That lady from the church probably saved at least a dozen lives. The captain and crew were to busy to give safety instructions. So she did instead (albeit in a blunt and DIY way.) And all of them at least loosening those life jackets for flotation saved lives. If those things had still been fastened, I'd bet several people either wouldn't have made it to the top, or wouldn't have lasted long enough to be rescued. That lady from the church is a goddamn hero.

Thank you for your research and video. Thank you for being fair in your reporting !! I thought it was strange that a captain with so much experience would sink...but your commentary explained that. I always want to hear what the NTSB has to say!.

Huh, I really thought this wreck was caused by the cargo shifting. I guess it's because that's what the news channels at the time were speculating, and there was no reason for them to report on the actual cause when the report came out two years later and the wreck was no longer exciting news.

While this video focuses on the tragic loss of life at sea, it would have been interesting to hear a comment about the fact that to this day there is a nuclear reactor lying at the bottom of the ocean...

Why did all of these vessels show up only to circle around a sinking ship with children on board to do nothing to help with search and rescue😮 why??? I can't imagine how horrible for parents to have to go through this, again question is why😮??

Even in a small twin engine helicopter, I legally had to calculate my center of gravity beside every takeoff and ensure it would still be within limits at landing weight.

Coast Guard Veteran here... When my Brother's tell you this was the worse weather they had encountered... that pretty much say's it all. The HH-60 crew with survivors onboard, probably only made it back by pure luck, the grace of God, being very smart, and highly trained. They would tell you as I would... it wasn't the success of the mission... The thing that remains the most poignant....is the loss. Men will go down to the sea, Mother Nature still rules all.

No shortage of heroism by the crew members and rescue teams in the face of danger. It's the complacency during the calm that sows the seeds of disaster, together with the profit-driven corporate decision making. As is always the case, safety procedures that help today's crews navigate dangerous seas safely are written in blood. The video was quite detailed and informative again, and entertaining and touching as well, thank you.

we barely get land drilling. ocean drilling is still so much worse. you think the water might stop the fire. but it doesnt. on land you can run if lucky. on a rig. you risk two equal horrid ends. burn. or drown. may rah have mercy on these souls

I used to live in Philly, I always hated these stupid boats, my cousin visited and she wanted to go on one of these, I caved and we went on one - I hated it, was nervous the whole time. That was July 6th, the day before this incident occurred. Crazy.

I have watched your video several times. It's mesmerizing & outstanding. It never seems to get old. Having lived in SE Florida my entire adult life; I can't understand this ship's captain being so reckless and/or indifferent with respect to a very dangerous hurricane. Obviously he didn't care about the lives of his crew, but one would expect him to care about his own. No job is worth your life; nor anyone else's either.

The fact that 2 foreign nations offered helped, and the government literally declined the offer.. it just sickens me... The U.S Navy and The Japanese Coast Guards were literally so prepared to help with the recuse especially with a wide open window of time to recuse all of them. So Furious.... To the point Civilians had to do the recuse themselves is just so embarrassing and shame to the government!
