If you feel like trying something faster than pinning you can outline the pattern with chalk or washable marker.

Videos don't help you! You need someone to go step by step n show you in person. People just have different ways of learning! Don't get to hard on yourself. I know all about crying in frustration! As a female welder... I know all to well having the knowledge but not the ability! Sometimes just seeing someone do it isn't enough. Your not alone. Sometimes just putting it down n trying again later helps. Sometimes just tossing it in the bin feels better

Most of us would fall at these things to. The Internet just creates such high expectations that are rarely achieved! Even things that maybe look extremely easy may not be. The point is to encourage not criticize.

Ant that is bloody brilliant for a person who hasn’t sewing lessons. I had lessons and it’s better than I could make my lovely. Seeing you so proud of it is wonderful and rightly so that you should be so chuffed with yourself. You have done yourself proud. ❤ How is your nose now ? All healed I hope and what were the lab results nothing horrible I hope ? I can’t wait to see what you make next sweetie ❤❤ 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

So so proud of you! You're really learning so much! Also agreed that stuff you make yourself is always better and more special than anything you can buy Great work remembering to add hemlines to the pattern, and to start cutting at the edges of the fabric! You did a great job connecting the lining and awesome work remembering the double fold hem on the lip of the bag! I'd say putting the more waterproof layer on the inside was the right choice. Just makes more sense usually for the handles, you can always do a top stitch along each side of them to sew them flat, if that makes sense. Normally you could iron them too but not sure if this fabric would melt or not Pins are tough, I never got the hang of them so I use clips too. Even my friend who is good at pinning prefers the clips for a lot of things We have a needle cheat sheet for what needles to use with what fabric. I could always send that to you on Instagram if you like! Also congrats on your nose thing being removed! I hope it never comes back

Oh good, I thought, he's got the sewing machine out again. Sorry, typo, I meant 'Oh God!!' 😜 I think you'd need a special 'foot' for your sewing machine, called a walking foot, for that type of material (oil cloth I think it is from your description). Great thinking and working out stuff out, and doing the prep. You did an AMAZING job Ant. Agree re the handles, but who cares! You made that bag yourself, and it's FAB. Off to Tesco you go for some posh apples lol

I love it! it came out so good Ant! you did right making the more rigid/waterproof fabric the liner. you want it to do the work of keeping things from leaking and keeping any messes that could potentially happen out of sight. and the outer shell stays pretty and shows no sign of the chaos inside. Kinda like us anxious people! lol! My first ever unsupervised sewing project was a set of puffy valance curtains back in the day lol. Great job Ant!! Oh! ETA: for your patterns, use large tracing paper, it's thinner and more flexible and easier to work with.

It looks fabulous! I love the little trim matching the handles. I'm so impressed with how you're figuring out all the mechanics as you go, rather than using a pattern. I can't wait to see what you make next! Now if you want to take it to the next level, if you have identical pieces to cut out, rather than cut them all out individually, you can layer or stack the fabric and cut them all out at the same time! But beware: if it's a piece that has a shape that isn't symmetrical, you will need to worry about right side and wrong side of the fabric. But once you figure that out, it will make the cutting part a lot faster!
