What’s truly insane is Michael Carter’s 1979 national record of 24.77 m. (5.443kg), Thought by many to be untouchable, but I believe Jackson has a legitimate shot at challenging it. even Carter himself never came closer than 1.3 m the entirety of his high school career. It was truly a lightning bolt put that even shocked himself.

@@gerlofholkema3110 'murica! The WA page is off in two spots, his puts are all with a 12 pound shot (5.443 kg) and his discus throws are with a 1.6 kg discus, not a 1.5 kg (used to be 3 pounds 9 ounces or 1.616 kg when I threw, they changed that in the early 2000s, I believe.)

But also, Missouri is one of 4 states that actually measures field events in metric officially. Which I, of course, don't like since it's less granular that what we use, the quarter-inch. Was it 74'9½" or 74'9¾"? I think the result sheet rounded up (unofficially) to 74'10", which is a no-no. I guess the put could have been in the 22.8092 to 22.8099 range and it was measured in both, but who knows.

I think the competition will be strong in the next Olympics. Now we have a strong competitor for Ryan, the Italian Fabian. His improvement in throwing has been expected as his 22.88 throw could become longer than Dalek. I hope Joe Kovac goes over 23 metres, becoming only the third fourth shooter in history to do so. I guess he's out of luck yet. He also hopes that Al Rayyan will add a new number that will distance it from the rest of its other competitors. He is required to perform well, especially since this may be his last Olympics, as he is now 34 years old
