Vapor pressure for water is 23.8 mm Hg according to google table not 28.3 in your calculations. Should this be changed?

You are right, my discalcula hit and I transposed the numbers. I'll have to correct it. Fortunately the lab report has the engineering table with the correct values in it.

So whats formed?? Is that sodium zincate? Or zinc hydroxide?
@docireland8 ай бұрын
It is zinc hydroxide as long as you don't add excess sodium hydroxide, then you form the zincate.

I have 2 questions. How do you know whether you get the sig figs from the problem or the conversion factors? Cus u said 3 sig figs in the answer but wouldn’t it only be 1, because of the 1000g seeds? My second question is 270 isn’t 3 sig figs it’s only 2. Thank you!

First answer, your conversion factors are bounded by your problem data. For example, if your conversion factor was 12.3456 widgets per 1 wangdoodle, but the data in the problem data only has two significant figures, you could use 12.3 without affecting the final answer. I would always caution to use one more digit in this way, so as not to introduce rounding errors. Second, the conversion of 1 kg of seeds to 1000g seeds is exact, as are all metric conversions, and therefore do not affect significance. Finally, the final answer to three significant figures is 270, but you could make the zero explicitly significant by either writing it in scientific notation (2.70 × 10^2) or writing it as 270. to make it clearer.

I liked how you showed where to start in a problem like this. I never understood how to start.

I'm glad it helps. Dimensional analysis can be tricky when applied to more complex problems.

would we need to memorize the conversion factor?

In a chemistry class, basic conversions between SI/metric units are required knowledge.

How much time does it take to dissappear ?

It depends on the heat and quantity, but once you smell the ammonia off gassing it goes pretty quick.

THANK YOU! Great explanation, you helped me finally make sense of these types of problems.
