Here’s the thing, some of us really did grow up inside a suburban bubble. We had expectations and dreams. We thought we could do anything we wanted to do, and some did.. and some couldn’t …. And some died tragically. Many of us were not prepared to deal with the realities of the outside world. This could easily have been a group of my friends.

No way was that Batman scene with shark realistic. But the pain in the voice of our superhero was! I was almost crying although it did seem to be a little convenient to have a row of shark repellent and nothing else. A helicopter with emergency shark repellent and no other emergency supplies. I’m not buying it

*"William Hurt's damaged Vietnam vet 'hooking up' with his dead best friend's girlfriend within a week of his suicide strains credibility."* Really? If you're assuming that "hooking up" means Nick had sex with Chloe and that "strains credibility" well that's possible as Nick was a damaged, drug-addicted, extremely cynical character who was also the least nostalgic person in the group. He's the one who kept downplaying Alex's death, making jokes about it and cruelly said to Harold, "Wrong, a long time ago we knew each other for a short period of time; you don't know anything about me." - But they didn't sleep with each other as Nick was impotent and said to Chloe in the scene you show at 2:34 "You know I don't do anything, right?" to which she nodded yes. Assuming you know all that and didn't mean that they slept together, you believe that Nick and Chloe finding an emotional connection and spending a non-sexual night with each other away from the others doesn't imo strain credibility. It was Michael, who kept trying to pick up on Chloe and flirting with her in front of everyone throughout the movie, yet THAT didn't strain credibility. I'm sure in real life that sort of thing would happen, especially if the girl looks like Meg Tilly.

Nick and Chloe were both damaged. Makes sense that they might pair-up and perhaps comfort one another.

Just re-watched Big Love this week and he is by far the best character in that show. Always remember him in Alien, one of the first movies and characters from a movie I can remember watching as a kid, right along with RoboCop.

I was having a little bit of depression and stress, so I thought I'd watch a "goofy film" from my teen years in the 1980's. Well..., this isn't exactly how the film "was", there are a few deleted scenes. But, by removing some of low-brow moments have made this a much better film. And to listen to the nerdy antagonistic resentful logic fully predicts so many contemporary CEO and politicians we see and hear in 2024. As well as selling toxic products for profit is a real issue. Still, I had some good laughs. But there is that funny feeling remembering some teenage and early college friends sharing a viewing: I could hear their laughter in some punch-line scenes (some are already gone😢). I grew up with a surf culture with Jalama beach and many other smaller beaches between Lompoc and Santa Barbara. Surfers were a real role model of "easy-living" that I miss in these times. My favorite scene is their enthusiasm to share a surfing story and the women with them try to entice the young men's enthusiasm - and they go back to their storytelling 😂. Not classic cinema, but a good time-capsule popcorn film 🍿 with a few good laughs.

I think in some of these examples, IE the hidden credit card, I wonder if there was a deleted scene that would have "loaded the gun."
