Holy crap. I've been looking for this for three decades. I heard this on (I think) B-93 in Austin at the start of the first Iraq war. I was sitting at work in Waco and had to drop everything. I have always wondered who did this. It just floored me. Thank you for putting it here :)

I only learned of the Dark Days movie through the comments here. I started to watch it, but had to stop. Why watch something you live through every single day? It's when he descends into the dark void that made me stop. I don't understand allowing someone to film your secret place. Were the offered something in exchange for access? Homeless people are very protective of their spaces. Why show the whole world? It is a huge risk to personal safety. Homelessness does not equate to fearlessness. Nobody would ever go down there to cause trouble? "Nobody in their right mind?" would dare? That is not good enough, and every homeless person knows it It's false assurance, a false confidence in security, it's hope, self-talk, something to tell yourself in order to fall asleep at night. God loves you, and He wakes you every morning? Veteran homeless people would have at some point thought: "Thank God I was not attacked while I slept." But thank whatever, thank whoever, the only thing you can truly trust to watch over you is yourself. Even if you have no friends, no fam, and God is all you have in life, your only ally, why allow a camera crew to film your sanctuary? Are we hoping for some miracle? Surely someone will save me if only I could explain myself!? Obviously the filmmakers influenced these guys in some way. It's how we operate as humans, we get taught how to convince others to think a certain way. And homeless people are usually very alert to snake oil promises, misdirection, bad deals, and anyone who isn't in their circle of trust. The homeless life is full of potential danger, pitfalls not of our own making. And we are usually very aware of the mistakes that lead to our situation. We all know why, and often turn any blame inward, curse ourselves when we fuck up, same as last time... But even if these filmmakers' motives were actually sincere, perhaps to draw attention to some specific government plan that failed, or just to freedom-seek and speak up when most are incapable or uninterested,... the opponent, being the influencer/oppressor/hater/authority is so super-guarded, super-invested, super-power hungry, super-influencing, supe society's everyday fears. Yes, If you sleep in a crazy place, the harm comes from crazy people. Life is absurd. Your friends will protect you down there? Maybe. But how about up there? Don't be so afraid of life everyone.

You could put this section out today, in 2023, & it’d be a banger. Louie had some of the best style ever. One of my all-time favorite skaters.
