    I am in the process of doing this exact same thing but I got my 2001 without them working and already seized. I got all the new parts but the new piston wouldn't fit with the gaskets so gona get a new seal kit and get it thrown on.

    I loved how the manual says to use a c-clamp to install them and an air compressor to remove them. Nothing like the classics. Best of luck getting them going.

    I am pretty sure it was the Proteus. I think the proteus has more airflow - and the Knox Urban pro does as well. I will probably upgrade to the urban pro next time as it’s slide rated and more mesh at the same time. They are all great options.

    Spot on. The single track trails are crossed by two tracks quite a bit, which was really nice because as soon as we got tired, we just popped on a two track until we built up our energy and then pop back on another single track. I wouldn’t hesitate taking a first gen KLR.

    Rev it has a newer version that is much more robust and has pockets for armor as well as a big front belly pocket. It is the same basic pullover style but more of an adv jacket and not just a rain overcoat. The downside is that it is bulkier and doesn't pack down as nicely. It's a trade off I guess.

  • @Duken4evr29
    @Duken4evr293 ай бұрын

    Had a set of these, they did fine on the first day on smooth single track. The 2nd day I went about 2 miles on a whooped out trail and the front strap's mounting "square" tore away from the bag Kinda forgot they were there I guess. Bags mounted on a 300 XC, riding at my usual "B" rider desert 80% race pace on the pipe and skipping the tops of the whoops with about 4 pounds in each bag when it happened. Clearly I asked way too much of them. Such a shame as they are still all pretty shiny and new, and in the trash can as I write this. I really like the layout with two compartments and the bags and their zippers are well made. Beefier strapping and mounting system would be good for morons like me who haul ass and hope they will somehow stay attached to the bike though, or I could just slow down some when using panniers 😆

  • @314adv
    @314adv3 ай бұрын

    What a bummer - great feedback. I have yet had a rear bag set that handles aggressive riding, whoops, trees, etc. The bouncing of the weight loosens the straps enough to end up with rubbing and rips, or far enough out of placement to snag on everything around me. These are pretty much only worth it for light DS /ADV riding. Look close enough and you will see my attachment straps have been re-sewn at least twice from tears and rips. I guess I should have commented on that :(

    What's your opinion on the classic protectors like the Leatt 6.6 etc? I find mine comfy when riding but super annoying for stops and taking on and off. But with this Knox jacket, I'd be worried about impact protection, especially around the chest

  • @314adv
    @314adv5 ай бұрын

    Great question and definitely a dilemma. I use both - but differently. For basic ADV & Light DS riding I use the Action Pro Shirt with the upgraded armor and the Knox Chest Protector and feel comfortable with that as impact protection now that I added the chest insert. It is as pretty similar comparison to the Leatt ReaFlex Stealth shirt. ------Puncture prevention still makes me nervous though - so when riding in the woods where puncture is a concern, or soft dirt where I need to slide and not stick to the ground - then the hard shell Roost Protector is still my go to. In the summer wearing a roost protector and the shirt is just to hot and I will shift to elbow and shoulder pads, but in the winter months - the blend of the shirt with the armor keeps me toasty and safe. Unfortunately there is no good slide/puncutre/impact/breathable/ADV to Single track protection product. Mix, Match, and Ride.

    Road the Swinging Bridges in central Missouri with a few buddies on DR 650's. Did the Smokie Mtn 500 last spring and the Tunica through Arkansas TAT in 2021. Also do an annual touring ride out of the Perryville area into central Missouri. Just convinced one of those street riding buddies to buy a DS bike and now looking to find some good dual sport rides near southeastern Missouri.
