At Home Tactical Defense

Welcome to, “At Home Tactical Defense”! My name is Sifu Toby Ericksen. We are a full service martial arts school offering Kajukenbo, Tai Chi, Judo, and Jiu Jitsu.

My past includes a state wrestling championship in 1976, Reserve Deputy Sheriff, Master Class USPSA in Limited, state championships in USPSA and IDPA Limited division, multi state champion in speed steel competition, 5th degree Black Sash in Kajukenbo Tum Pai, cross trained in Judo and Jiu Jitsu, with a love for all things related to self defense. I owned a gun smithing shop for 20 years, and built firearms from single shot to full auto OA93’s for civilians and law enforcement.

In 2016 my world was upended when I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which has led me down a path much different from what I had imagined. Today, I am working on some new endeavors to help maintain body, mind, and spirit.

Please check out my service dog at kzread.info

    I consider myself kinda weak so i got the COC S last week thinkg it would work my way up and it was way to easy. So same day i got it i ordered a COC T thinking it would be hard and that one was easy too. I got 3 sets of 10 reps touching the ends each close right out of the package. Im going to order a no. 1 & 2 in a week or or so. I pretty confident I will be able to close a 1 right out of the package. I based my choice off of captain of crush video demoing them saying strong guys start with the trainer, most guys that lift weights can't close a 1 ect. So i went 1 size up to the S thinking if I can't do it i would just get the easiest one and id have one to work up too.

    Nice video. I've got two of the heavy grippers myself, the 150 and the 200lbs. Then I ordered another set of golden grippers from temu, starting at 250lbs. They are only slightly wider than the heavy grippers, and don't appear to be as wide as the CoC grippers. Haven't been able to close any of them so far. This is my first time hearing that CoC is more difficult to close than CoC, though I knew CoC was the golden standard and I was wondering how they compared. Good to know the 250lbs is roughly equivalent to CoC nr2. I think the CoC grippers are overpriced. The heavy grippers were maybe half the price of CoC, and the golden grippers were a total bargain for what is essentially the same product. Just order thicker coils!

    As a person learns to strike harder, there comes a point where the knuckles and wrists are the weak link. It’s a back and forth chase between knuckle condition, wrist strength, the ability to strike harder, back and forth as a person trains. Conditioning the knuckles assures that a person can hit with every ounce of power they can deliver, with reduced risk to the martial artist, without having to wrap the wrists.

    If you wanted to keep the metal striking surface, they do make deadblow ball peen hammers- harbor freight has a few different weights- the lightest being 16oz. You might be able to find them online cheaper than $40

    Thank you. I wanted the plastic as it is plenty hard, and easier to shape the corners for missed strikes. One of the problems I was running into with the old one was the speed I needed to generate a sufficient hit was so high that misses were getting dangerous; I took myself down a few times. I’m sure the HF hammers would be every bit as good for getting the job done.

    what he's doing is conditioning his knuckles that's why they look the way they do. he can punch a lot of shit that would normally fuck your hand up that is why you do this. so when you really hit someone its like a fucking brick.

  • @AtHomeTacticalDefense
    @AtHomeTacticalDefense16 күн бұрын

    At a certain point in training a person can learn to generate way more power than their knuckles and wrists can handle (why boxers wrap their wrists). Conditioning strengthens the knuckles, hands, wrists, and forearms to where full power strikes can be delivered with no damage to the practitioner. The greatest tool God gave our brains is our hands, and everyone knows how important it is to keep tools sharp and ready.

    When you get to closing high weights at high reps, you’ll notice the difference without having to look. The gripper will want to twist out of your hand, instead of into it. Look between the top of the grip and the first coil. One side will be slightly more straight.

    Grippers are optimised for right hands. Ironmind make left-hand versions but they dont come in .5 increments. I just got the number 2 in the post this week and I closed it no problem with my right. With my left though, I needed about 3mm to close it. I'm pretty sure they are equal in strength because of the way gripper coils are positioned for right hands but I think i'll get the left-hand version of the #2 to make sure and train each hand equally. By the way, you should oil your coils. Thanks for the vid.
