    Rockauto and parts geek still sell strut tophat bushings for both front and rear. Cv axles are sold in both websites as well. If you will be replacing the cv axles in the rear i would recommend replacing the wheel bearing as well since youll have everything apart anyways

    I have a 2000 q45 and I've been wanting to replace the stock radio with a bluetooth one. Do you have any suggestions on what I should get? There really isn't too much information on bluetooth radios that fit the q45.

  • @ChrisandHisQ
    @ChrisandHisQ Жыл бұрын

    At the moment, there isnt one that fits the stock radio 'hole', most Bluetooth radios that are double din 6.7 inches have a frame around them, that frame wont fit through the hole. I emded up brake my wooden trim piece trying to force it through, So dont do that!!! But i know some radios come slightly smaller than 6.7 inches on a double din. Havent done the research but they are out there 👍

    From oem hieght you can drop up to 4 inches with the correct camber and wheel/tire set up. But as far as "is it worth it" it really depends what ride experience you want. But on the performance side its definitely worth it. On the cruiser/weekend car its not worth it.... 🤔🤷‍♂️

    Hey, saw you posts on the forums and been going through your videos. I’ve been wanting one of these for a while and there is decent looking one a few hours away. Before I commit tho I was trying to do some research. My main concern is trying to a find spring/strut that will give me very mild drop while maintaining soft luxury ride. I don’t want stiff. I’m okay with replacing all the suspension parts, bushings, etc to make it ride nice but I really want just a mild drop and oem feel ride. Would coilovers with soft spring work? Has anyone tried lowering springs for a more recent car like M45 on one struts since they don’t really make aftermarket springs for y33 anymore?

  • @ChrisandHisQ
    @ChrisandHisQ Жыл бұрын

    Hey there, glad to hear you want to join the Q45 family. To answer your question quickly. YES! There is a couple options to getting close to OEM feel on the suspension with aftermarket parts. The problem is, its going to take some research to do it the best way, which is with trying to get the KYB SR special. These struts will give you the best OEM feel while giving you much better handling from stock struts. You can still get OEM struts from the dealer but it takes some digging as the Infiniti dealers work with different websites per store. Meaning a store in California will have seperate inventory/website than a store in Arizona. With that said both those options will not give you the option to lower the car without cutting springs which I DO NOT RECOMEND. Now the only option to lower the car and get a somewhat soft ride is to go with coilovers and super soft springs like you mentioned. I havent tried it personally and it will cost more out of pocket as you would need to purchase a whole set of springs separately as coilovers for the Q45 arent sold with anything lower than 6K springs. I believe someone in the forums mentioned they tried 3K springs with good results. Another very reliable source from the forums also mentioned you can contact BC coilovers for some custom struts with a smoother and softer strut and custom springs. Of course once again a more expensive option. I hope this info helps 👍

    @@ChrisandHisQ thanks for the reply. Def helpful and you’ve confirmed mostly what I’ve gathered so far. I may call BC this week to see what’s up. Kinda funny that the suspension is the deciding factor on buying the car since it’s make or break (and replacing suspension will cost more than damn car, lol). I’ve already got a slammed 6MT IPL with all the goodies but I need a timeless big body classy cruiser to pair with it. Only other thing I’m kinda bummed about is lack of power. 260 on paper (likely 215 at the wheels) seems pretty awful for a v8. I’m sure intake/headers/exhaust/tune would really open up some power but I want the car quiet so I’m kinda stuck with the turtle. Not a deal breaker tho. Swapping a newer vk56 into it (or just an ls) has also crossed my mind.

  • @ChrisandHisQ
    @ChrisandHisQ Жыл бұрын

    @kyleucf yes definitely the hardest thing about the Q45 is the suspension, but the V8 is powerful. The only downside is the gentlemans agreement that japan did limiting the ECU. Ive done alot of digging in the web and thats why i bought myself a standalone ECU. You dont really have to modify the engine much from what ive seen to make + 300hp NA. I have tried a wet nitrous kit in the past which blew my engine up but my butt dyno says i was make 350+ hp (mind you this was a stock ECU and me as a kid with little to no experience hence the blown engine)... but the torque is there from stock. I havent tried it yet but im sure a lower stall torque converter and higher diff gear would make the acceleration much better. Definitely a higher stall torque converter and higher diff ratio would be better but i would assume youd run into transmision heat issues since many have confirmed anything above 300hp for the stock trans is pushing it. Though many have gotten a 350z trans and mounting plate with a standalone ECU and made plenty of power. Still i highly doubt youd go any faster than 2-3 seconds from stock but it sure beats the work on adding a turbo in the cramped engine bay. But if youre willing to put the work in swapping the engine im sure the emd result will be awesome. I definitely liked the LS swap Y33 i saw on the hoonigan channel 👍👍

  • @ChrisandHisQ
    @ChrisandHisQ Жыл бұрын

    So if im not mistaken (ive deleted a couple things in the Q's engine bay) there is 3 bolts in the center of the intake plenum on the left side like you mentioned and 2 nuts, 1 in the front and 1 in the back, the back one should be almost directly under the EGC regulators. There is also a 3 inch tab in the rear of the engine holding the intake plenum to the head. If i also remember correctly there is another small bolt holding some vacum lines in the front of the intake plenum. I hope this helps 👍

    Thank you for the input! Do you have a q or s14 at the moment?..... as far as the front control arms, they were actully made for the q45, i bought really old stock from a distributor so megan racing doesnt make said control arm anymore but the balljoint although its for an s platform knucle its worked perfectly fine with the added washers, i will get it switched out eventually though I've been looking at other s platform FLCA and seen some pretty beefy ones that will do the trick, im not planning on slaming the car or running really wide tires and even the way it is now ive beeting on the car quite a bit, (over 10,000 miles already) ran a couple curbs, potholes, high speed turns, full lock donuts and ive had no issues 🤞. (All with no sway bar too) but once i get the other car running ill update the entire suspension on this one👍

    The electric suspension is completely different as it has a separate computer/controller for the struts themselves. have you thought about doing the s14 front suspension conversion? ive thought about doing it for mine especially sense ive heard horror stories about finding front wheel hubs for the q45

  • @ChrisandHisQ
    @ChrisandHisQ Жыл бұрын

    I belive the s14 fron suspension is exactly the same as the q45. The major differences are the strut tower assembly (strut and knuckle are separated) and the sway bar is of course smaller but no major changes. If your wheel hub is damaged then yes. You would have no other choice as the q45 wheel hub and many other parts are pretty much inexsistent. I am currently going to keep as much as the q45 stuff as possible as the car is very heavy and most parts are just beefier than the s14 parts

    @@keyborb5440 if it's a bolt on for the s14 then it should bolt on to the q, clearances might differ as the s14 has a much smaller front end than the q. So you might or might not run into issues there. But I do definitely recommend the BC coils over the Megan's as you can rebuild the BC for dirt cheap and have more customer support. I believe Megan discontinued theirs so you might get left in the dark in the future (don't quote me though). I would definitely like to hear how it goes for you, even NICO forums members who have done said conversion haven't explained much in detail so I am interested 👍

    so the axle stud had like a flat tip on one one side and while i know the spindle is short - what did you use before torquing the axle nut? was it a washer? i have my bcs but don't want my axle nut coming undone

  • @ChrisandHisQ
    @ChrisandHisQ Жыл бұрын

    I honestly did not have an issue with the spindle nut going on. I did read a couple threads to see what was optimal since i did see the nut a little out and they say about 9 to 10 turns is good for the wheel not to go flying. I got 9. Not entirely sure why it wouldn't fit tho. One thing I do want to fix later is replacing the nuts themselves, I did end reusing mine which I highly advise against. No oem spindle nuts are available from what I've seen but the thread pitch and size is M24 - 1.5. But even with reusing the old ones and leaving them at 9 turn torqued to spec I haven't have any wheel issues or vibrations. I can handle sharp turns at 35mph and highway corners at 90mph. Gotta say those BC coils are a dream for the Q.
