This was so good! My pain point as a project manager in an interior design business is the "construction phase". It varies so much depending on which company/trade you hire (like one electrician costs so much more than another) or the types of problems that come up in a typical renovation. When a client gives an overall budget... they really do mean overall... but often the design fees take up a LOT of that number. Is this just a matter of educating clients on how much money things actually cost? Is there a framework for rough numbers for things like electrical/plumbing? I think sometimes that part just really freaks clients out. They pay us for our services, and then they realize they have to fork over another $15k to pay the tradespeople. As the PM that's totally on me to figure out... I'm just not sure how!

Love how Ellen covers timeless marketing principles in such an engaging manner. Favorite point - marketing is about joining the conversation that is happening in their heads. The diagram at 25:3 is gold! 80/20 takeaway: As part of identifying ideal customer avatar - analyze your ideal client's ability to pay (ATP) & eagerness to pay (ETP). To identify ATP, revenue and number of employees are definitely good indicators. For the online business space, I would personally analyze their business models. Look at their websites. E.g. For OBMs, would you rather work with a client who offers one-off coaching sessions or one who offers 6/12 month coaching program with plans to add additional revenue streams? Another approach is to trust buying behaviour. Does your ideal client invest in coaching programs? Are they paying for marketing services? Think of WHO serves your ideal client and build referral partnerships with them. This could be copywriters, personal brand experts, business coaches, etc. For ETP, it's a lot more tricky. Most people probably never heard of OBM or thought they needed one. For OBMs, it's important for them to already have a delegation mindset. For new/aspiring OBMs, following Prowess's advice on niching down at least 3x is a good start. Niching up makes sense when it's time to scale. In terms of marketing, I think it's best to not to reinvent the wheel and study what works for successful OBMs serving the same niche. All in all, it's true that OBMs only need a few clients. Client retention is definitely key. Marketing is still a non-negotiable activity.

You will want to build out that task list and set your automation to add based on a setting such as a tag or checked field. For example, you could add a column that is a single select field for task types and when a specific type is set like "start now" it adds to your task list.

I love good old fashioned pen and paper to take notes. It seems to create connections in my brain. Evernote is my fave tech note solution for cloud storage, sharing, organizing, etc. But that’s because I started with it and have used it for years. I’m curious and open to new things. I’m currently playing around with Notion.

I was researching project management for interior designers and this video came in the feed. This is so informative and helpful! I’m a newbie & created my Interior styling firm last year and this got me on track‼️ From presentation to back office with Asana, etc. The time you take to explain everything was much appreciated. I look forward to being a subscriber and this being a resource as I grow. Also, once I get my traction going we want to give back as you did my helping the next person. That is very important to me, giving back‼️
