Imagine Trump in this situation. He'd call the satellite photos fake news, tell the media Khrushchev had assured him there are no nuclear weapons there, then call Castro and ask him if he has any dirt on the Bidens.

These were ADULTS. Flawed yes but serious, mature and tempered by adversity. Realists. The greatest generation.

my grandfather told a story about being sent to Cuba during the missile crisis where he saw silos already established there on land. I don't remember much about what he said but i remember him talking about being in Cuba at the time and that he saw and possibly inspected the silos there but I'm not 100% sure on the exact details because he wasn't talking directly to me and I was young and tired after a long day on vacation.

Imagine if Biden or Trump had either of these great men to talk to. Honestly, they would be to arrogant to pick up the phone. This was a better time.

So much respect between them. Kennedy recognized the need to hear and take in what Eisenhower had to say. And explain the situation and listen to his input. Now we have perversion taking over a party. Not that Republicans are that much better.

Just 20 years later, despite having very similar political beliefs with Goldwater who was portrayed as an extremist by the media at the time, he was only 3,761 votes away from sweeping every single state in the country. All because of his pure charisma and oratory skills. What a chad!

Between John Kennedy's orator skills and Theodore Sorensen's speech writing, they make one want to stand up and shout from the rooftops, "I'm an American." ~ “He was a man, take him for all in all... I shall not look upon his like again.” ― Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet

How surreal it must be to speak to your former commanding officer in the war AND former commander and chief only 20ish years later as HIS commander and chief. God the 20th century was unbelievable

I wonder what he would think of today's American with Presidents like Trump and Biden who now sit in that great office. This is part of that unlevel playing field he was teying to level and they killed him for that and other things as well. RIP Mr President 🙏

The way the story is usually told is that Khruschev spoke to his advisors and told them what he had agreed to: withdrawing the missiles in exchange for our promise not to invade Cuba. They pressed him to ask for the additional condition that we withdraw OUR missiles from Turkey. Instear of agreeing to that, we went public with the original agreement, and pretended that that was the agreed upon settlement -- that we had never RECEIVED the communication with the additional condition regarding our Turkish missiles.

What a lovely tribute to Rose Kennedy. She might not have ever reached the position of being one of America's first ladies, but she's deserving of her own title as a true American Matriarch, who made an immense contribution towards sustaining the glory of her nation.
