Welcome to Nicholas Train Channel on this channel you will see.
Model railway videos such as layout updates, unboxing and reviews, Running sessions, layout build videos, how to videos and model train show videos. Along with that you will also see train chasing/spotting videos such as chasing heritage tours and just filming some trains at my local station.
My model railway layout is set from 1988 to 1993 with a lot of the locos and stock painted in the V/Line orange and grey livery along with some VR livery added for some variety.
I also would like to make another engines of V/Line video and continue that series.
Hope you enjoy the channel.

Fantastic video
Thanks James. It was a great day out. Glad you enjoyed it
Nailed it buddy plenty of action high and low speed love that moment when the 3 guys jumped out of the metro train in front of you too And the K class whistle it’s a ripper
Thanks mate. Despite the delays it was a very good day out. I'm glad those 3 guys saw that I was filming and moved out the way.
@@NicholassTrainChannel yeah very good they moved but it was a funny moment for me anyway
Top video Nicholas 👍
Thanks Richard. It was a good day out.
Great sharing my friend enjoyed it!
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it.
good vid as always thanks lee
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Amazing! Beatiuful video, greetings from Asturias 👍👍👍🚂
Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers.
That’s growing fast! Great stuff guys 😀
Thanks Paul. Your standard is a great one to follow. I'm looking forward to getting a start on my own module soon.
Nice video Nick, it was great to see you there! Can't want to see what type of modules you create!
Thanks mate. It was great to see you too. I have a few ideas on what I want to build so stay tuned.
Looking forward to it!
Thank you so much for coming along and making this video! We’re looking forward to seeing what you build for the project!
Cheers Will it was great to come along and see what everyone has made and to see it all in action. I have a few ideas in my head on what I want to build so stay tuned for that.
Amazing how they manage to fit sound decoder and speaker onto those tiny locos. Thanks for sharing with us. Just like being there. They are beautiful and quite cute to look at.
Thanks mate. It's amazing how they fit all that stuff in to those tiny locos. I wasn't to sure how I would go about filming the video but I'm pretty happy with it.
Than you for the video ,I need some good cheap but good looking hedges & your video is a great help Thank you .😊
awesome video mate, Great shot at 6:27, missed that opportunity myself!
Thanks mate. It's a pretty nice spot to get photos and videos. To access it you go to Upper Ferntree Gully station and then walk along the Ringwood to Belgrave rail trail heading towards Belgrave direction and it's right next to the bridge. Hope that helps.
@@NicholassTrainChannel Thanks!
Fantastic video mate well done
Thanks James. Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice video
Thanks Sam. It was nice to see you again.
Good idea with the pencils and foam.
Thanks. It's a good way to mark out where you want to put your road and also have it a consistent size.
That N Class will be fun to build. Do you know what mech it’s designed to fit?
Thanks mate I'm looking forward to the N class build. It is designed to use the Auscision G class bogies and motor which I have ordered yesterday so those should come soon. Hope that answers your question.
goods vid on channel keep up the good vid you do
Genesis is very nice. Slate Valley is one of my favorite, a very clever layout. Thanks Nicholas.
Thankyou Genesis was a very nice layout with some beautiful scenery. As for Slate Valley it's very clever how it was designed having upper and lower levels and the use of forced perspective really makes the layout stand out from others. Glad you enjoyed it.
What's the saw thing you used to get rid of the excess from the insides of the track to let the train through?
The tool I used is called a Dremel also known as a rotary tool. Hope that answers your question.
@@NicholassTrainChannel Thanks I already purchased one and got it a few days ago.
Are they all electric houses? No chimneys
Whitish residue is due to excess humidity or cold dampness if it was cold when you clear varnished it.
That would probably be the case it's since been fixed.
So annoying constantly seeing the back of your hand !!
Well it's hard to work around a camera so don't watch it if it annoys you!!!!!!
Worst video I've seen yet after years of watching tutorial videos. Tell me something....are they meant as tutorial or just proving you weathered it?
Well if you don't like it then don't watch it simple as that and don't waste your time by writing rude comments like this. And I'm not trying to prove anything nor was this intended as a tutorial because if it was then I would be showing how I weathered the wagon in a step by step process.
Piss mate you probably still eat your snot
I just took delivery of an Auscision C class. It looks great sitting on the display shelf. I'm ready to build the layout and due to space restrictions, was going to have a minimum radius of 22" and #5 Peco turnouts. Will these locos run on these sharp curves? Thanks.
Thanks for the comment I agree the C classes are a nice model. As for your question I have been running my C class on 22 inch curves on my layout and not had an issue. As for the Peco #5 turnouts those have a pretty smooth curve to it so you shouldn't have any issues.
@@NicholassTrainChannel Thanks. I had some issues with the Auscision A class not liking 22" curves and replaced the bogies. Haven't had a chance to test it yet as I'm between layouts..
best way is adhesive spray instead of pvc glue they work really well also height is 5mm for garden and 10mm for farmer hedges nice idea and love the train table!
Hi thanks for the comment I have used spray adhesive before and I recon it works just as well as PVA glue. I went with a tall hedge as that's what I prefer.
Great. Boomer's Diorama has some good vids on level crossings too.
I believe I have seen his videos on level crossings. He has done some amazing builds.
Thats something i need to do but just cant get started !
Awesome work as always Nicholas. It's going to be great when you get the level crossing working keep up the great work mate 😃👍
Thanks Jai. I'm looking forward to getting the level crossing wired up. Just need to get a level crossing flasher unit first.
Looks great. Not you just need some flashing crossing lights.
Thanks mate. Yes I do plan to wire up the level crossing lights. Just need to get a level crossing flasher unit then I'll be able to wire them up.
Circuitron makes a great detector and flashing circuit. I’ve posted a couple videos on how to install them. Easy install. Let me know if you want a link to the video. Cheers!
@@HartfordWhaler cheers. Yes please a link to a video on how to install them would be appreciated.
Really good video Nicholas. Turned out great, well done, cheers.
Thanks John. I'm super pleased with how this scene has turned out. It is one that I'll be getting a lot of shots at when doing running sessions.
Very impressive mate looks awesome 👌 👏
Thanks mate. It's been a lot of work to get this scene complete but I'm glad it's done.
Hey mate absolutely fantastic video and also to it was great catching up with you as well
Thanks James. It was nice to catch up with you again.
Nicely captured Nicholas 👍
Thanks Richard. It was good fun chasing and riding the train.
"promosm" 🙌
Great footage. 👍
Thanks mate. It was an enjoyable day.
Thank you for showing the Melton layout. I was behind the stall running trains.
No worries at all. Look forward to seeing it at another exhibition.
Imagine it is one big hill with a cutting in it
That’s what I’m most likely going to do. Thanks for the comment.
@@NicholassTrainChannel your welcome. Thanks for the content!
Great, thank you for sharing so quickly. Unfortunately I couldn’t make it this year.
Glad you enjoyed it. There is always next year.
The first layout was actually built by former Sunbury Model Railway Club members, John Hill, Roy Hill, Kevin Schultz and ? (Can't remember his name) it was inspired by the Settle and Carlisle Line and Dent Station in England, and was exhibited back in the early 1990's - it was donated to the SMRC a few years ago and modified somewhat. Often, the original builders are forgotten......
Too much Thomas. Cinamon Port is very nice.
At least the Sodorese trains had some light weathering and realistic loads in the wagons. Not all straight out of the box trains with only 2 or 3 wagons as is usually the case. ;-)
You could try a hill higher maybe, either a smaller or same size one would be cool too though. Whatever you decide would look cool, it won't matter.
Thanks I'm leaning towards making the hill the same height as what's on the other side just so it all flows nicely.
If it was me I would match the height on the opposite side. Cut your detailed side back a little further and then have rather steep cutting on both sides, instead of say a rock face. And from the top of the cutting on the new side roll the hill and scenery gradually down towards the front of the layout.
Thanks for the comment. I'm leaning towards doing exactly that but I'm going to have retaining walls on both sides.
@@NicholassTrainChannel nice, I look forward to seeing how it turns out.
Hi, the scene would look more natural if both sides were one hill and the railway was cut into it. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the comment. It would make sense to have both of them the same height and have retaining walls on both sides to make it look like the land has been cut into.
To follow the topography, that should be a cutting with either a hill the same height or falling away , or even rising. It will all depend on the type of scenery you want to model along that side including any existing structures you may have that can be included. Don't discount expanding the scene a little to let it flow. 🙂
Thanks for the comment Richard. I’ll take that into consideration.
Awesome video as always mate. 👍👍 It looks like that it was a great show. I'm going to the Diamond Creek train show this weekend are you going?
You got lots a great footage! Perfect for inspiration and ideas on my own layout 😁
Thanks mate. That's one of the things I like about exhibitions you can get inspiration for your own layout at home.
Great video mate.
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed it.
looks like a great out Nicholas. i do love exhibitions....and thank you for sharing Sandown...take care Tony.
Thanks Tony. Exhibitions are one of my favourite things to attend. Take care.
Good review I would like to know what is the length of the train could you let me know
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed the review. As for the length of the locomotive its 25cm from coupler to coupler or 23.3cm from pilot to pilot. Hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching.
ive watched a lot of these videos about the open days. and none of the videos showed much of what is the highlight for me. it was that thing to the left of screen at 14:08. it looks like one of the old 2 or 3 axle pre1880's suburban cars that the vr turned into works site vans. they used to be everywhere, in fact there was one at the railyard near where i grew up. ive seen it written that there is one of the old giant s class tenders at the workshops. it should be prominently displayed, in my opinion.
Yeah the carriage that you are talking about is a work mans sleeper carriage. There are only a few left in preservation.
@@NicholassTrainChannel, i imagine youve seen the veteran train? i think they got them out for the last open days. are they doing it up or just keeping it under cover? i got a ride in them over 50 years ago. there was some centenary or something so nana (nana used to do the catering for special events at flinders st station for about 40 or 50 years and got a room there named after her) took her 2 favourite grandkids to spencer st station where we got a ride in the cars for just the length of the platform and back again. i spent a lot of time on this internet thingo trying to find out about what wikipedia calls the vr's best kept secret.
