His motives, too. They perfectly reflect the Age of Reason theorized in history after there's "no need for gods" and individuals are respected equally, which paradoxically leads to total destruction for reasons like his, borne from not banding together before making big decisions like Klaus.

Pretty much, and I have a few thoughts on his whole “because it amuses me” reason. I don’t think Z was telling the truth and was using everything, to cover up the fact that he’s afraid of the destructive future. His whole aesthetic is that everything is a show and prefers fiction over reality, I feel like that proves that he’s not intending to be evil, but it’s the role he’s been given, so he’s trying to play it. Z is definirely underrated, all the same, whether or not this assumption is correct

@@dragontamer67Maybe meaning the same sort of writing style of 1 and 2 where some important things in the plot aren’t just left up to the interpretation of the player / characters. Seriously, this game hardly explained anything directly, so much so that the main characters doesn’t even know what the names of 'Bionis' and 'Alrest' are! We, as the audience, don’t know _exactly_ how Z came into existence other than 'he took over Origin when the worlds collided' and 'he is a concept', despite the fact that there are 2 characters in the game that the path talks to who could have explained Z in more detail. The black fog was *completely unexplained* despite its relevance to events of the game such as Moebius K, fighting Ethel, the annihilator cannon sequences and P&O's boss battle. That’s not very good when the previous 2 games explained or gave hints at the true nature of important phenomena within the world setting. X and Y's deaths are another oddity in 3. They’re *incredibly* lacklustre, since every other antagonist in the entire series had death cutscenes. The fact that X also comes out of nowhere to save N was utterly bizarre, it feels like he was saved by the power of the plot. They could even have played on that notion by having it be Z who appeared instead so that his 'fun' would not be disturbed. That at least would have shown him being active in the game, displaying his true power - the ability to unlink ouroboros - to the audience. Maybe the appearance of Z in that cutscene would have given N the idea to make a grand display of Mio's death at the homecoming, which Z could have then comfortably left X in charge of overseeing, giving her some of his power in the form of that staff she has. There is also a lack of consistency in 3 when compared to the worlds of 1 and 2 in that it is shown through the DLC of 3, prior to Origin activating in Alrest, that Zeke and Pandoria had a child. Pandoria having a child with Zeke makes Jin's point about how Blades cannot have legacies of their own entirely pointless, as Pandoria is a normal Blade and she gave birth to Linka. 2 very much implies in its story that Blades and humans are incompatible biologically and that a blade cannot produce offspring anyway, so this inconsistency is quite jarring and makes Jin seem foolish. There’s also odd design choices in 3. Most of the area concept art looks superior. The Origin amphitheatre's exterior area, for example, has a few concepts as shown in the art book, and almost all of them are so much more imposing and atmospheric to what was decided upon for the final game. Two of them have golden pillars, presumably information stores, outside of the amphitheatre. One of these two pillar designs straight up uses the Zohar design from Xenosaga, too. Instead, they decided to use random blue cubes. Are they core crystals? Are they something else? We don’t know, since the game doesn’t explain them. What we do know is that having Zohar-like pillar design for that area would have made more sense, since the DLC explains that Origin was made from the primary core of the trinity processor. It might seem like I’m rambling, but I was actually kind of disappointed by a lot of stuff in 3. This is just my assumption at the point @rolo2568 was trying to make.

@@paradox2210 Some points: - The lack of information about the world and the worlds prior is a pretty important part of the narrative, foundation-wise; It's heavily implied by several scenes that Z and the other Moebius are keeping a tight grip on any information regarding anything that isn't related to the constant war of Aionios between Keves and Agnus in order to maintain the status quo of the endless now; the people of Aionios have been withheld so much information about where they came from and who they actually are that there's literally a scene dedicated to the group basically recognizing how different they all look due to their separate racial characteristics, not to mention that they hardly know anything about the City, the Lost Numbers, or even aging for a good portion of the game. As for why characters aware of the previous worlds like Nia and Melia don't tell them the names of the worlds, it's likely they just didn't think it was vital information, considering that none of the Ouroboros had any actual connection to Alrest or Bionis. All they cared about was the fact that the worlds needed to be split and the cycle needed to be broken, not what they were called. - Z's existence is a bit vaguely explained, but there are honestly some pretty obvious context clues in the latter half of the game that explain he's essentially the manifestation of humanity's fear of change and the unknown future, and even if those aren't clear enough, the fact that the party basically spells this out for the cast after his face changes into all of theirs during the final boss fight should be enough. - The black fog is actually given a pretty decent explanation, considering it's pointed out numerous times that it's tied to the annihilation effect, which I'm pretty sure is explained in either the base game or the DLC as a byproduct of the two worlds collapsing in on each other--that's why it shows up a lot around extensive use of Interlinking, which is literally the fusion of two different worlds that grows unstable the more it's active. It's also pretty evident it's meant to be linked to the Fogbeasts from Future Connected, since those things are literally made of black fog. - This point I will agree with to an extent, I did also feel like X and Y's deaths were very underwhelming, though I think this is likely explained by their reappearance during the final boss fight, in which they're all but revealed to be extensions of Z rather than independent Moebius. Essentially, their deaths are underwhelming because they don't die, but maybe instead return to their source - I'm not really sure what you're talking about here, X had been hinted at prior to her appearing at the prison, since she appears to Shania and convinces her to betray the group. It's also pretty in character for her to interrupt Lanz and Sena's sacrifice--considering she's portrayed as pretty sadistic, she could be seeing it as a way to crush any sparks of hope the Ouroboros may have of beating Moebius. Z getting involved I'd argue is very out of character for him; the reason he spends the whole game in his theatre is because he sees the entire war as nothing but a spectacle for his amusement. He likely believes the Ouroboros are so beneath him that they aren't even worth the effort of coming all the way out there to stop them himself, and even if they did somehow manage to defeat N, he likely wouldn't care, it won't be that hard to find someone to take his place. Your suggestions also in my opinion neuter the agency of the other villains and their impact on the other scenes--the reason why X is a threat is because she can cancel Interlinks on her own, the reason N is so despicable is because he decides to go through with the Homecoming himself to crush Noah's spirit, not because Z gave either of them the ability or idea. - I'd argue that the presence of Linka doesn't ruin the consistency of the worlds in any sense. First off, I really don't think Pandoria can be qualified as a "normal Blade," since she's the only Blade we know of with a direct connection to a Titan. Zeke also isn't a normal human, as he was made a Blade Eater using Pandoria's Core Crystal, and we have what is essentially confirmation of a biological Human-Blade hybrid in Mio and Glimmer, who are heavily suggested to be Rex's children with Nia and Pyra, respectively. I'll concede that Nia is a Flesh Eater and half-human anyway and that Aegises basically break all Blade rules, but even then Alrestian technology clearly progressed rapidly in the time between Xeno2 and Xeno3, considering they were able to build Origin--who's to say they didn't develop a method of Blades and humans having children? As for Jin's "legacy" comment, I don't fully remember the context but he's likely referring more to the fact that a Blade will always revert, lose their memories, and remain inactive for who knows how long, and so will always leave the stories of their time in the world in the dust - I honestly really like the fact the theatre is just a theatre, as it highlights how little Z actually cares about what he's doing to the world; like I mentioned earlier, this is just a day at the matinee to him. This isn't his Ultimate Final Boss Palace of Destiny, it's just where he comes to enjoy the spectacle of watching the world burn over and over again. And I would think the Core Crystal-looking cubes are pretty obviously meant to be Core Crystals; Origin is supposed to house the consciousnesses of every lifeform on both worlds, and while they don't outright explain how they managed through that process, the understanding from Xeno2 that Core Crystals originally were used to store data and the large presence of Core Crystal-like cubes in the deepest part of Origin paints a pretty clear picture: the constructors of Origin used a modified version of Core Crystal technology to house the consciousnesses of Alrest and Bionis's populations, converted into data, within the vessel. This is supported by the fact that basically every Agnian in the game is shown to have some kind of crystal on their body, much like a Blade, which was likely a necessary step in getting everyone into Origin. If I'm being totally honest, it just sounds like a lot of your problems could have been solved if you just paid a teensy bit more attention. Xenoblade 3 definitely holds its cards a bit tighter to its chest than the previous games, you're definitely not wrong there, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It just means you get to take what the game does give you and draw your own conclusions about what it's trying to say, which in my opinion is one of the most beautiful stories and messages I've seen in a video game. I personally really enjoyed being able to speculate on the symbolism behind things like the Ouroboros and Moebius's relationship to the cycle of the world or how certain characters are written and portrayed, and I hope that if you give the game another try, you can find things like that to appreciate :D

7:53 Once we part ways would’ve been so perfect for this scene instead of the already established 3 music. It would’ve felt so nostalgic and making a rough moment so much more bittersweet and hopeful. Making an already full circle moment with Alpha from Zanza in 1 even more complete with Shulk and A’s mutual support that they’ve had from the beginning in different forms, and the trio’s departure from reality for now being reminiscent to the world being reset back then once. Full circle goodbye, and nostalgia done right.
