    Hi there! You have beautiful snakes and being from the UK too, I'd love to know how to keep one better. Do you have any videos on setting up enclosures for younger ball pythons? Also stuff like what you use for bedding, temperatures, humidity (I did see a few videos regarding humidity so I'll go watch those now) Subbed btw!

    That's a shame! I knew it was state-by-state over there in terms of laws, but I didn't know any state was that strict. On the one hand, I guess these laws could be enforced because of the possibility of dead animals spreading disease if they get dug up by other animals. On the other hand, the financial burden must make it harder for people to get animals put down humanely. I've had it easy in comparison, but I'm sure similar laws will appear over here too eventually. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    I’m also in the US, but I live out in the country. As far as I know, we are allowed to bury our animals that have passed away. I’ve had one dog cremated, but we have built wooden boxes to bury other animals that have passed away in. I’ve never had to take one of my animals to the vet to be euthanized though.

  • @honeybeeart9382
    @honeybeeart93828 күн бұрын

    It is NOT hundreds of dollars, that is a lie. If you have an animal, you should have the money to provide him or her with proper treatment. If you are short on funds, you can almost always go to the municipal shelter to have it euthanized humanely. Granted, not every municipality is equipped to treat reptiles and in some Red states, they are horribly backwards and primitive in euthanizing even cats or dogs. Why it's important to know where all the good reptile vets in your area are. As far as burying it, there is reasons counties do not want to have people burying numerous animals like cats or dogs in your yard, but no one is coming to arrest you if you bury a baby ball python or a hamster, so that's somewhat misleading.

    My 1 year old pastel gal is most active at her dusk which is when the uvb bulb goes off at 8pm and on again at 10 am and I have a DHP running for 24/7 heat. She seems to be most active between 8pm to about 130-2am because I’ve seen her go back to her hide mostly between 1-2am between when I would typically fall asleep at 1:30-2am. Insomnia is fun. First ball python that I got at 150g in July 2023 I haven’t been awake to see if she is active at dawn she seems crepuscular to me. She is a very good eater. Never declines a meal. She is 700 grams eating a small rat every 2 weeks

    Don't panic yet, it takes a long time for one to die! Keep looking, and maybe put down some trails of flour or talc to see if any tracks show up in them tomorrow night (don't use talc if you have pet birds in the house). She will come out when the house is quiet, and she won't be far. If you really think she is in a vent, it might be worth contacting a heating and air conditioning company for advice (it happens more often than you might think). Definitely don't give up though - she's probably found a really good hiding place but will definitely come out sooner or later. Keep me posted!

Your snakes will probably get less shy with time and gentle handling. I see a lot of stuff about "training" them not to be head shy etc but it's mostly nonsense. Animals with long life spans take time to drop their guard is all. In truth almost all of them get extremely tame after a while - it definitely takes longer for some than others though

    I live in Las vegas which has an average humidity of around 24 percent and throughout the year ranges between 13 and 40 percent. I have my girl in a glass enclosure with a screen top and a fogger running but I get afraid to run it all the time. Even though with it running on the lowest setting it takes the humidity from 55 to 80 percent depending on the time of day and if the central air is running. I know she is getting ready to shed and is eating good. She used to soak in tne water dish before I added the fogger and now she stays in her hide but I'm just afraid that running it will cause RI. I tried spraying and I would have to spray every 30 minutes to keep the humidity at a decent level for any reasonable time.

  • @ballpythonbreeder.co.uk_
    @ballpythonbreeder.co.uk_2 ай бұрын

    Living out west definitely makes humidity tough! I remember going to Las Vegas in the summer one year and it was the driest heat I've ever experienced. Honestly I don't think the fogger alone will give her an RI, so long as her temperature and hygiene are good. Obviously you need her to be comfortable and shed well long-term. Usually RIs are a result of high humidity+poor hygiene+poor temperatures. Maybe a good compromise would be to run the fogger all day, but switch it off at night? Hope that makes sense, and thank you for commenting!

Still hasn't happened but her eyes went back to clear so it should be soon. Strangly enough she hasn't stopped eating the whole time. There is a wood log in the middle of the tank she has made her new full time hide even with a hot and cool one on each side. Temps are good. I can't find and poop anywhere and I've been looking. I've checked her and she doesn't seem to have anything stuck inside her. It is a bioactive but I will keep looking.

    ofc the profit level is the same regardless of currency, as the profit margins aren't dependant on your currency but are instead dependant on suply and demand and as it stands reptile keeping is a more niche pet/hobby so the demand is a bit low, but so is the suply. The suply even more so as it's only a small fraction of reptile owners that decide to breed and sell them. These are also reasons why snakes and other reptiles aren't the cheapest pets, however still cheaper than most dogs as we as a species love dogs a bit too much and are willing to pay more than they are worth (this is especially true when we talk about something like the pug as you are essentially buying an overpriced inbred mess that can't breathe properly)

  • @m3gduwu560
    @m3gduwu5603 ай бұрын

    Inbreeding is actually also much less of a problem with snakes aswell as snake owners greatly desire new beautiful morphs meaning that snake breeders will have to breed their morphs with different ones to get new ones leading to less of the inbreeding we ave seen in animals like dogs where we want them to look one specific way that slowly changes based on our desires, don't get me wrong the snake morph breeding is still desire based, but it's almost like reptile keepers desire unique and individual beauty over the uniform beauty of the dogs. And before you say that there are differences between dogs, and snakes, I am aware of that. However even accounting for historical periods as snakes and reptiles are still rising in popularity and dog have been number one for mellenia only being contested by cats (in egypt specifically) and even though there has been some inbreeding in that time most of it has been for an actual purpose like hunting, tracking or sled pulling, whilst dogs like the pug have been bred to look like they do, purely because we think it's cute and as far as I'm aware reptile keepers don't do that to the same extend, again people will 100% breed 2 different morphs just to see what the mix looks like, but that is mixing the genes and expanding the genepool, not inbreeding wich leeds to less healthy genes and more harmful mutations because of the much smaller genepool

  • @ballpythonbreeder.co.uk_
    @ballpythonbreeder.co.uk_3 ай бұрын

    Fascinating points! I'm not 100% sure - but I think there are veterinarians that want to actually ban Pugs and a few other breeds here in the UK. Whether that is right or wrong is something I haven't really thought about. I can definitely appreciate the contrast you are making though, between our hobby which can (and should) produce healthy animals Vs dog breeding which seems to repeatedly produce breeds with a range of health issues. Obviously a few morphs like the spider BP have issues, but they occurred as mutations, rather than a gradual process that was aimed for. Just for clarity I always had mongrels or lurchers when I had dogs: they were way healthier than pedigree breeds. Great comments - thanks for adding to the topic!

    Do you feel that the enclosure lighting for albino morphs should be lower than for dark-eyed snakes? Should albinos not be exposed to direct sunlight? As a Yank, I enjoy listening to your British dialect. But why do you say vittamin instead of v-eye-tamin, and albeano instead of alb-eye-no? 🤣

    I think it should, yes. Albinos have a much higher chance of getting damaged eyes from strong light - and especially UV radiation. If UV is provided, it's best to only provide a low intensity tube ( l think there's a "Shade dweller" range available). Glad you enjoy the accent - I actually grew up in Indiana but any American accent I had has completely disappeared now 🙂

    I just collected my fifth snake today a 3.5 ft female mojave for free that just needed a good home . I am pretty sure it's a mojave and not a lesser or phantom but so many of these are very similar . That really is it on space now 😂Unless i move house or breed some babies ...

    Good for you giving the snake a home! I really should mention more often that there are plenty of snakes available for adoption. Mohave is a great gene that makes some beautiful animals 🙂

    I keep hearing on various videos that spider morphs are among the best feeders so maybe it's something to do with that complex .

    They definitely are. Problems aside, the Spiders love their food. Shame about the issues with them!

    @ballpythonbreeder.co.uk_ I was reading old posts on a forum from years ago. Someone was saying their spider had a bad head wobble but was a great breeder 🫣 I don't think people would do that these days . Hopefully, there will be less and less wobble as time goes by .

    It's an interesting question. I think Spiders will be bred less and less, then one day we won't see many at all...
