Can you show me how you learned and practiced for a year?
@adamhowemusic2 ай бұрын
I love that question! I would like to make a whole video on that someday, but in the meantime the gist is that I have been playing guitar my whole life, but it had been many years since I played much. I got inspired and wanted to do this series, and when I started learning melodies I sucked real bad haha. I couldn't get through even one part of one song without clunky lame mistakes. I have done tons of finger exercises, etc. throughout my life, but this time I didn't do any of that at all. Literally all I did for an entire year was learn melodies (mostly by ear) and play along to the actual songs and to the backing tracks of the songs, trying to come up with interesting ways to arrange the melodies, and trying to get through the songs without mistakes. I just played them over and over and over. If anyone could hear me do it, I'm sure it would have been quite annoying haha. It took a long long time to get to where I was performance ready, and I still work on the melodies to the upcoming songs constantly, so that I can get through a video recording/performance without tooo many takes (but there are always too many takes anyway haha). That said, I am itching to get back to other forms or practice like scales and stuff and learning how to shred better and stuff. But for the past 2 years its literally just been all about melodies. Thank you for asking, and for listening to the covers! Have a great week!
@HunnysPlaylists2 ай бұрын
@@adamhowemusic Can you show me how you figured them out and practiced? I want to do it too!
@adamhowemusic2 ай бұрын
That is also an excellent question, but much harder to answer. How I personally learned these songs was a process of listening and playing along and finding the notes, then figuring out how to try and make it musical and fun. That sometimes takes days, but usually weeks or months for each song. But how I did that part is basically just a lifetime of studying and playing music at music colleges and in lots of bands, etc. and is hard to bottle into a quick answer. Have you tried doing any ear training? It helps you learn how to identify notes when you hear them, and coupled with a tiny bit of knowledge of music theory, things start to make more sense and get easier. Do you have a music/guitar teacher of any sort that you could ask for help with that? Or perhaps look up online courses on ear training. That is basically the key to how I did this series. My best advice would be start with one song, something you are excited about, and see if you can try and hear what the notes are. If not, try and find videos of people doing an instrumental version and see if you can tell what they are playing, even if it is just part of a a song at first. Then have fun playing it and trying to make it sound good, and get inspired to learn the next part, even if it takes w while. All the time you invest into learning something builds up and makes the next thing easier. I wish I had a better answer than that. Thank you for the question and for your support! Have fun jamming!

@@adamhowemusic How did you learn ear training?
@adamhowemusic2 ай бұрын
I started trying to learn stuff by ear pretty early on in my playing, and at first it seems daunting. But the more you do it the easier it gets. In music school ear training is a huge part of the curriculum, and I was one of those nerds who loved it haha. I also taught guitar lessons for may years, and back then students would often bring in cd's of songs they wanted to learn, and I had 30 mins to try and figure it out and teach them, so I was forced to get better at it from that as well. It''s one of those things that seems like magic, but can totally be developed by just doing it a lot. As for getting started, I would recommend looking up videos on ear training for beginners, and just jump in and see what happens. Let me know how it goes if you give it a try. Have fun!

Thank you Yusif! Yeah, I completely know what you mean. In fact I can think of a few things that when I first heard it I actually disliked it a lot, and then after listening more it became some of my favorites. Weird how things work like that. Musical/artistic taste is an evolving process, and I guess we are only ready for certain things when the time is right. Have a great week, and thank you very much for your support. It means a lot to me.
