About me: Danny (Dundee) Williams. I have been around small airplanes all my life. Both my parents were pilots. In fact my first flight was in a 1956 Cessna 172 flown by my Father while my Mom held onto me. That was in 1961 and I was one year old. The first time I remember actually flying an airplane was when I was 10 years old. My Dad put me in the front seat of his 65Hp Aeronca Champ. I was 28 when I took my first formal flying. My log book shows that I had 2.3 hours of flight training when the instructor let me solo for the first time. This was a testament to how much time I had spent before then flying with my Dad and brother. I don't think any flight instructor would let that happen today, but I spent the next 3.3 hours solo, doing circuits at our local airport. My first airplane was a J3 Cub, then a Cessna 180 that I flew for 16 years. But the lure of a Cub never leaves you so I went back to a cub. Hope you enjoy the ride.

I want to see the trailer landing
That was an interesting thing to see. ✔️
Thanks for the information
Never knew - great!
Nice toy box. I was impressed when I saw the block and tackle hanging from the ceiling. I noticed your Mag switch, do you have duel impulse couplings?
Nice floatplane !
Excellent
I am very surprised that you can fly inside a nature reserve. In Spain this would be cause for a very large fine. A few can be flown over at no less than 400 m (about 1,310 ft). I have always been surprised by the freedom of bushpilots in Canada (and USA).
Great information and a very beautiful site!
❤❤❤
Great to learn of this. Dad was a Sask Air Ambulance pilot, RCAF etc. Just shy of 17000 hours. I don't believe he ever did any float plane flying but I could be wrong. I know he used snowski's at times.

What no landings
Like porn, it starts in the middle.
I would re-angle that exhaust so that it is not cooking your bungee covers!! Beautiful Cub. She looks like a wonderful preformer!!
What a cool wing jig/hanger system. Nice job!!!
Video would be so much better with just airplane noise and no music!! Just saying.
The problem with these cubs is they just fly. This entire video shows a pilot trying to land. This plane hate landing so it just soars. .... but he does eventually land.
Nice to see GLDS again. A friend of mine used to own her.
Why dont you shut that stupid fu--king music off you f--king idiot?
I am surprised it doesn't damage the floats.
It certainly can if you are not careful, never on a gusty day. No real flare, I fly it onto the ground as slowly as possible. North Star stalls at 25. Thanks for you comment.
😎
Nice 1!
Thanks Mitchy
Your videos are always top notch. Great fun to watch. Great music choice, too!
Thanks for your comment and kind words, I'm glad you are enjoying them.
Spent nearly every weekend for 6 summers camping on Beausoleil Island as a kid in the early/mid 90s. Haven't had a chance to re-visit in nearly 30 years so I really enjoy seeing the area from the air in your videos. Seeing a float plane takeoff between the islands one weekend back then sparked my interest in aviation. One day I'd like to visit the area by air, until then thanks for sharing your experiences.
Thanks for your comment and kind words, I hope you make it back to the area someday. Happy flying.
May I suggest some explanation in the video on what's happening - eg. what's the take off speed, did he hit the truck, what are they discussing, are they in radio contact etc. Either by putting captions in the frame, or even better narrate it. And turn down the music - way down. 🙂
Hi Peter, thanks for your comments, and great suggestions. It's always nice to get some constructive feedback. We will be shooting another trailer takeoff this May and I will incorporate your suggestions. To answer your questions; the takeoff speed was 70 kts (normal takeoff for Cessna 180 is 55 kts, we can do this because the aircraft is positioned on the trailer with a much lower angle of attack than normal), although it may have looked like it, there was no chance of hitting the truck, we were discussing at what speed to lift off the trailer, I am in direct radio contact with the vehicle driver. Check out "Floatplane Trailer Takeoff - No Music for the version without music. Cheers.
@@flyingdundee43 Thanks. Really - 70 kts? It looked like half of that. Well, the music is okay as background filler, but low key unless you want to say something or drown something out with it. And perhaps better to turn it off or way down when relevant sound is at hand. I'll keep an eye out in May. 😊
Why only apply flaps at rotation speed?
Hello Ricardo, good question. On a normal ground roll you can accelerate faster without flaps. However this is not necessary for a trailer takeoff. But for trailer takeoffs the aircraft is positioned with a nose down attitude because liftoff is at a higher than normal speed (about 10 knots higher) and you don’t want the aircraft to start to float before reaching this speed. If you have flaps on during the roll you have a greater risk of moving on the trailer before you are ready to takeoff. So flaps are pulled on at rotation. However I have learned they should be pulled on more slowly than in this video due to the weight of a 180. Hope this answers your question. Cheers from Canada.
@@flyingdundee43 Wow, really interesting and makes perfect sense also seems quite fun. Thanks for the explanation and happy flying from Portugal!
I am from Uruguay, no pilot. I wonder if the aircraft controls respond normally when taking off this way, i e. speed indicator etc ?
Hello Ivan, thank you for your comment. Yes the aircraft controls and instruments operate exactly the same as they do during a normal takeoff. Cheers from Canada.😁
Great Video and love the music
Thanks for your comment Jay, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Seems like only yesterday when you were taking off the floats! Ah, well - I welcome spring!!
Smooth landings!
💪
😎
Great camera work.
Great video - thanks!
Great flying and editing. ✈️ 🎉 🎶Also wonderful music selection (once again :) 🎶 Who's the artist, and what's the song?
Hey Thom, thanks for your comments, glad you liked it. The song is called "Nothin to Win" by Roy Williams. Cheers.
oh when it settled after leaving the trailer, my heart skipped a beat.
Hi Jarod, thanks for your comment. The video made the sink look much worse than it was. Cheers.
@@flyingdundee43 That's good. I had flashbacks to learning to fly. In the midwest, we get used to flying with wind and lots of it. You'll have a gust one second that lifts you off the runway and then it goes away. I miss flying. Haven't flown in 15+ years.
very cool !
Those arial selfie stick pictures are amazing
Livin' the dream!
😎
I guess I need to move to Canada 🇨🇦 😂
Sooo cool. Vr was achieved thanks to an f150 lol
Nice. Is that a ski area in the background?
Hi there, yes it is. It is the Blue Mountain ski area near Collingwood, Canada. Thanks for your comments.
Lovely.
Thank you
Like to see them try something like that with a PBY.
Buttery smooth. If you ever decide to puddle jump down to Puslinch lake, come say hi! I'll be on the dredging barge.
Will keep that in mind. I’ve flown into your lake years ago. Thanks for the comment
I didn’t know the flap trick.
Thanks for taking the time to do the engine sounds version. Super cool.
