    Well if your a bow hunter I can see the necessity of the harness with the pouches because your range finder and binoculars are all right there ,but if your a gun hunter I’d use a regular binocular harness without all the other stuff. But your right I see a lot of hunting videos with all types of hunters using them when it looks unecessary

    I really wanted to get a blind this year but couldn’t justify the cost and figuring out how I would get it put up on a platform. I ended up building one and just got it up and completed over Father’s Day weekend. I built it modular so I could build in garage and then take apart down to walls and roof. Tore up my arm getting the platform flipped up but I’ll live. Had to get stepson to help with walls and roof as they are wrapped in 1/2” plywood and ribbed metal. It’s Heavy! But I really like it. IF I ever build another, I will want to go the metal route alone and just trim out the ribs to get air tight and then caulk and foam any gaps.

    Got in my screening yesterday and cleaned out the weeds. So my deer seem to eat the crap out of anything and everything that’s not in a cage. I have a couple silly willows I put out where our 2 properties meet and the deer have browsed it down to nubs. So much for not being preferred by deer lol

    lol it depends on what’s around. I still cage cuttings regardless but after they are established they should get browsed less than the other species. I also try not to put things right near the travel corridors etc. I tested my red osier that way without a cage and it didn’t go so well either haha

    I’ve heard of guys putting at post next to evergreens and deciduous trees to keep deer from rubbing.i lost a ton of white spruce I had planted at 18” tall when they got to 4-5’ the bucks rubbed darn near all of them in one of the bedding areas. So frustrating after all the work it takes to plant them plus the cost. It’s just not feasible to fence all of them. I usually try to plant at least a couple hundred spruce each season. But you know you lose 30% to drought. And other things. What have you had success doing? Obviously fruit trees and chestnuts, ROD those get fencing but maybe just throwing volume at them will help

  • @TradgerFarms
    @TradgerFarms2 ай бұрын

    I completely get it! Idk if you watched the later part of video but just like those poplar cuttings you can place evergreens in between branches of trees you fall just like that. It’s been working fantastic. I honestly was shocked every cutting on that island of trees was still untouched. But yea the others need to be fenced unfortunately.

  • @stevedenoyer5956
    @stevedenoyer59562 ай бұрын

    @@TradgerFarms yeah I was surprised as well especially with aspen/popple. They love that stuff. I started hinge cutting to enclose trees this season now. It blows because I thought all was good until they started rubbing. That didn’t cross my mind. But now that I think about it, these are the only evergreen trees in a hardwood stand they were bound to be attracted. Live and learn. Be a little more cautious now

    The tree types on the middle of the pocket were initially for fast and tall cover to help breakup the field and look more natural as a “diversity pocket” but you still make an excellent point! Some of the shrubs are preferred browse while others like silky willow aren’t necessarily preferred browse. So it should be a good mixture. Especially for when the fence comes down.

    Nice barn! I need one so much!! I am afraid you will have issues with the tree stump so close to the porch. I removed trees that were near my pool deck. They were removed by a tree digger attached to a tractor owned by a local tree farmer. They were removed prior to pouring the deck. Over the next couple of years the roots rotted under the deck and the deck cracked and sunk around the area where the tree was. I learned afterward the hard way you should not pour concrete where trees were removed for at least 3 years. Not sure if there is anything you can do now to prevent the settling. You may want to look now into concrete floating an be ready in case it starts sinking. They basically pump expanding foam under the concrete after it settles.

    Thanks for sharing the build and all the lessons learned (I had asked about this last video). Appreciate the walkthrough. You mentioned a place to shower. As a lower cost option, I built an off grid cabin. For the shower I bought an on demand propane hot water heater (eco temp) and hooked it up to standard 20 pound tank. The water is collected of my metal roof into 275 gallon tote which I have some filtration in and out. Bought a normal one piece fiberglass shower from a big box and just plumbed outside to leach the grey water. Nice thing with this is its super easy to winterize. Much cheaper than digging a well or putting in a septic system

    @@TradgerFarms your water line would but, I’d build a small pump house for the water pump next to the building. The sewer would be one line drilled thru the concrete at the edge of wall and you’d then undermine the concrete slab to it to run your line sloped out to your septic tank. It won’t hurt the slab for that little of undermining.
