Sudden Sam was a fantastic charismatic rider who in my opinion was far more talented than he is given credit for and yes I do know that he was World Champion.

Poole are the most Elite, non-Elite team ever. Maybe they optimise everything wrong with British speedway today I am a Pirates fan through thick and thin since 1966.

No sensations, but was Leigh Adams and Tony Richardson the best ever for Pirates...and that includes Mark Loram, Darcy Ward and Chris Holder.........those were the days!

Thank you A good and simplistic explanation of the concept of setting up a bike for racing. The engines themselves are very subtle and can be technical in cam profile and induction and exhaust to achieve maximum performance and as explained by Chris from which they play with ignition and carburettor. It’s a very much a guessing game of past knowledge.

Here's my idea. why don't the speedway authoritites ban riders from doing all that digging away at the track surface before each race. i understand why they do it in the same way i understand by bowlers tamper with the ball. my issue is that all that digging does is to waste time. speedway is an ok sport that is probably slowly dying out. one of its problems is there is a lot of waiting around between races. surely if you could knock off 15-30 seconds each race that is currently wasted you could speed the whole thing up a bit.

Thank you very much for this loved simmo. Was always great with the fans. Very easy going friendly. Yes he has had his critics. Just thought he was a brilliant rider and always came across as a very decent man. Sadly missed also the amazing Dave lanning who was always trying to get publicity for speedway. Amazing commentary from him. 2 absolute legends of speedway sadly missed

At Lynn, the announcer would always call Richard "The Law-man". At Leicester I heard them call him "The Lawmaker". But I have to say, "The Rocketman" is far better!

I was with my mum (now deceased), at a Beaulieu Friends meeting on Speedway and Brian Crutcher was there as a member. Mum said hello to him and sat with her and talked about Poole and she showed some old photos of those times . He was very friendly and said that it was nice to meet and chat and look at the pictures. A while later , we went to another evening meeting and Brian was there and spotted mum and again they sat down and this time,he produced photos of his early career. It was a beautiful thing to witness and mum was so pleased he had taken the time to bring the photos and again enjoyed my mums company. Such an incredible moment and a perfect gentleman.
