    Thanks but ewww... I can't believe you sprayed it with lubricant without cleaning or wiping the track door first.

    Good video but I wouldn’t add lubricant. Typically, because the door is exposed to the elements outside it gets a lot of dirt, dust, pollen, etc., and all of that just attaches to the lubricant and eventually turns into a thick gunky mess that gets stuck in every nook and cranny of the rail system and door. Once that happens, you’re gonna have to work a whole lot harder to fix that door.

    The same thing happened to me, I made the slamming noise, and it makes the same noise from the motor but my torsion spring and cables are still fine, so I don’t know what’s wrong

    Me neither! I spent 15 minute and lots of strenuous arm movement with no luck and then came to KZread and found his clips. Thank you man! My screen door is back in alignment!

    This vid was extremely helpful… It’s been years since I replaced the sliding screen door and I totally forgot about those adjustment access points. It makes sense that after years of use it goes out of alignment & starts sticking.👍🪛↔️

    This just happened to me today. Letting a professional fix it for sure, but I thought I could manually disconnect it, and there was so much tension on the cable it really snapped back and hurt my hand. Scared me quite a bit. Just a warning, just don't touch anything!

    Thanks ! I lubed the tracks but it didn’t help. Noticed the screws used on the tracks stick out a lot but can’t be driven in deeper. But decided to look up a fix that might not require changing out the screws. This helps a lot! You’ve helped a busy mom of 2 ❤

    What type of lubricant do you use to help the screen door slide better?

  • @gilesmf
    @gilesmf10 ай бұрын

    I use a bar of soap. You can also use candle wax. It lasts longer than WD40.

    Spray lube will attract dust & dirt.

  • @WhenImBackInChicago
    @WhenImBackInChicago9 ай бұрын

    Apply a thin coat of non-stick silicone lubricant to the top, and bottom, of the door track, and bit in the door frame, where the glass door latches. Clean-up any overspray, to avoid a slippery floor. Use a non-stick silicone lubricant, on vinyl-door tracks. If you have wood tracks, opt for a hard wax, such as candle wax, or beeswax instead of spray lubricant. If you’re ever unsure, or don’t have the right product on hand, there are specific door-track lubricants available at your local hardware store. Avoid oil-based lubricants, as these tend to attract more dirt than anything else, as you stated. 🙂

    I didn't get an idiot sign on my torsion springs, so I'm gonna try fixing mine. I'm still looking for the proper size torsion springs that are a decent price. I'll also be replace the middle bearing, and replacing the 2 end bearing plates. I can't wait to take it on.

    What kind of metal lubricant is best? Regular WD-40 or the Silicone version? Or ordinary 3-in-One? I saw you used a spray but couldn’t see the brand or type. Sorry if this has already been answered. I searched in comments but didn’t see the answer. Thanks!!

    If your sliding screen door fell apart like mine and needed metal corner braces to hold it together, I discovered that the best screws to use on the braces are computer screws because they are short with big heads and are meant for metal. By computer screws, I mean the ones used to close the case or attach a hard drive or hold in a video card. I tried tiny wood screws but the heads strip and the corner was unstable.

    The real problem is these door screens are PURE JUNK! The roller design hasn't changed in probably decades. The rollers are flimsy and will dry out and crack eventually and the spring is just a crap piece of metal. Also the adjustment screw rarely works also. I think I made my point. A lot of the tracks are also just cheap plastic. I have 8 sets of sliding glass doors and ALL of them have screwed up screens. I have one that I have spent hours adjusting and it will hold the adjustment for a few weeks and then go right back to sticking. And all of them are less than a year old. Just a terrible design. Cheap junk!
