Would the invention of cameras and the spread of that technology not have been one of the main driving forces behind Kandinsky stating that painting should come from inner emotion? The public no longer needed accurate depictions of the world around them as cameras could replace them and were also more trendy and modern. Therefore in order for painting to survive the next century the artists needed to start focusing inward to the imagination for inspiration as cameras could not capture those scenes.
