    Any tips on how you got the 2 sides up into place? we tried for a very long time and it seemed like the width tolerance was too tight and could not get it all shoved up high enough for far enough to the rear of the car. Quite frustrating

    I think it makes sense for workplaces and multi family dwellings as well. Maybe not installing stations, but outlets designated for level 1 charging in some places may be just enough to open up easy access to EV ownership to more people who do not have access to home charging. Designating some outlets for level 1 charging is so cheap to do that it just makes sense, certainly wouldn’t be very useful for a grocery store, etc. though.

  • @0e-michigan
    @0e-michigan Жыл бұрын

    I totally agree! My first workplace charging was Level 2, but with a 20 mile round trip commute, I could have gotten that back in 6 hours, i.e. less than a full work day. While the AC charging power capability of onboard chargers in most vehicles is now escalating to 48 - 80 A (11.5 - 19,2 KW), Level 1 is still relevant in many cases. Orange Charger even makes a smart outlet focused on multi-dwelling units so that apartment and condo owners can offer EV charging without an expensive networked Level 2 system. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWmXw8GDk6u7iZM.html

    I'm not a lawyer, so I can't really comment on that. I do know that this is my 5th EV and I have yet to need to look into battery warranties. My oldest is a 2015 Tesla Model S with 122K on the odometer and over 90% of its original range. I mostly use my hitch for a bike rack and not towing.

    Great video on a "Regional Road Trip! I look forward to you doing a video of a cross country trip in your Bolt, from perhaps Grand Rapids 1200 miles in one direction to a destination of your choice and then back. Let's say do that cross country trip in January or February and then chronicle that trip. It would be quite informative.

    In this video he was using a level 2, j1772 charger. That's like you use at home if attached to a 240 outlet. Ev go, electrify america, charge point and the others are DC fast chargers which are faster and cost more. You pretty much need to use them on a road trip. Keep in mind Bolts are about as slow of a fast charger there is. Charging etiquette say only use the 350 amp chargers if none of the slower ones are available. Leave them for the cars that can make use of their power output. You can only take in about 50 amps so a slower one is just as good for you.

  • @karlbloss
    @karlbloss Жыл бұрын

    Good points! In this case, I chose to use a Level 2 charger since I had easy access to it and I was able to charge while running my errands. Certainly for longer road trips you would want to use DC Fast Chargers. You're absolutely right about using the right chargers. At an Electrify America station with 2 - 350 KW chargers and 2 -150 KW chargers, it's good etiquette to use one of the 150 KW chargers since the Bolt charges at about 50 KW peak and one should leave the higher power chargers for those vehicles that can benefit from those. Also, Electrify America often only has one charger with a CHAdeMO cable that Nissan LEAFs can use rather than the CCS cables other vehicles do. I can do another road trip video using DCFCs with the Bolt next time I need to take a longer trip.

    What others charge Bolts? Ev Go or what are the names? Electrify America or something 🤔

  • @karlbloss
    @karlbloss Жыл бұрын

    The Bolt EV will charge at any Level 2 charger with a J1772 plug (as opposed to a Tesla Destination Charger; you need an adapter for the latter) and any DC Fast Charger with a CCS plug. The most prevalent charging networks in Michigan are ChargePoint, Electrify America, Red E, Shell Recharge, and Blink. You can look ahead to see which network a charger is on along your route using www.plugshare.com or the associated smartphone app. I recommend that app for finding charging, then use the charging network app to activate the charger. In this video I used the Shell Recharge app for that location (www.plugshare.com/location/270980).

    Your video was very helpful. Thanks. I'm getting a Torklift for my 2022 Kia Niro EV. My only concern, as I'm sure you've heard, is the impact to my warranty. Kia says it will void the warranty for the drive train and that includes the battery. A random Kia rep isn't the best source though. Have you dug up any solid info on this issue? Thanks again for the video.

    That's a free L3 charger? Nice... And that LEAF is year 2016 SV/SL? That's a 30kWh battery LEAF then, so on full charge it should show about 120 miles range, no?

  • @karlbloss
    @karlbloss4 жыл бұрын

    Unfortunately it's not free anymore. It's now $0.30/kWh. Yes, It's a 30 kWh LEAF, but it's partially degraded. Also, on the highway, the guess-o-meter shows lower range after driving highway speeds.

    @@karlbloss Did you get the BMS update that may recover those lost capacity bars? I find that slight inclines eat into the GOM more than speed, but speed over 60mph does use a lot more energy...

  • @karlbloss
    @karlbloss4 жыл бұрын

    @@be236 yes, the BMS update was done. I got some capacity back, but it has already degraded again to 83% SOH which means 11 capacity bars shown on the screen.

    Nice video. The 40 kWh is a nice car and I would recommend it.. Getting 150-160 on a full charge makes a road trip a much better time, while still leaving the car nimble. I think it is a sweet spot, especially after having a previous lower range leaf.

  • @karlbloss
    @karlbloss5 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the note. I've decided to buy out my lease and then I have options. I might trade mine for a used 40 kWh when the depreciation on those drops. When I upgraded from the 24 kWh to the 30, I also noticed a huge difference in useable range.

    Hi. thanks for sharing. I'm curious why the Chargepoint fill-up was "free"? Is it some deal from Nissan because of your lease? thanks.

  • @karlbloss
    @karlbloss5 жыл бұрын

    So far, Meijer must be absorbing the cost of this particular station. The ChargePoint card activates a session and they're still free. www.plugshare.com/location/187044

  • @DaveLaur
    @DaveLaur5 жыл бұрын

    Have you tracked your temperature bars. On my 2018, they are rather consistent. With RapidGate, I have determined most efficient charging happens when batt temps start around 85º F. daveinolywa.blogspot.com/2019/05/temperature-bars-on-leaf.html I think your drive was a bit conservative combined with QCs simply not being in the right spot. Good weather would have allowed the trip as well. Are all Chargepoints free there or is it just certain ones?

  • @karlbloss
    @karlbloss5 жыл бұрын

    Yes, there were lots of variables, but that ChargePoint DCQC does enable quite a few trip options. For now, it's still free, presumably with the cost being absorbed by the adjacent Meijer. If it's like the ChargePoint stations in Kansas City, they're free for a while and then they pass on the cost to the end user. www.plugshare.com/location/187044
