Thistle Hill Farmstead

Thistle Hill Farmstead

Life on our farm in Eatonton Georgia with our two dogs and various animals. Join us for the fun.

My wife and I were both born in rural areas. I am from Sevierville Tennessee (Boyds Creek to be exact) and my wife is from Malmo Sweden. However, life and career took us out of the country to big cities all over the world, but our dream has always been to get back to the country and enjoy a life close to nature.

In 2015 we purchased 38 acres in Eatonton, GA and shortly after purchased an additional 10 acres adjoining our land. So we now have 48 acres in beautiful Eatonton Georgia.

In 2017 we build a garage with a small apartment above it, sold our house in Atlanta, and moved to the country. In 2019 we build the main house (the big house as we call it.)

    My pump started leaking, I have replaced it in the past on this troybilt, the kit is now $66 on Amazon, usually have to replace at least one stripped bolt, after extracting it, not sure what it would cost at a shop ? , which I have not checked out yet, was not a bad project to do, but looking in my manual did not see what engine oil to use , is it the same oil that you use in my home lawn mower usually ? my troybilt I have had since 2008, the 01903 model, I have to be honest with you other than putting in the pump kit, I have not done the other maintenance on it , like oil changes, maybe one pump oil change, but always starts after the pump kit, I borrowed my sons newer model Honda GC 190, to finish up my work, and found out it eats up the gas, vs mine , I still like my old pressure washer, knock on wood 👍😀, any suggestions would be great 👍

    I had the exact same problem with the same halo bolt model , After months of not charging , Just by coincidence I found a car adapter that plugged into the car cigarette outlet and the other side jack was a perfect fit for the halo charger input! I tried it and the damn thing started charging again ! I was able to fully charge it But only using the car charger, It still won’t charge using the original halo bolt plug in charger , I actually ordered another plug in charger , and it still won’t charge in the house, but if I charge it in the car with the adapter, no problem charges it fully every time. ! hope this helps someone

    Good video, thanks. The bolt you describe as a shear pin should actually be the grade 8 bolt that broke. It is not meant to shear since your cutter has a slip clutch. The info in the manual is confusing but it is there. A grade 2 bolt is meant to shear on shafts that dont have a slip clutch. The key is adjusting the gap on the clutch to 4 mm as others have stated and periodically loosening the bolts and "slipping" the clutch. This is impossible with the ridiculous plasti guard on the Frontier cutters. Also, you should have a drain plug down low on the front side of the gear box which allows draining the oil without using that giant syringe. Thanks for the video.

    Thank you for the video I bought one of these heaters about 4 years ago and it came assembled already so I bought a second one and it wasn’t assembled so I opened it up and saw all the parts and put it in the corner of the garage for 3 years so tonight I finally had to put it together and I found this video probably took 30 minutes tops not sure I stopped the video a couple times and skipped ahead a few times where I already took the plastic off

    Great video, and informative as well. I purchased a Z345R in late Aug. 2022, and to date have a total of just under 80 hours on the machine. I have always used John Deere lawn/garden tractors, so decided to stay with the brand for a zero-turn unit. Tho not constructed as ruggedly as the LGTs, I have found these 300 series ZTrak mowers to be of ample quality, and the quality of final cut couldn't be better! Thank you for your video! Very well presented!

    Great video. Just painted my fences. The manufacturer of that paint you showed recommends a tip that sprays 19 - 21 thousandths. So, 319 320 or 321 tip. The sprayer I used was a Graco GH200 with a 321 tip that puts down 2.5 gallons per minute. This is the key to putting enough paint down. A small DIY sprayer will do 0.53 gallon per minute and go down too thin.

    Hey thanks, my 3032e has the exact same setup and I've noticed its been going too far up and causing strain on the hydraulics, and it immediately starts to drop the second move the lever off 9. My sensing valve was stuck and binding up. I loosened both bolts, sprayed it with penetrating oil and started working it loose. Its still a little tough to move by hand so I'll keep working on it, but for now its ok. Much appreciated on the video!

  • @thistlehillfarmstead9131
    @thistlehillfarmstead913126 күн бұрын

    when you say the blades don't engage does that mean you pull the PTO button up and nothing happens? There is an interlock which control the blade engagement. One is the seat switch. This ensured that the operator is in the seat. make sure that switch is working.

    This was a very, very helpful video. I did the same repair on my JD Z525e last week. Pretty much the same "anatomy" on both machines with a few small differences. I found it easier to entirely remove the mower deck though. However, I made a rookie mistake, sort of. I completed the whole belt replacement and I also replaced one of the pulleys that was damaged (I must have caught a small branch or stone or something at some point). Anyway, got everything put back together, tested it and the clutch/transmission...whatever...wouldn't engage and I still couldn't move forward or in reverse. No dice. I did a close inspection of my work and everything seemed ok. I took pics of the layout before I started to take things apart so I was pretty confident. Still couldn't figure it out. So I called a mower repair guy I like a lot but he couldn't get here til tomorrow. I was thinking maybe one or both of the transmissions failed somehow which would cost about $1,000 each just for the parts if they needed replacing. I even began to look at new machines. But I went out about an hour ago to take another look and I suddenly realized I never re-engaged the two levers I had disengaged to release the clutch (or whatever) that allows you to easily push the mower! I re-engaged them and BINGO....back in business. Thanks again!

    How thin did you make this paint?

  • @thistlehillfarmstead9131
    @thistlehillfarmstead913126 күн бұрын

    Apparently I thinned it out too mech because within 6 months the wood was starting to show through. The problem was that I was using a Home/DIY sprayer which was not strong enough to spray that thick paint. Lesson learned. I eventually had it professionally painted. They put it on thick and it looks great.
