My dad had an 8-track tape of Tony Mottola's "Romantic Guitar" in his 1966 Lincoln Continental and we'd listen to it driving from Chicago to Grand Rapids, MI. Just as classy and beautiful today as it was 58 years ago.

An all too often overlooked guitar virtuoso. My Mom's favorite guitarist and was often heard in our home when I was a young boy. Just as smooth today as ever. Yes all the LP's are still there at Mom's house.

found this vinyl in my grandfather old AV room when he passed, I installed the recordplayer, the AV system for the player, and the speakers in my room. This was the first record I ever heard on vinyl. And I'll never forget it... thank you grandad. I wish we got to listen together

I first heard Mottola as a kid hearing "beautiful music" FM radio stations on my dad's hi-fi ('60s, '70s).. I was always impressed by the beautiful chords and the sound he had.. Since then I've become a jazz musician, 35 yrs on sax and the last 10 yrs on guitar. It's now, after exposure to guys like Johnny Smith, Barney Kessel, Joe Pass, etc., that I can go back and fully appreciate what Mottola played.. Jazz purists may dismiss this stuff as "corny" or "fluff", but I can tell you that's BS.. It's virtuosic conception, feel and harmonic sense.. Most casual listeners can better appreciate a beautiful melody, well played, then playing encumbered by millions of notes, dissonant chords and a lot of cerebral advanced theory that's over most non-musicians' heads. And since it's mainly the casual listeners (or not even!) who hire you to play, as well as who put the money in your tip jar, then why not?
