The mining spacecraft would likely need power plants that provide enough power to make them larger than oversized toys. A suitable nuclear reactor might take 30 years to develop then another 10 to 20 years to get into space and assembled . The spacecraft then has to be built around it. That is a lot of time for a single spacecraft to be built to start mining operations in space. Perpetual motion magnetic engines that generate electricity to power the spacecraft would be a good idea. However no such thing exists because that is an impossibility. RIGHT? Nudge nudge wink wink. The cost factor of launching everything we will need from any planet is too much. And there's a lot of work to do. This planet has 2 Huge problems, we have run out of available land that can be developed in agriculture to grow more food. The biggest problem is US. Humans are devouring everything and making our world a wasteland. We need to go...but where? There are no known Earth-like planets even near us. The only options that are available for use are right here in our solar system, now we just need to give all t governments with t technology for spaceflight a collective Kick in the Ass! Yes, but there is a sizable expense, along with added risks involved with an asteroid capture, but it can be done.
