We had poles set by the phone company. In the completion each contestant was given a short grade stake and a string of setblength. They placed their stake out the length of the string from the base of their pole. They fell their pole and tried to drive in their gradecstake.

In Warner New Hampshire on Columbus Day weekend we had our firewood Olympics. We had one event where the contestants had a pile of cut to length rounds. They had to split the rounds with a sponsors splitting maul then their splits had to be put through a reinforced hole in a sheet of ply wood. The two contestants each had a hopper on a teeter totter, when time was called, the scale like teter titer would judge the winner. We had one event where you had to load a wheel barrow fron 16 feet away . We had a firewood toss where you tried to see how many splits you could land in a ring. The ring was set farvenough away to make the event entertaining. We hadbone event where you cut down through a beach log then up through then bored your tip through the log, all within set marks. Then you had to cut down through a trough of beach sand madebout of beach planks. You were given a place to sharpen your saw, then you again had to make the three cuts through the beach log.

Last week I did a mobile splitting job. Did a splitting job for him last fall and sold him domr firewood. I trusted him to pay me the amount due for my services that day, so I waited until I was miles away to count the money. He paid a little extra, so I got hold of him to let him know he paid me too much. He said it was a tip. I graciously thanked him for it.
