But it is hope that springs eternal within the human breast. Most business leaders I met were certain they could do anything, no matter how many others had tried and failed. As long as a few can get rich making it work we will see businesses try again and again.

    Please NOTE, as of today a Ring subscription is $4.99/month or $49.99/year. The Google Nest will give you 3 hours of history for free. If you want longer history and often better quality / features for the money (without a ridiculous subscription) get the Eufy with base station, Lorex or Aosu doorbells, etc. Like many I started with a Ring. And $3 / month ($36 annually) seemed reasonable for a subscription. But as with everything else prices must go up. There is really no reason to pay for a subscription service when there are many really good video doorbell options that just don’t require it.

    Good point on the lighting. If you really want it smart you need smart switch thats not actually toggling the switch but sends toggle event to HA to do the rest. But that also means if HA dies youre out of lights.

  • @benwouda

    There are enough switches that control the relay behind the switch that keep working when your smarthome is offline or broken

  • @qapaMcFly
    @qapaMcFly2 ай бұрын

    @@benwouda Yeah but thats for dumb lights (not dimmable, color changing etc.) If you go this way with dimmable color changing etc. you will turn them on with the switch but will need to wait before they connect to change their color / dim them etc. Which kinda sucks.
