Hey guys, I'm Amanda, a small animal veterinarian and recent graduate from the Ontario Veterinary College. This channel is all about my journey of becoming a vet! I'm currently sharing the ups and downs of new grad life - welcome to the family! 🩺
Have you found any regret/burnout/compassion fatigue? I'm working as a tech assistant rn at a vet ER while working on finishing my undergrad, and i feel quite fearful I guess? Some of the doctor and techs I work with seem to be so unhappy, and I constantly see posts on reddit and social media about burnout, the pay, and people leavivng the field, and it makes it hard to want to even work as an assistant at times. After getting a bad cat bite this weekend and seeing how differently a human ER works in comparison, I wonder if the risk is worth it and if I am going in the right direction...

How long did it take you to feel comfortable to work by yourself? (Like one doctor Saturdays)
@yourvetamanda7 күн бұрын
My situation was a little different where the initial plan was I was going to have another vet with me until I felt comfortable. We ended up being short staffed so I kinda got thrown into Saturdays on my own after 2ish months but it ended up working out fine! I probably would have kept a vet with me for a lot longer, more so as a lack of confidence thing, but have to just bite the bullet and get through a shift on my own made me realize that I was actually more comfortable than I realized. I always had (and still do to this day) have my mentor on speed dial that I can call if I ever get stuck when I'm by myself which made the whole thing more comfortable as well!
@a.laz87 күн бұрын
@@yourvetamanda Tomorrow is literally day 4 of being a vet for me lol. But they mentioned starting solo Saturdays in September with one hour appts and my mentor on speed dial. It sounds so scary 🥹 but at the same time it might help if they push me to fly a little 😁.
