Pictures, Noise and Words
This is not for the mainstream metal crowd. This channel is for those people with an open mind that like to find new and/or little-known bands.
I started this channel in December 2017 in the hope of bringing common sense opinions to the ‘reaction’ community. Whether I have succeeded is for you to decide. I play the drums, too many computer games and have reviewed a lot of metal for the press in the past and very occasionally the present.

The full version long is 5:52 mins and it is available at Apple Music right now and it has a soft outro music…thats all
Nice video! Just wondering why it is that almost none in the reaction community knows a simple paragraph sign? Paragraph 1. Cheers! Stay Metal! 🤘😎🤘
What I've always loved about Mikael's growls is that they're glorious but still understandable. Fun thing I noticed, if you turn on the CC on this video you actually get subtitles on the growly stuff... And on the cleans it says [music] ... Even YT knows 😂
Great video!
I feel the same exact way about Opeth. They played such a huge part of my music journey and life. They could do no wrong. They also lost me at Heritage and I certainly tried with that album. I honestly think I rather enjoyed parts of it... but the Opeth of My Arms, where Mike forged through the single note swedish thing at the time, and created an insane style all his and their own with Peter. So, between My arms and Watershed, they were my number 1. I"m not sure how I feel about this track yet.
I like that Mikael is letting the subject matter and material, along with feedback from the other band members, guide his artistic choices. He said in an interview that "I've always seen Opeth as a band without boundaries."
I think the growling returning was inevitable. I saw them live a couple of times in the last 5 years, and they didn't play anything past 2011.
That Opeth was very Opethy. I'll be all over that when the album comes out. What radio station plays a radio edit Opeth song? I had this effect with Rush at some point.
Hello there chap; here's copied straight for the internet: "The section sign (§) is a typographical character used mainly to refer to a particular section of a document, such as a legal code."
Oh, I guess I was close. I interpreted it as a "paragraph"
I think a better word would be 'indelibly'... but the significance of that is currently minimal. I have a mixed relationship with Opeth. I think the 'progginess' never really caught my attention. I do have a few of their albums but, l don't think I ever got through an entire album. I might have to dig them out again and give them another spin. Cheers Hedgy.
Old-peth!!! OK, they're not back, but I have renewed my interest. I bought Heritage when it came out and was thoroughly disappointed, if I wanted prog stuff I'd have gone for literally any other amazing prog band, I wanted Opeth so naturally was a bit miffed. They're playing at Bloodstock this weekend, and the release of this radio edit has me all excited in the feels
Top Track. I'm meh on the growing, it's neither here or there for me, I really missed their metal edged sound which went away after watershed (of which this has vibes). I'd love to hear them do the metal edged stuff but with no growling.
growling is integral to the iconic opeth sound
What?? The growls are fucking amazing it adds the darkness I don’t understand how you can not want the growls if you love pre heritage Opeth?
Oh, I will let you know what I think. I think I'm part of the middle group of people saying that their progstuff is good too. But, like you were saying, there were missing some things. Mostly the musical vibe and of course the growls (I really shed a tiny little tear when I first heard the growl was back). This album I expect it's going to be the more proggy variation of Watershed. This song already brought us the perfect blend of the music from ICV in combination with shreds of Watershed together with the beautiful cleans and growls of Mikael. This is going to be such a blast of an album, I suppose. Anyway, cheers Hedgy 🍺 And never say never again when it comes to that Mikael never will growl again. (I had the same assumption). Glad we were wrong about that.
And I know that dog!! It's dead now, but it belonged to a couple I really know well. :)
Hehe, this video is shot about a mile from where I live. It's an old closed down saw mill. I know these people. :D I do like them!!
The song "Ironbound" is my favorite on this Ep
04:04 was is das?
my terrible air drumming?
I always class my stuff as a mix between MDB & PL, but the Tiamat reference to HP is spot on, especially the song Cain.
EverMark here. Sounds a bit like Cattle Decap. Have seen those guys live. I was overwhelmed back then. Think I'd be overwhelmed too by seeing this band live too. What a wall of noise.
Still feels lighter than cattle decap. , though good enough
That was a blaster, but just not enough melody or a trackable tune to hold my attention. While the drummer was balls to the wall, the rest of the instruments didn't impress me much. In the 80s my friend had a band named New Direction, which was meant to be a bit naughty when said with no space between.
Breaking (my apologies) Opeth is back. And how...... Sending this from work. Later this evening I listen to your upload.
This isn't a 'reaction video'. This is 2 dudes nodding to the music.
@moo5862 this isn't a reaction channel. If you want people that pretend to get excited all the time this isn't the place. Check out the faq on the front page.
Good end of a really nice vid. And good to see those young lads play old school thrash.
That was killer and it was sick! I will just never get sick of thrash. Your Metallica comment made me think, they never did the group chant/shout in the choruses that so many thrash bands do. Is that a subset of thrash? Anyway, I'll be getting the EP to enjoy and give them encouragement to keep going.
A rainy day in Hungary brightened up considerably by KillerSick ! The drummer's cowboy hat was distracting but I did like the song. Young guys gotta start somewhere, all kudos to them. Cheers Hedgy.
Every channel needs a Gary break, whether they know it or not. Excellent 👌 He is his own artifact. One of a kind.
So impressive. Perfect vibe for me. Dark, melodic, harmonic, fast. Full of original ideas.
Yeah, love Daath, looking at my copy of the album right now. Beyond excellent. Must look into their back catalogue too now. Cheers Hedgy.
There's a tonne of stuff going on in these songs... alas that felt like a bit too much stuff going on for me. All the bits were great, but all together just felt too much this time
Just brilliant. I bought this album after your previous video and have been enjoying every minute of it. Such great melodies and riffs. Great song construction. I now need to go into their back catalog.
Do you know the sludge/ prog metal band Dvne?
I do not
Scotch band. Saw them live at the beginning of June at 'Into The Grave'. They are excellent, I think.@@PNW
@@markblaauw4961 Scots, scotch is a drink 😋
@@PNW Oops, my apologies. Didn't know I could hurt you there 😅. Scottish is better?
@markblaauw4961 I'm not Scottish but I suspect a Scots person would rather be called a walking haggis than scotch.
This album will be mine oh yes it will be mine
They know what they are doing and they do it well lots of fun
Not 100% my cup of tea but I will drink it
Those calmer moments in the song really gave it that atmosphere and helped convey the emotion. Added bonus, it made the heavy parts feel even heavier. Excellent song
Excellent song. I think I heard some Maria Brink (In This Moment) influence in the vocals. Superb musically and yes. very affecting and emotional. Well done Hedgy. btw I fully agree, it's better to celebrate a person's life rather than only to mourn their death.
I just had the feeling that it hit you personally in some way. That's what music is all about. Emotion. There was a lot of reverb in the song (something modern), but I get it when you say there's a lot of emotion. Nice to see that in your 'reaction' (because I think that's what it was). Most of the time you do some analysis of the songs, but this one was something else. Cheers anyhow 🍺 and have a nice weekend.
Not my pile of black metal tbh. Try out eastern European black, smth like mgla, drudkh or cult of fire
Phrasing Anathema - A.NATH.UH.MA Tiamat - TEE.A.MATT
Cheers
Loved it. Heavy as hell and catchy at the same time
The vocalist sounds a bit like the singer of Haken. Decent song and a superb guitarsolo.
Unbelievable we only found your video now! Thank you so much for your kind words! Btw, you should check out our new stuff. We have a new album with 3 Music Videos from our home in cold cold Finland!
Manchester is the Gothenburg of the North (of England) ! Great song. It definitely ticked all my boxes. Cheers Hedgy.
To my shame, this is my first time hearing Winterfylleth on record. But I've seen them live a couple of times (at Bloodstock & supporting Anaal Nathrakh in Birmingham) and their live shows are just as awesome as this. Really love that sort of cycling guitar that this sort of black metal has, adds to that feeling of relentlessness (I think you're actually pronouncing it correct as well)
That is incredible black metal. That nonstop fast guitar strum, great drumbeat, classic vocals. Nice dark vibe. Fittingly, September 13 is Friday the 13th. Top banana....
Absolutely great stuff! This is really headphone music to listen to with closed eyes. Manchester disunited and nevertheless a master. (Sorry für this dead joke)
And that in your backyard 😅 Just a very proper blackmetal band. From Månchåster you said?
I love Michael John Moorcock, and his Eternal Champion series!!
Yes! Dialith. Thanks again for covering them back then. Have been following their work ever since. Like you said, inventive and surprising.
