I first learned about the Financial Independence (FI) movement in early 2018 and soon wanted to share how I work on my healthy vegan habits while also living a frugal lifestyle and saving for financial independence. I gave myself the name Frugal Healthy Vegan and a new channel was born!

thank you so much, am so glad i found this! planning a cross country move for either the fall or next spring. the amtrak tip is gold!! i also see this video is 5 years old; hopefully it still applies!
Did you ship any furniture?
What are the best budget minded ways to have your car shipped or moved across the country?
Nothing sells on fB unless you ship now adays 😡
Why not drive and take a moving truck…?
Ive been saving boxes from all my Amazon deliveries 😂
Amtrak shipping is suspended until further notice
Greatttt video
Solid trips! Thank you so much.
A track stoped their shipping service
How was the timing on Amtrak? You flew across country but driving might mean your stuff arrives before you, right?
I love this video thank you!
Thanks!
Have you seen a doctor about your voice? You should because you sound like two people I know dying of lung cancer.
Comic shops have the GOOD boxes. Diamond ships most of their comics in double-layer cardboard.
As a North Carolinian trying to leave the state I'm just wondering why would you want to come back?!
How do you ship your things if you aren't sure what your address is? Or, if you are first landing in something temporary (like an extended stay hotel)?
Amtrak will hold it at the station for you to pick up. Or if you use Uhaul pod container things, they will hold at the facility and you can schedule delivery or go get them.
Wanting to move soon, so THANK you!
I've already considered and have been downsizing my items but the Amtrak tip was new to me! I'm mainly shipping my workshop necessities already in plastic containers.
Brilliant video! You just saved a single and soul provider mom a lot of money and stress. Thank you so much for this video and all the information
Thanks so much! I was wondering about the train because I heard about Greyhound. Cheers!
Thank you for the #1 tip, really useful. Sadly Amtrak shipping is suspended until further notice.
Thank you for the Amtrak hack. Looking forward to investigating. Moving from California to Ohio.
Wish I'd of seen this earlier! I am in the midst of packing and the soonest I can get a pod delivered is 4 days after I leave on a plane....
Thank you!
Thank you for this video! I’m going to look up Amtrak shipping right now. Thanks again!
Great video. Was looking into buying a new mattress for a short term move nearby but if I’m moving out of state after a year so it may not be worth buying a whole new if I’ll just have to sell it or whatever.
Thanks for this video. The Amtrak shipping hack alone was worth the view!
im moving from Oakland to georgia as soon as possible. the rent is too damn high over here. you got the right idea sister.
This is a great tip about shipping boxes with Amtrack......thank you.....I'm wondering though if there is much of a chance of boxes being lost or stolen with Amtrack??
Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you so much for this video! 🙏🏻 Weddings cost way more than we could initially think and not many people talk about frugal weddings on the internet, so thank you. 🙏🏻 P.S.: I’m vegan and moving towards a frugal lifestyle as well.
Can you ship furniture and large items through Amtrak? Or just boxes?
You cannot ship furniture, just boxes and they have a limit on the size and weight of each box on their website. Perhaps if you disassembled your furniture and got it to fix within those parameters though!
Thanks, very informative!
Wow, watching this a while since you posted (doing the same move: CA to NC). SO HELPFUL! Thank you!
Cool, I hope you like it here in NC!
I've moved across the country twice and am about to do it for a third time.. :) First two times I sold everything and just took what would fit in my car! This time I'd like to bring more things along but didn't want to spend a fortune. Thanks so much for the Amtrak tip!!!
doesnt work anymore unfortunetly!
Thank you so much for the tips it really helpful ironically a friend an I are planning on moving from California to North Carolina hopefully the winston area. Anyone got any advice???
Oct 2020 Amtrak suspended its express shipping. I appreciate u , but when u sell or trash all your furniture, u still have to buy new stuff. What it really corresponds to is, the cost of shipping vs the cost of buying new furniture..
That stinks! This video was shot 2 years before they suspended shipping. I hope they bring it back. It worked so well for us.
Looking to move to NC from CA, any suggestions as to good areas to live out there?
Depends on what lifestyle you are looking for! Are you more of a fast-paced, city person, or a full-on outdoorsy-type? If you like smaller towns so that you can take advantage of BOTH of those lifestyles and have access to a lot of different types of careers in the job market, there are some lovely smaller towns west of Charlotte that will put you very close to the NC mountains, too! Also, we are only around 4 hours or so from the coast of NC, particularly the Wilmington beach area (a little longer if you want to see the gorgeous Outer Banks, but sooo worth it!). And just below Wilmington is the SC border and Myrtle Beach if you want a beach with more night life and Outlet shopping. I've lived in NC my whole life. You'd think that someone who has been in a small town would hate where she lives...but no, I love it. It's a gorgeous little town and there's so much to do around here! As with most places, sure I could say "this is wrong & that is wrong", but to be honest we have more good than that. ❣️
If you have a specific type of place you are looking for, let me know! I'd be glad to point you in the right direction!
Thank you so much!!! And a little bit of both, I like being close to shopping but we love fishing so hopefully a happy medium of both. I have a list of cities I narrowed it down to. What city are you from?
@@missbr0wn09 I live in Lincoln County. I love that we are so close to the mountains here and that we aren't too far from Charlotte when we need to go there. There's still PLENTY to do around our area, and it's just gorgeous.
Wow thank you.
Super helpful! Amtrak tip is a life saver!
Currently suspended amtrack 😭😭😭😭 thank you for the tips
The Amtrak website says their shipping service is closed now :( do you know of a comparable service?
This was super helpful and informational! I came across this video during research for school. I am going to be interviewing an ND this week for a class I am taking. Your video brought up some great talking points that I had not yet thought of!
I'll definitely check out Amtrak!
Great video! As we consider moving, this was an awesome video to confirm a few ideas we had (like way paring down our stuff before we move). Thanks so much for sharing!
While we aren’t vegan, we’re very cognizant of the... shall we say durability of the planet. We’ve grown and canned 80% of the wedding menu so far, barring grains, and raised our own poultry for the meat. Everything in our wedding so far has been primarily second hand. I’m literally sitting here making flowers from reused paper for our dummy cake- made out of cardboard and “frosted” with an old can of spackling I found in a restore for 50c. Our wedding flowers are coming along swimmingly- we decided on strawflowers as they can be dried and kept as beautifully as if they were fresh. Our centerpieces are fairy houses- made from garbage, and garbage cardboard, I made some monster mud out of a 10 year old bag of opened concrete and a can of old latex paint the label had fallen off of. Instead of renting a location, we rented out a private camp ground for $1,500 for the weekend, and have beds for all of our out of town guests, no hotel required. My dress has been made from old table cloths, and my wife’s has been made of curtains. Our rings are stainless steel, that costs about $10 each, and is more durable than gold or silver. All told, we’ll spend less than $2000 including the site rental.
Good tips. I am searching for ideas that I may not have thought of for an upcoming move in 2022. I moved cross country to CO in 2018, then down to AZ in 2020, and now looking at a move next year back to MA. I did the 15' Uhaul and car transport with a friend driving to CO (expensive with gas, food, hotel), then movers (expensive but the movers carrying stuff/furniture down stairs and loading the truck was a total relief and was worth it. I had packed everything over months during lockdown/Covid so it was ready to go), then me on own driving car with cat to AZ with no hotel, less gas than to CO; minimal food). Now for the third time, movers (expensive but no stress) will load and hopefully meet me on the other end at a storage unit in MA; me in car for 7 days cross country with dog (expensive) to friends' place for a couple months (cheap). I can't fly with large dog (won't put her in belly of the plane). I am selling as much furniture as I can minus the new(er) mattress/bed and some small boxes this time. Also need to sell a lot of old stuff I have had for years. Starting the purge now 10 months ahead and making lists. I didn't purge enough on my move to CO and even to AZ and regret it. The cost to move my apt. full of furniture would be more than replacing the furniture new and would require a larger, more expensive storage unit on arrival. Amtrak moving sounds great but I would have to rent a Uhaul or hire movers to get the 2 shipments to the not so close Amtrak (40 minutes south), and then pick up from Amtrak on the other end and get it to storage. I will be driving cross country, so if it arrives before I do - which is likely, I would then have to pay for them to store it. Picking up at Amtrak in Boston would be a complete nightmare. Time and money would negate the Amtrak option.
Unfortunately, I checked on the Amtrak site (8/21/21) the option for shipping is *_"suspended until further notice"_*
amtrak suspended that service. Thanks anyway Guess I'll just throw everything away
