Just curious, what was the temperature, mileage/elevation covered, and what could you have done differently to avoid heat exhaustion in retrospect? Good on you for turning back and calling it.

@@KidsIdaho mid 90’s…I covered 11 miles to the lake. My biggest mistake was not letting myself stop, rest, and hydrate. I was “strong willed”. I was slightly annoyed at the massive amounts of horse flies that were biting me. Yes I applied deet. They didn’t care. So I kept moving. I’m 60 years old but still think I’m 30. My body doesn’t work like it used to. So, long answer to an easy question. Hydrate, electrolytes, eat, rest, and have the temp 10-15 degrees cooler. This was my mistake. I’m sharing so others may see what might happen to their body.

Another thought. When it did get to that place….i was trained what to do. I was an EMT for many years. That kicked in and I was able to self treat. So, learn basic first aid and be proficient in its application.

@@explorationnorthwest Thank you for the feedback and responses. I'm heading out on a trip tomorrow (hight temps) with four others and I'm always a get out early and beat the heat kind of hiker and they are not. I'm trying to have us avoid what happened to you from happening to us. Luckily we are all first aid certified and have one doc in the group in case something does happen. Happy hiking!

@@KidsIdaho I am jealous. Eying the forcast…still too warm for at least 7-10 days. I need to get one more trip in before Aug 20. I leave for the wonderland trail for 13 days. Good luck to you and your group. Hike strong!

The brush was so tight to the trail too. You had to rub when walking thru. 3 made it thru my defenses and were on my back neck line when I got home. They were starting their burrowing but hadn’t tipped yet.

Around the 5:09 mark, if you listen closely you will hear the clucking sound of the chukar partridge or just chukar. I was trying to get a better sound but the wind blocked it out.

Wow! So many questions! 1. Why was it so quiet..no birds, no wind, no squirrels? Creepy 2. Why wasn’t there any other people around, no other hikers? 3. So remote and you’re all alone….did u carry a weapon, axe, cellphone had bars? Scary 4. What’s up with the soapy water, and that gelatinous green ooze from the scummy pipe? Dude, u drank that? 5. Was that Three Sisters in the distance; how far were u from Belknap Crater? U should not hike out there alone, if something happens to you like getting attacked by the Giant Tick Monster, you’re screwed. Someone should sue the Oregon Forestry Dept. putting a trail thru a burn zone and building the most lame ass ‘bridges’ I’ve ever seen. Thanks for sharing your top ten trails to avoid….❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂

I got one recently and the grind was terrible, the fit and finish is not what they produced 10 years ago. I don't know what happened that they went so far down hill but the guys that designed the RAT knives left and started their own company Esee that is FAR superior. Good review!

  • @rmaram0978

What's up friend, I recently just bought the rat3 knife from Ontario and I have to say that it is very good, the simple sheath came with an excellent edge but it does its job. I am not much into leather sheaths, I prefer Kydex or ballistic nylon in itself. The knife is contained but it cuts like hell. The problem with the sharpness of your knives quickly fixes them with a grade 8,000 water stone. The knife is seen by the eye of a good cutter for forceful work on logs of moderate thickness due to its size but much better than a pocketknife. Ontario 3,5,7 a safe option for the mountains without a doubt, best regards

The sheaths are crap! Just a way to carry your knife until you kearn how you wish to carry it and have a custom sheath made. Id rather the money be soent on the knife rather than a crappy inife in a fancy sheath.
