Is there a list of companies that come for the career fair at GHC? Is the list available on the website after we buy tickets or is there a way to find out which companies would be participating before?

Hello Lucy! You videos have always been so helpful! I’m admitted to northwestern as a transfer student this year and also want to study CS. Could you please talk about your experience with clubs at Northwestern? Thank you!
Congratulations!!!🥳🥳🥳 I’m so glad my videos have been helpful to you! I’ve had a good experience with clubs. I’ve joined some more for the community and others more for career or skill growth and all of them have been a good experience! I’d say that NU clubs are not as competitive as Cornell clubs in terms of acceptance rate which I think is nice because more people can join. If you want to see which clubs I’ve been a part of, you can check out my LinkedIn!
Hey Lucy. When did you apply for this event? And how? Since I am not seeing any postings about the event online right now? I'd b grateful for your response.
I did not apply. I was invited.
@@lucywbeck Gotcha. Were you connected with any of the event coordinators beforehand? Or was it entirely random?
@@yugpatel5010 No. It seemed random but idk if they had some way of choosing behind the scenes.
@@lucywbeck I see. Did they reach out to you on LinkedIn. One of my friends got reached out via Handshake.

I'm in the exact same situation as you, currently a freshman at umich doing mechanical engineering and wondering if i should commit to NU. I'm writing this 12 hours before my deposit deadline so I've obviously been debating this for a long time and writing this in some random youtuber's comment section this late into the process is obviously really stupid. I hate having to make hard decisions and I have procrastinated til now to avoid dealing with the problem. To be honest my main reasons for choosing to transfer to NU are 1) it was my dream school in HS 2) it's probably more prestigious for undergrad and 3) its location and proximity to chicago are a lot better than that of umich. I'm not completely set on working as an engineer after I graduate so I'm thinking the undergraduate overall ranking matters more here than overall mechanical-engineering-specific rankings. I also felt like whole greek life/partying/athletics scene at umich is too obnoxious/pervasive for me and not really that fun. My biggest fear about transferring is that I'll be taking a huge, unnecessary risk. My time at umich wasn't the best but it was certainly decent - i've made quite some friends, had a few great profs, and a lot of memories that i'll never forget, and there isn't anything about the university that's a complete dealbreaker at all. what if I end up transferring and I don't find a good friend group or I mess up my GPA? There's also the fact that umich is ranked slighly higher above NU for engineering. moreover I recently visited evanston and found that the vibe, in general, was less friendly, and perhaps that's a function of NU being more exclusive/elitist than Umich - i felt that people at umich were noticeably more accepting/kind/chill/friendlier. My decision is really emotionally based, I think. My gut tells me to go to northwestern because it's my dream school - because of the pretty campus and the closeness to a city (actually something fun to do instead of partying at the same frats over and over again!). when I got into northwestern I was grinning like a dumbass the whole day. when I got into michigan last year i didn't even smile. but rationally/logically there doesn't seem to be much solid basis for a transfer. I know you're probably not gonna reply before I make my decision, but regardless... any advice?
Hey omg I’m so sorry I didn’t answer this in time for your decision. I just want to say that whatever decision you made, I’m sure it was the right one. And you might not realize it right away (there were many times I questioned my decision to transfer) but as a senior about to graduate in 2 weeks, I’m fully confident I made the right decision. For context, I used to be the most indecisive person I knew (I would always question my decisions even months after I made them). And I think over time, I realized that going through life being super indecisive-especially after the decision is made-is torture and just isn’t worth it. I’ve personally been trying to live in the moment more and focus on whatever is important to me. And I truly believe that things will fall into place. Paragraph 2: In terms of prestige and job placement, I think both schools have a high enough ranking that it won’t make a big difference. I will say that I think NU has a good balance of Greek life/partying/athletics (I didn’t participate in that stuff very often and I never felt left out bc there’s a decent amount of students who do and don’t). Paragraph 3: If you make an effort to make friends and get a good GPA, I’m sure you’ll find these things at NU. Tbh I think we have grade inflation or at least we definitely don’t have grade deflation. Also, my experience is that most people at NU are pretty friendly. I don’t think we have a lot of that elitest bs going on although it exists among some individuals. Paragraph 4: My decision to transfer wasn’t very logical in most people’s point of view but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t have transferred. Just do what’s best for you. I hope the above helps! Congrats either way! Getting into both schools is a big accomplishment!! Let me know what you decided too!!
This video and many others that you've made are very helpful for admitted and incoming transfer students like myself. Thanks for making these videos!
Thank you for saying that! It really means a lot to know that my videos are helping others!!
Hi. Lucy. I am a cs student, but I have no tech experience, and I rarely join some clubs because I am kind of introverted. I will create some projects. Do you think it is enough to apply for an internship?
Anything is enough to apply to an internship! It’s better to apply than not apply at all! Good luck!!
Question, if freshman who were accepted decline the offer, does it then open up space for transfers?
I don’t know exactly how it works. But I know the university has a certain number of spots they want to fill for freshman and a separate number of spots they want to fill for transfers. Therefore I think what you’re asking is unlikely.
@@lucywbeck thank you for your insight

Is this the university's dorm/hostel?
No this is an off campus apartment

Are those ventilation conduits running through your dorm room???
Yes in my apartment. Why do you ask?
You have a good attitude about facing something either right or wrong! Btw, my girl is considering to transfer from Tufts to another school right now. Up to now she got into Umich and waiting for Columbia and Cornell. Do you think she should go somewhere or just stay in Tufts?
Hi thank you for saying that! I would consider how happy she is at Tufts and whether or not Tufts can provide the resources she needs to reach her academic/career goals. If neither of those are met, then I’d strongly consider transferring. Good luck to her!
@@lucywbeck Compare with Tufts and Umich, which one you do prefer?
@@lindaschultz1707 Both are great schools. Tufts is generally more prestigious and it’s a private school which has its certain benefits. Umich engineering is very well renowned especially its cs department and has bigger campus/student population so more diversity. It’s hard to judge without knowing the major of study and other priorities of the individual.
My daughter is deciding between NU and UCBerkeley. She likes both schools maybe NU more. Any suggestions are welcome.
I’d say it depends on what major she wants to study and the cost difference between the two schools.

i got a columbia uni likely letter, and i’m so confused what that meant. like idk if it’s guarantee admissions or not😭

Hi Lucy my daughter is applying to Northwestern as a transfery she is at different University as a Premed Freshman she sent email for interview but they said no interview for transfer students, she thought she would explain why she wants to transfer how can we reach you?
Hi, I believe it is true that there are no interviews for transfer students. I think the best way to explain why she wants to transfer is in her why transfer essay. Good luck to your daughter! I hope she gets in!
@@lucywbeckDo you recommend to write a separate essay why NWU transfer
@@AG-um4iz the why northwestern essay should already be a part of the application.
@@lucywbeck Thanks Lucy, do you have time to review the essays my daughter s essays are ready, we dont mind paying fees for your service
Hi! I recently watched your video on your Northwestern transfer essay. I had a question about this years prompt about background/community and how that would lead to my engagement on campus. I feel like I don’t really have anything very interesting in my background so I don’t know what I should say. How would you approach this? Thank you!
Hi I would try to think of any identity, skill, or experience that you are passionate about. Then go on the university’s website and try to find clubs or on campus activities that align with what you are passionate about. Then try to relate the clubs to your passion and how you would engage with those clubs on campus! Good luck!
hi, for the common app essay is it fine if we reuse the same essay we use for our freshman application if my essay is about an activity i did during the summer between my junior and senior year. I was accepted to most of my schools such as Northeastern and NYU but regret not applying to the schools that I genuinely wanted to try for but felt like I couldn’t get in. I do think my common app essay is one of my strongest essay for my app so I want to reuse it but I heard that you shouldn’t reuse it because you’re a different person now that you’re in college. Also I heard that some schools don’t even read the common app essay for transfer students like Columbia so that could hurt my chances which I am concern about. Thank you!
Hi thanks for reaching out! I’ll start off by saying that I reused my common app from my freshman application and I still got accepted to NU as a transfer student. However, it isn’t obvious that I wrote it in high school. I’d suggest using your common app essay if you’re pressed for time and if you believe it is strong. However, consider writing about a stronger more recent topic if you can think of one. Good luck!!
Great channel and great content definitely going to be a big channel moving forward!!!!!!

I got an interview from Princeton and the interviewer told me I would know my admission result in early march, may I know is it a hint for something positive or what is it?
I would say that’s positive because Princeton usually doesn’t really decisions until late March!
@@lucywbeck thank you! May I know is what the interviewer said reliable? Sorry I know this is probably not a good question but I am super stressed right now
@@douglashwang22 I don’t think the interviewer has much control over when you get your admission result at any university. When I got the likely call from Cornell, I was feeling super anxious and wanted to know what it meant, but all that worry didn’t help, so don’t be like me! I know it’s hard but you only have a month to go!
@@lucywbeck sorry for asking too many questions lol but yesterday Cornell send me an email on alumni admissions ambassador meeting in the coming early march and I saw some TikTok that interview in early march is a good sign that they are considering you, is that true?
@@douglashwang22 hi there’s no such thing as asking too many questions! I think that receiving an interview is definitely a good sign. I had an interview before I was accepted to Cornell!
hi Lucy! thank you so much for creating such a helpful video, I am preparing to transfer and your videos are a huge help to me!!!! I was wondering if u applied to northwestern only. Also, in the "experiences" section of the common app, unlike the first-year common app which had the limit of 10 activities, transfer common app had no limit on the number of experiences to submit. As it is a transfer, combining from high school to university activities, it sum up to quite a lot(20-30 for me). I was wondering how many "experiences" you listed for the transfer app!!
Hi! I’m so glad they’re helpful to you! I applied to northwestern only and I think I had around 15 activities for both high school and college. Good luck!!
@@lucywbeck thanks so much! Is it that you tried to list only the most essential activities?( haha for me i have multiple tiny ones😅 debating whether it is the best to list all, or just the most important ones!)

Can you please do a video of a day in my life at Northwestern and can you do a video of you in Chicago? Also can you a video on how you learned how to code and why you like computer science?
Hello I have posted a couple day in my life at northwestern videos on my channel!!
Very impressive essay. Aside from SAT scores could it be that your GPA and AP scores also impressed Cornell? It seems that AP scores are more impressive than SAT. What do you think?
College admissions are wholistic. I don’t believe that AP scores are more impressive than SAT or vice versa. My AP scores were probably below average for Cornell as well. I had one 5 and two 4s which I submitted and a few 3s which I didn’t submit.
