I'm curious to know how a recording like this was made at the time. Was it just a reel to reel recorder?

That's really lovely. Whad a treyshur, me buey! I came across this while researching" The War Horse"by Michale Morpurgo, for a group of home schooled children in Torbay, Devon. Your dad had a lovely accent and it was great to hear it. I have family now living in Bideford, Black Torrington and Holsworthy (both my brothers are milkers on local farms)and it always surprises me how many still speak with the Devon burr... we don't hear it much this end. Looking forward to a visit to Iddesleigh to see the farm. All the best. Vee in Devon.
