grateful for your video
Beautiful bee yard❤ from Meriden CT
Good information. Regarding the Chronic Bee Paralysis virus, i noticed it in a colony with a historically high mite load. I was surprised you didn't advise to check and possibly treat for varroa. Ive also heard requeening can help.
Thanks for your comments. Paralysis virus can occur without high varroa. We know very little about the pathology The colony was already treated I see single bees it in every colony
Great talk! Interesting practical and timely. Thank you Bill.
And the bee came back after the very next shake!
They can’t sting but can pinch the absolute shit out of u
We’ve had carpenter bees for years and they are harmless to people. They have a tendency to fly right up to our faces, we usually just stop and say hi.
He was simply licking the salt from your skin. They usually get the salt they need from natural sources, but if they find a source close, they will use it. Wasps, honey bees, and sometimes smaller species of hornets will do the same. As long as you don't swat at them, they are perfectly harmless. ❤
while salt is abundant in certain natural formations, its accessibility in the environment can be limited, leading animals, including insects like butterflies, to seek alternative sources like tears, sweat, and puddles to meet their nutritional needs.
Hands of a 70 yr old. Impressive you’re using KZread.
Carpenter bees are absolutely adorable
I bet he likes your salt haha
Probably after salt - unless there was some other interesting smell on your hand - any other guesses?
Im guessing it wanted salt
I agree.
Just let him bee 😂
I want to experience that 😭
That bee was trying to mate with your hand 🤣
I've done that a few times but then they get in on my porch with a screened in and I'll catch them and let them go outside
Probably a male.
=) amazing
Cute!!
Curious why you would use more than 1 Bee Escape
Thanks Bill!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and, if you want, share it on other social media.
Bees are so incredible
Thanks for watching!
Fascinating❤
Thanks for watching. Hopefully we can continue to make many more.
Beautiful swarm!
Thanks for watching. It was fun to hive that swarm.
Awesome
Thanks, swarm season is a lot of work and these moments bring pleasure and wonder.
thanks, very interesting!
looking forward to bee keeping
That is so interesting. Maybe it is to create a bit of weight so the comb is drawn down straight? Very cool! Love the clear bee hive videos!
Thanks for watching 😊
So many ants? is that ok?
Nice pickup- no problem. They live on top of the colony until you open it. Then they scatter around and the bees chase them for a while and it’s over when you close the colony.
Great video!
Thanks- glad to have you watching.
I hope Im not too late to start off, But I dont expect to get any honey the first year. Hopefully will have enough frames just for the bees.
YAY I Love it! You live close by .
Thanks!
Love it . !!
As a beekeeper with 150 hives, i enjoyed this video. I think i will do this in north florida
Yes, it’s a great way to make honey.
That poor lady with a skirt.
There is also a bee with wax plates in the abdomen- worth mentioning
Yes, she popped up and left fast. Thanks for watching.
Great example of shake signal❤
Thanks for watching
I am sorry I missed this Bee Talk. I wanted to add that I have a camera on my hives and during the eclipse I noticed that about ten minutes before totality all of the bees returned to the hive and the entrance remained quite with no activity for about 40 minutes and then as the eclipse ended the bees started to leave the hives and resume normal activity.
Great!
😂呜呜😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅😂呜😂n😂😂😂
Nice.
Thanks!
Very cool!
Wicked cool
Thanks Tom. It’s really taking off.
Maybe Jamie has EFB
WHEN DO YOU REMOVE SLEEVE IN SPRING TEMP WISE?
Now is a good time.
@@connecticutbeekeepers OPEN SCREEN BOTTOM ALSO?
What a mess
You could have shaken the last frame off into the mix box.and left that box in front of their new home..they would find the entrance due to smell.
In hoping to start using Nucs to winter over and have been browsing u tube a lot. Using the 4 frame bottom board doesn't impede using the 5 frame deep? Can't your two queens go hive to hive cause your bottom board isn't separating the two hives correctly?
Mated Queens don’t usually do that. But a virgin can fly in.
Actually we DO have 9 frame hives in the U.S. I have a Lyson 8/9 frame hive (from Betterbee). You can either put 8 frames in with a follower board or put 9 frames in the hive. It's nice that this model of Lyson hive has interlocking boxes, so they are much less likely to separate and blow over. I like this hive a lot (my bees seem to like it too).
They have the Hive IQ Supers on the web site now
I ALSO HAD ORANGE POLLEN COMING IN DURING EARLY DEC. ON MY INSULATED HIVES. 1/12/24 BEES WERE OUT AND ABOUT WITH TEMPS IN UPPER 50'S. SO I PUT SUGAR WATER OUT 150 ' AWAY FROM APIARY. I ALSO FED EACH HIVE 2 PATTIES AS TEMPS ARE FORECAST TO DIVE. IN THE SHOP TODAY MAKING SNELGROVE BOARDS.
SEEMS A LITTLE TIGHT WITH 1/4" PLYWOOD FOR DIVISION BOARD. I USED ALUM COIL STOCK TO ALLOW FOR MORE ROOM . ONE SAW KERF AND DONE
