@smaugtheterrible50212 жыл бұрын
If anyone was curious about the real way things happened on that glorious day. He didn’t snatch the crown from the pope. It was clear to all parties that the pope would be window dressing ONLY for the ceremony. He entered the cathedral wearing a gold laurel crown & held the “crown of Charlemagne” above his own head, but didn’t wear it as he was already wearing the laurels. He did however place a crown on her head that fit inside the tiara she was already wearing.
@thunderbird19212 жыл бұрын
It wasn't really window dressing though, remember the pope did the anointing and handed Napoleon the crown, even if he did put it on his own head. This symbolically showed that church and state were perfectly balanced and in harmony, though separate.

This moment is almost ALWAYS misunderstood or misrepresented. Napoleon WASN'T rejecting the church, far from it.
